Chapter 30 - Chapter 30: The Professors

Ron covered his face and screamed: "You guys killed a troll?!"

Harry looked at everyone and saw that no one seemed to be acknowledging Ron, so he said: "No, Hermione knocked out the troll." After a pause, he added unconsciously, "With the Levitation Charm."

The reason for the earlier argument in the Charms classroom was Hermione trying to teach Ron how to properly use the Levitation Charm, which only made Ron more frustrated due to her "lecturing" tone.

"—Hermione?" Ron was clearly stunned and mumbled, "How—how is that possible? It's a troll!"

Hermione huffed and gripped her wand, she was both excited and terrified as she stared at the motionless creature on the ground as if something within her had awakened.

Padma peeked out from behind Wade and asked quietly, "Is the troll dead?"

"No." Wade looked at the troll's slowly rising and falling chest and said, "It's just unconscious."

"Oh—well, that's a relief." Padma patted her chest.

Suddenly, a flurry of footsteps approached—

Professor McGonagall was the first to arrive and her face was as white as a sheet; following her was Professor Snape with his black robes billowing behind him;

Then came Professor Flitwick, who, despite his small size, ran very fast but still didn't catch up with the first two.

Lastly, Professor Quirrell, upon seeing the troll's large, calloused feet, immediately clutched his chest and whimpered as if he might faint.

Snape gave a quick glance at Harry, who stood dumbfounded, then bent down to examine the troll. Professor Flitwick, with his characteristic high-pitched voice, exclaimed, "Oh, Merlin! Children, are you all right?"

"We're fine, Professor," Michael said excitedly. "Except for almost being sick from the troll's stench."

Professor Flitwick patted his arm happily and exclaimed, "Well done! First-years—defeated a troll! I dare say not many people could do that! How did you manage to defeat this big fellow?"

"Hahaha, it was a team effort," Michael said, trying to keep his grin under control and sounding as humble and serious as he could. "Potter came out to distract it—"

Snape immediately fixed Harry with an intense stare, making Harry quickly lower his head, wishing Michael had never mentioned him. Ron, on the other hand, looked at Harry with envy.

"We all used Avis to distract it, and then Wade used a spell—"

Michael forgot what it was and turned to look at Wade.

"Glisseo," Wade said.

"Yes—Glisseo, which made the troll fall," Michael continued. "And in the end, Hermione used the Levitation Charm to knock it out."

Professor Flitwick clapped in admiration. "Brilliant teamwork! Truly marvelous! Achieving such remarkable results with simple spells. I'm going to award each of you five points!"

"Filius!" Professor McGonagall's loud, severe tone made even the previously exuberant Flitwick flinch. He fell silent and stepped aside.

The witch in green scanned each student with a cold gaze. Every student who met her eyes involuntarily lowered their heads, including Wade.

"Trolls are extremely dangerous creatures. Countless adult wizards have been killed by trolls! The moment you encountered it, you should have immediately fled and sought help from a professor! You were lucky this time; you weren't killed by it! —Miss Granger!"

Hermione flinched.

Professor McGonagall, looking at the top of Hermione's brown head, asked, "I remember you took the afternoon off because you were feeling unwell. Why are you here now?"

"I…" Hermione, who probably had never lied to a teacher before, was flustered and stammered, "I thought—I read about trolls in a book, I thought—"

Wade placed a hand on the girl's shoulder and pushed her aside—is this silly girl really going to say she thought she could handle a troll on her own? That excuse is so ridiculous that even the troll won't believe it.

Not only that, but what if someone blamed them for the troll entering the castle? Don't think it can't happen—Wade remembered from the books that Harry had been misunderstood by classmates more than once.

"She felt better by the evening and didn't want to miss the feast. We were planning to go to the Great Hall together," Wade said calmly.

"On our way here, Hermione and Padma went to the bathroom, and Michael and I waited. When we left, we encountered the troll.

We should have fled immediately, but it happened so suddenly that everyone was stunned and didn't react in time. Fortunately, Harry drew the troll's attention away and warned us."

The professors turned their gaze to Harry again. The boy's face was flushed, and he felt he didn't deserve such high praise.

Michael, thinking for a moment, glanced at Wade and understood something. He added, "Yes, he threw a bucket at the troll's head and shouted at us to run—it was really brave."

Professor Snape: "—A bucket?"

Harry, staring at the floor, felt like he was about to be executed by Snape's gaze—he now suspected that these two Ravenclaws were praising him so enthusiastically just to divert the professors' attention.

"So what about you, Mr. Weasley?" Professor McGonagall turned to Ron. "Why didn't you go back to your dormitory as you were supposed to?"

Ron, who had been thinking about how he should have joined Harry, thus becoming the hero who saved everyone and impressing the haughty Hermione, was now at a loss for words when McGonagall called him out.

McGonagall's gaze grew sharper.

Harry gathered his courage to stand up for his friend, saying, "Ron was just trying to warn us about the troll—"

"Yes, we all heard it!" Professor Snape suddenly sneered and sarcastically said, "Shouting in the corridor as if afraid the troll wouldn't notice him—surely your books must have mentioned that trolls have heightened hearing?

Oh—perhaps Mr. Weasley's textbook has never been opened? Just like our savior—Harry Potter—attracting the troll's attention with a bucket—ha, a bucket?! I do hope you haven't forgotten that you're a wizard!"

The Gryffindor duo's ears turned red with embarrassment and anger.

Michael silently gave Wade a thumbs-up in his mind—if not for elevating Harry Potter, they might have been the ones facing such ridicule.

Little did he know that Snape's obsession with Harry was unshakeable and lifelong. Even if there were a thousand people here, Snape would only see Harry Potter.

With Snape speaking up, it seemed to ease Professor McGonagall's anger. She pondered and said:

"Since there were mitigating circumstances, I won't deduct any additional points from you. I'll inform Professor Dumbledore about this incident.

Now, you all should hurry back to your common room—the students are enjoying the Halloween feast in their houses!"

The group hurriedly left, and once out of the professors' sight, someone suddenly chuckled, followed by the others laughing as well.
