"Hm?" Fred looked puzzled for a moment. "Why would we be looking at Ron's dormitory? Mum didn't tell us to tuck him in at night!"
"Do you know who Peter Pettigrew is?" Wade asked again.
George thought for a moment and then asked, "Who's that?"
"Follow me," Wade said.
They moved to an empty classroom, where Wade spread out the Marauder's Map. "You can take a look for yourselves."
The twins exchanged a glance, and George tapped the parchment with his wand and said, "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good!"
The map's contents unfolded layer by layer, and the Weasleys twins focused directly on the Gryffindor common room and carefully studied the tiny letters.
This was a section they normally wouldn't have paid much attention to.
Before long, they found their younger siblings—Ron and Ginny were both in the common room, along with a few other familiar names.
Then they looked at the dormitory.
Neville Longbottom was in the dorm, as was… Peter Pettigrew.
Fred frowned and asked, "Who's this guy? Why is he in Ron's dorm?"
"He's not just in Ron's dorm," Wade added. "At night, their two dots are very close together. I believe he's actually on Ron's bed."
The twins' eyes widened as they stared at each other, and they were speechless for a long moment.
"Peter Pettigrew… that sounds like a man's name?" George said with a pale face.
"Haha… did little Ronnie get himself a boyfriend?" Fred said weakly.
The two brothers looked at each other, and they were almost unable to make their usual jokes.
Of course, they didn't really believe that their little brother had a boyfriend no one knew about, who had been sleeping in the same bed with him every night, completely unnoticed.
But if they dismissed that absurd possibility… then the truth was even more terrifying.
"Let's go see for ourselves!"
Fred made a quick decision.
He glanced at the map again, took a deep breath, and headed towards the Gryffindor Tower.
"Wait." Wade called them back and handed over a vial. "Draught of Living Death… we don't know what that guy's capabilities are, so it's best to be cautious."
George took the vial, gripped it tightly, and nodded silently.
The common rooms of each House did not welcome students from other Houses. Wade waited near the entrance to the Gryffindor common room and monitored the situation on the Marauder's Map.
Unlike the Ravenclaw knocker that required a question to be answered, Gryffindor's entrance was guarded by a portrait of the Fat Lady.
She was quite tipsy, and, hearing Fred say the password, she swung open to let the two inside.
The common room was bustling with students.
Lee Jordan greeted the Weasley twins warmly, but noticed they only waved at him briefly and looked unusually preoccupied.
"What's with them?" Lee Jordan asked a friend nearby.
"Maybe they've caught a cold?" a fellow student replied casually. "Look, their ears are still smoking!"
Ron was deeply engrossed in a game of wizard chess with his roommate Dean, oblivious to anyone entering the room.
As they climbed the stairs and found themselves alone, Fred whispered, "George, I feel like I've heard the name Peter Pettigrew somewhere before. Do you remember where?"
George frowned, thought for a moment, then shook his head. "Nope, doesn't ring any bells."
"Maybe it was a long time ago… I'm sure I've heard someone mention it," Fred said, looking grim.
"We'll ask him once we catch him," George replied.
They found Ron's dorm, and luckily, the door was unlocked. A gentle push, and it opened.
Neville was sitting on the carpet, polishing his wand. He looked up when he heard the door open and was stunned.
"Uh… did I go into the wrong dorm?" he asked as he looked around in confusion.
No, everything looked right—my bed, my dorm…
"Want to play a game of Battle Royale this afternoon, Neville?" Fred said casually as he scanned the room. "Invite Ron… are any of your other dorm mates around?"
"They're probably in the common room? Harry went to the library, I think…" Neville scratched his head, belatedly asking, "Did the rain stop?"
"It'll clear up this afternoon," George said absently.
Noticing that the twins weren't even glancing his way, but were instead closing in on Ron's bed from both sides, Neville added, "Ron's not here."
"Oh, no worries. We'll bring along his hero rat. Ron needs him, right?"
Fred, speaking absentmindedly, lifted Ron's tangled-up blanket.
A dirty sock fell to the floor.
Curled up in a small nest made from an old towel at the head of the bed was a scruffy gray rat, sleeping.
But as George reached out to grab it, the rat bolted. It stood on the bedpost and stared at them with beady black eyes.
Fred quickly scanned the bed, and besides this rat, there was no other creature—not even a stray insect.
A chill ran through him.
"Come on, Scabbers! We're taking you to the game field to help Ron restore his honor," Fred said in an overly cheerful tone.
George quietly uncorked the vial of Draught of Living Death behind his back.
The rat, Scabbers, sat dumbly on the bedpost, as if it didn't understand a word they were saying. Fred suddenly pointed his wand at it—
"Petrificus Totalus!" (Full Body-Bind Curse)
Bang!
The spell struck the wall as Scabbers leapt out of the way just in time. George quickly threw the Draught of Living Death, but he was a moment too late.
The crystal vial shattered with a "crack," and Neville, who was about to say something, caught a whiff of a strange smell.
"Grab it!" George yelled.
The rat shot out the door like lightning.
Neville, feeling dizzy, shook his head; by the time he came to his senses, the room was empty.
The Weasley twins pounded down the stairs, spells flying as they ran.
But the small rat was much more agile than they were, dodging each spell as it bolted directly into the common room.
Everyone stared at the Weasley twins in shock.
"Crack!"
A spell hit a vase on the cabinet by the wall, shattering it.
"Fred, George! You're breaking school rules!" Percy yelled angrily. "No spellcasting in the common room! I'm docking points!"
"Enough, just catch that rat!" Fred shouted.
"A rat?" Ron, seeing that his pet Scabbers was the one being chased by his brothers, asked in surprise, "What's wrong with Scabbers? Even if he chewed up some of your things, he's just a rat!"
He reached out to block his brothers, and just as someone opened the common room door, Scabbers shot through the opening with a squeak and escaped.
"Wait! Stop right there!"
The Weasley siblings who had turned the common room upside down bolted out the door, only to fall straight into a muddy pit.
Wade poured the Draught of Living Death into the unconscious rat's mouth and placed it in a glass jar sealed with a Unbreakable Charm. Watching the muddy, disheveled group, he sighed deeply.
Harry, who had just opened the common room door with the password, asked in confusion, "What happened here?"
