Chapter 2 - Shadows of Terror

Raja Bersiong sat on his throne, his eyes gleaming with malice as he called upon the creatures of mystery in the dark depths of the realm. A thick feeling of anticipation filled the air as, with abilities strengthening, even the fabric of reality would bend to the dark king's whim.

First of them, the Naga sprang inside, writhing on the floor of the royal room, his serpentine figure full of ancient power. His gaze, seeming to pierce through the shadows, made even the bravest warriors shiver.

The Pontianak floated beside it, her ghostly body pulsed with malignant power though her wailing screams echoed around the chamber to make the hairs on the back of the soldiers' necks stand on end.

The Hantu Raya loomed afar, his dark and malevolent shadow seemingly wrenching the life energies from the air. Its great wings pounded the air with whirlwinds of dust and debris that blinded and confused the warriors.

The magic forces of the Orang Bunian flashed around the room, teeming with vigor as they mumbled something terrible in the ear of the dark monarch. The eyes shone bright with a strange life, making the soldiers feel they stared into an abyss.

The Toyol capered and danced around, his malicious energy filling the air with mayhem and disorder. His cackling laughter sent cold shivers running down the spines of even the most seasoned warriors.

The Jembatan remained in front of the windows, his ghostly form an omen of death and despair. It seemed to siphon the substance out of the jungle inside the throne room as Raja Bersiong's powers began to intensify with the absorption of energy from these mystical creatures.

"My dear friends," Raja Bersiong sang an ode to the creatures, replete with malice. "I have an assignment for you wherein I would wish you to bring chaos and destruction to the lands of Malacca. Let the people cower in fear at every mention of my name, let the land burn, and let its people suffer."

As they exited, there shone evil light in the beasts' eyes, which melted into darkness to commit terror in the areas of Malacca.

The people in Malacca lived in perpetual fear, and their every move was watched and controlled by the heinous creatures of Raja Bersiong. It was a living hell for which there was no reprieve since darkness had cast upon them its spell.

With nightfall, each word of strange events and unexplained occurrences spread to the furthest reaches of the land. The people of Malacca were scared to their wits and knew that they would not be able to stand against this kind's evil powers.

The undaunted and firm soldiers of the Empire Malacca joined in a crusade to save their empire from constant attack by the dark king's armies. Captain Hashim stood tall with his sword high.

"We will not back down!" he shouted, his battle cry carrying over the battlefield as he surged forward to confront the enemy. "We are going to fight to the last man for our homeland, for our families, and for our way of life!"

The Naga lanced down constructions and bulwarks like a flash of lightning. "HSSSS!" it snarled, its war cry striking in the troops' spines.

Lieutenant Amir's teeth were clenched as his gaze nailed the Naga. "We have crossed snakes before, never as lethal as you! You may hold ancient powers, but we are the heartbeat of the Malacca Empire!

And then it swooped down upon them, its ghostly shape inspiring in the soldiers the eerie aura of a Pontianak, releasing its torrent of wailing screams down their spines-sending even shivers to the most valiant of warriors. "WAAAHHH!" it exclaimed, its war scream shattering the night air.

Private Johan stumbled backward, his eyes wide with horror. "What magic is this?" "How can we fight against spirits?" Captain Hashim clapped a soothing hand onto Johan's shoulder. "We may be unable to see our adversaries, but we certainly sense their presence. "We'll fight with our hearts, not our swords!

The battle was fierce; the soldiers of the Malacca Empire fought with all strength and might against monstrous creatures of the dark king. Outnumbered and outmatched, yet they refused to give up because their strong will to defend their kingdom and people kept them going.

As night wore on, the number of those who fell increased, and the lines of the empire began to give way. Captain Hashim knew he had to fall back and regroup, yet in his heart, he knew they could never give up. The fate of the Malacca Empire hung in the balance, and he was bent on saving it.

"We must send a delegation to Sultan Mansur Shah." cried Captain Hashim, his voice soaring above the din of fighting. "We cannot take it up ourselves. We must seek the advice as well as assistance of the Sultan."

Lieutenant Amir nodded. "I'll assemble a few men I can count on. We go now." Captain Hashim nodded.

"Take artillery and a few men. We shall have to be prepared to defend ourselves along the road." Lieutenant Amir gave a salute. "I will attend to it, Captain. We shall leave at dawn."

The Malacca Empire warriors attended to their wounded and mourned their dead, as further into the night the city lay in ruin, with burnt buildings and terror-stricken citizens.

Captain Hashim stood atop the city walls, his eyes riveted to the forces of the dark king, which only remained camped outside the city gates.

He knew the empire was in grave peril, and the Sultan's aid was their very last hope. "We shall survive," he muttered under his breath, gritting his teeth firmly.

"We must work out how to fight them offensively and combine our powers to defeat these demonical horrid monsters and save our empire from certain annihilation."

Gazing down into that chasm, a chilling cognition came to him-the Malacca Empire was staring into the abyss of complete destruction, so very close to collapse. But Captain Hashim did not raise the white flag.

In a voice clear across the battlefield, he exhorted his men: "We will not falter! We will not fail! We will defend our empire to the death! The soldiers cheered as spirits brightened because of the bravery of their captain.

They knew that they were in for the fight of their lives but were ready to go. Whatever horrors lay ahead, they would stand firm against those forces of darkness. There was, therefore, a ferocious battle in which soldiers of the Malacca Empire were fighting with all their might against monstrous creatures serving under the dark king.

The outcome was not sure, but one thing was definitely sure: only one would emerge as a victor. The fate of the Malacca Empire lay in the balance, while the soldiers were determined to save it.
