Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Shopping

Despite his frustration, Tao Yi managed to keep his temper in check, as he didn't have the courage to actually upset Zi Yue.

"Alright, Sister Yue, let's get going!" Tao Yi quickly finished his breakfast and stood leaning against the kitchen door, forcing a smile while showing his small white teeth.

"Okay." Zi Yue nodded and glanced at the entrance. "No women's shoes? Are you expecting me to wear your shoes?"

"...Well, there's really nothing I can do about it," Tao Yi sighed, silently calculating in his mind. It seemed today's expenses would include a pair of shoes.

Zi Yue snorted and walked toward the door. Tao Yi shook his head, thinking to himself, *Damn it! Why am I the unluckiest? And she still has the nerve to snort at me!*

But as he watched Zi Yue put on her shoes, he felt something was off, like he had forgotten something.

Sure enough, Zi Yue turned around, and Tao Yi's head drooped again. "Sister Yue, are you doing this on purpose? Do you have a vendetta against bras?"

Zi Yue, still in the same short-sleeved shirt from last night, had not bothered to put on a bra.

"How could I wear something so filthy? Wearing your ragged clothes is already my limit!" Zi Yue retorted with a cold expression.

"...Then why didn't you take off the bra when I just got back last night?" Tao Yi muttered under his breath.

However, he seemed to forget that Zi Yue's hearing was far superior to that of an average person. Not even a second after Tao Yi's mumble, Zi Yue's voice, filled with murderous intent, echoed in his ears, "I could gouge out your eyes for that!"

Tao Yi's face fell, and he lowered his head again. Finally, he mustered the courage to speak in a serious tone: "I give up, Sister Yue. Let's not talk about last night, okay? Can we talk about the bra issue? Sister Yue, do you think all humans are as pure and kind-hearted as I am? Most of them are perverts! Pervs, I say! Sister Yue, you're so naturally beautiful! So stunning and unparalleled! A beauty like you... aren't you afraid of being ogled by those wolves?"

Tao Yi's demeanor was dead serious, almost as if he truly believed every word he just said about being pure and kind-hearted.

Zi Yue raised her eyebrows, clearly unimpressed. "So what? There's nothing important to see anyway."

*Nothing important to see? This girl is indeed fierce.*

"Besides, if they annoy me, I'll just kill them. Why make it so complicated?"

"K-Kill them?! Sister Yue, listen to me, we can't just kill people at will. We…" Tao Yi almost lost his mind upon hearing the word "kill."

Zi Yue, still with her indifferent expression, responded impatiently, "We what? Hurry up and put on your shoes!"

"Our world is not that simple, Sister Yue, let's just drop it. We… we have superheroes and Ultraman, and also… the Chinese Dragon Squad…"

"Just kidding, just kidding! Let's go, let's go…"

Once again, Tao Yi couldn't resist Zi Yue's murderous gaze.

Ten minutes later, Tao Yi and Zi Yue had arrived at the nearest bus stop. As expected, Zi Yue's presence on the street turned heads. She truly was beautiful.

With her extraordinary looks and alluring figure, she seemed like a celestial being created to captivate men.

Because of this, Tao Yi didn't feel flattered by the admiring glances of passersby. Instead, his head was pounding, his sweat pouring like a waterfall.

Standing in the midst of a crowded bus stop, Tao Yi was consumed by fear. Reflecting on the gazes from earlier and Zi Yue's previous words… No way! No way! We definitely can't take the bus!!

Without further hesitation, Tao Yi grabbed Zi Yue's hand and pulled her away. "Sister Yue, let's take a taxi!"

"Take a… taxi?! Why would we hit a vehicle?" Zi Yue was baffled by Tao Yi's behavior ever since they left the house. They had been waiting here for a long time, and when she asked why, he said, "Waiting for a bus." Now, he wanted to "hit" a car?

At that moment, a bus heading toward the city center mall pulled up in front of them.

Zi Yue pointed to the bus, "Hit this vehicle?"

"No, no, no. Let's go; I'll explain as we walk..." Realizing Zi Yue had misunderstood him, Tao Yi quickly grabbed her hand again and led her away from the crowded bus stop, fearing that someone might accidentally bump into her.

While running, Tao Yi was struck by the sensation of Zi Yue's hand. It was so soft and delicate, cold but surprisingly comfortable to the touch. More importantly, was he really holding the hand of the same Zi Yue who could effortlessly lift him out of a window with one hand? How was there no resistance at all?

Realizing this, Tao Yi quickly let go, catching a glimpse of Zi Yue's unusual expression.

They finally stopped, and before Tao Yi could explain, Zi Yue spoke first, "Tired of running or tired of holding hands?"

"Tired of running…"

Zi Yue smirked slyly, "So, not tired of holding hands, huh?"

"No, no! Just kidding, just kidding! Well, Sister Yue, actually…"

"Humph!" Zi Yue snorted coldly, her expression turning icy once again. She lowered her voice and said, "I completely understand what you mean, and I know what you're worried about. Don't overestimate your own intelligence. I'm not an idiot; I know better than to cause trouble for myself."

"…Sister Yue, you're indeed smart, I misunderstood," Tao Yi realized. Zi Yue wasn't as clueless as he thought; she would blend in with the crowd to avoid unnecessary trouble. The truth was simple—she didn't want to draw attention to herself in a world she didn't fully understand.

Reflecting on the morning's events, it seemed this girl was intentionally messing with him.

Maybe the issue just now was too trivial for Zi Yue. She suddenly remembered another question. "By the way, what do you mean by 'take a taxi'? I still don't get it."

Tao Yi felt like he needed divine intervention. How could this girl change her mood so quickly, like the weather?

"Take a taxi… it means riding a cab, a car that charges more than the bus," Tao Yi explained, pointing at a passing taxi. "I was worried the bus would be too crowded, and someone might accidentally annoy you, so I decided on a taxi."

Zi Yue gave a dismissive smile and casually replied, "Self-righteous."

But as she finished speaking, she seemed to recall that Tao Yi had mentioned buses were cheaper than taxis, so she turned to him with a look of intense disdain.

"Why are you looking at me like that? I can't help it, Sister Yue. You want me to buy your clothes, you're living in my house without paying rent. I'm just a student, and although I'm about to graduate, I don't even have a stable job yet..." Tao Yi complained, feeling unjustly scorned by Zi Yue.

"Humph! Don't act like you're not getting anything out of this! Have you forgotten who gave you the ability to feel no pain?" Zi Yue sneered.

"Is that even a benefit? Come on, who would want to live without pain…" Tao Yi started to retort but stopped when he saw the look in Zi Yue's eyes. He lost the courage and interest to argue, lowered his gaze to the ground, and reluctantly nodded. "Yes, yes, it's a benefit. Thank you, Sister Yue, for your gracious gift. I'm forever in your debt."

"Taxi," Zi Yue ordered coldly, her expression as icy as before.

Tao Yi remained silent.

Thus, in the end, they took a taxi. Even though the ride should have taken only eight minutes, the driver, for some reason, drove slowly, taking a full fifteen minutes to reach the mall.

As they entered the mall, lingering stares of admiration and desire followed them from every direction. Or more accurately, those stares never ceased.

Tao Yi lowered his head, pretending not to notice, but his heart was racing. Even though Zi Yue had assured him she wouldn't cause trouble, a woman's temper could be unpredictable.

So, he anxiously accompanied Zi Yue as she tried on clothes.

When shopping with Zheng Meixuan, he would always hear questions like, "Does this look good?" "Which is better, this one or that one?" "Help me decide! Don't just stand there!" Tao Yi thought today would be the easiest shopping trip of his life.

However, everything once again took an unexpected turn.

Although the girl this time wasn't Zheng Meixuan, Tao Yi still had to deal with those same questions.

"How about this? Does it look nice? Don't just stand there like a skeleton!" Zi Yue chose a black T-shirt with some English letters printed on it and a pair of gray skinny pants.

The sudden question startled Tao Yi.

He quickly looked at Zi Yue.

*Oh my god!* This was the only thought in his mind. She was breathtakingly perfect. Even though the clothes she wore were simple, without any luxury—some might even call them cheap—her beauty was undeniable.

It was precisely because of this that Tao Yi realized there were no ugly clothes in this world…

Her light yellow eyes, like gemstones, exuded a mysterious and enchanting glow; her dark purple hair, her snow-white skin—every inch was captivating.

To Tao Yi, Zi Yue looked like an angel who had fallen to Earth, ethereal and dreamlike…

He was so mesmerized that it took him a long time to react, "Uh… yes, really beautiful."

Zi Yue smiled faintly at Tao Yi, a smile so natural and adorable.

At that moment, Tao Yi felt that Zi Yue wasn't Zi Yue anymore. She was like an ordinary girl, except this girl had the most beautiful face in the world and the most endearing smile.

Of course, Tao Yi didn't have much time to enjoy this wonderful feeling before the saleswoman's words brought him back to reality: "Sir, your girlfriend is not only beautiful but has a great eye for clothes. Even I didn't expect these two pieces to look so good together, hehe."

The salesperson's flattery, with its double meaning, shocked Tao Yi. This wasn't a joke. If Zi Yue took offense at her words, the consequences could be dire! He quickly tried to explain, "Well, actually, I…"

"Thank you." But before he could say more, Zi Yue responded to the saleswoman and asked, "By the way, miss, are those shoes over there also from this store?"

As she spoke, Zi Yue glanced down at her feet. The shoes were Tao Yi's, and they looked like two boats on her feet.

Zi Yue gave Tao Yi a sidelong glance, then followed the saleswoman to look at shoes.

Tao Yi trembled, dumbfounded. What was going on? That ambiguous look… Could she be planning to use him to pay and then KO him afterward? No way, right? Was she giving him a little benefit before his demise?

With his mind spinning with all sorts of thoughts, Tao Yi accompanied Zi Yue to finish trying on shoes.

"Sister Yue… are you really not from our world?" Tao Yi finally couldn't hold back any longer.

Zi Yue gave Tao Yi a contemptuous look and whispered, "Humph, stop comparing yourself to me. I'm only trying to adapt to life in this world. Everything just now was learned from passing by other stores! I told you, I'm trying to act like a normal person!"

"Impressive…" Tao Yi could only muster these two words.

Truly impressive. Tao Yi could hardly imagine that if Zi Yue wasn't lying, her learning ability was truly that of a genius.

As Tao Yi was marveling, Zi Yue suddenly grabbed his arm with her soft hand, "Come over here!"

"What's wrong?!" Startled by Zi Yue's sudden move, Tao Yi turned his head, but by then, Zi Yue was already dragging him toward another store.

Tao Yi noticed the fire in Zi Yue's eyes as she stared at the clothes on the rack inside the store.

He raised an eyebrow in disbelief and looked at Zi Yue beside him, "Sister Yue! Are you crazy? You are a noble vampire, how can you stoop to the level of a human woman?! Please, no!!"

"Humph! Don't care! You pay!"
