Chapter 1 - 1 ~ The end

Cattleya had just been made the sales manager of her department only after three years of working there. It was more or less a miracle because there had been other people there before her. Everybody seemed happy for her and celebrated her. Her best friend suggested they throw a party on Sunday night and that was where she was headed to. The moment she stepped outside, it had began to piur down heavily.

"Not today." She whined stomping her feet. Running back to get another umbrella from her house, she found out she had locked her keys inside mistakenly.

"Everything is so against me today!" She yelled as she kicked the door out of frustration. Entering the rain was her only option since she had been anticipating the party for a while. By the time she got to the venue, her body had been soaked from the heavy downpour. She could barely see because of how beaten she was. Everybody in the bar all turned to look at her. Flushed, she adjusted her glasses and looked down.

"Oh my," Her best friend, Skylar, approached her with an amused smile.

"Look at you, all late and drenched."

"Sorry, Sky. There were situations I couldn't get out of on time." She couldn't bring herself to tell her friend that she had locked her keys inside. It would only make her appear worse in front of everyone. She already seemed tardy enough at work.

"It's fine. Come on, go change." Skylar handed a clean pair of clothes to her. After changing, Cat felt better and happy that she had a friend like Skylar. They partied until it was half past nine. The girls wanted it to continue but Cat insisted she wanted to go home and prepare for work the next day.

"Before you go," Skylar raised her index finger as though she had just remembered something.

"We've got something special for you." She stood up and happily skipped to the bartender, who handed over an expensive looking drink to her. Carefully, Skylar took the drink and handed it over to Cat.

"As loyal subordinates, we wanted you to have this. Best drink in the house." She squealed and took her seat. Cat adjusted her glasses, looking skeptically at the drink. It was already open and she knew better than to take things that had already been opened.

"Thanks you all but I think I'll pass." She smiled nervously and wanted to take her leave but Skylar stopped her.

"Come on Cat, do you really want our money to go to waste?" Skylar batted her long lashes and pouted her lips.

"Nobody is trying to hurt you if that's what you think. As our sales manager, we just wanted to treat you to something very nice." She smiled sweetly, raising the glass to Cat's lips.

"Just one sip." Cat obliged.

After taking a sip, she waved goodbye to the girls and started heading home. Her mind was still on her keys which she had accidentally locked inside. There was a way to get the door open but that would be to go back to her grandmother's place. And the last thing she wanted to hear was the blabbing of her grandmother about leaving the countryside and moving to the main city.

But then again, she had no choice. The rain had stopped and the sky was clear. But there were no stars that night. She joined the crowd, waiting to cross the road. The moment the traffic light turned to the walking green icon, people started scurrying to the other side of the road.

Cat felt a sharp pain in her lower abdomen. But it vanished almost immediately.

"I must have eaten something bad." She belched and continued crossing the road with the crowd. The next wave of pain caused her to stop. The cars were getting ready to move and people had started running. Cat didn't know what was going on. All she felt was pain and when she looked down, she saw spittles of blood.

"What did I take?" She asked tenaciously. It was as though her intestines were being strangled.

"Ahhhh!!" She screamed, blood flowing from her nose and eyes.

An impatient driver who had just received a call that his wife was at the hospital came driving speedily. In a bid to pick up the nurse's second call, his phone fell.

"Arggghhhh!!!" He exclaimed while using his hands to search for the phone. When he couldn't find it, he looked away.

Everybody was shouting at Cat to get out of the road, little did they know that she couldn't hear them. Whatever was happening to her had spread fast across her body, causing her nose, eyes, mouth, and ears to bleed. She was in immense pain and it was a miracle she was still standing alive. A fast light was approaching her. Her eyes widened in shock but they closed almost immediately.

Before the guy could lift his head after finding his phone, his car had already made an impact with Cat, sending her body rolling across the street. He quickly stepped on the brakes and hurriedly rushed out. Several cars too had stopped upon seeing the awful accident. Camera lights were high in the sky as the guy approached her.

Even though the impact was great and could have killed anyone, Cat was still alive, barely. She was fighting for her life. She knew her grandmother would die of heartache and her poor cat would die of starvation if not found early. Hence, she had to live.

She opened her eyes slowly, just to see blurry images. She heard barely muffled sounds as she was being touched. She was a bloody mess, a sight that mothers hid from their children.

"Call an ambulance!!" Shouted the man who had hit her. Looking to her side, there was only one person who was clear. A young man who stood far away from the crowd that surrounded her. He had white hair and wore a white long robe with a soft smile. In his hand was a book, a foreign symbol boldly drawn at the back of it.

Her eyes became too heavy to keep open. She saw a bright shining star and painstakingly raised her hand to reach it.

"Do I die like this? What's going to happen to Grandma and Buyo? Who's going to take care of them?"

When she looked again, the man was no longer there.

"Time to go, Cat." She heard clearly. She felt her spirit leaving it body gradually. She tried to move but her body failed her. She had been damaged beyond repair. With one last breath, her hand fell to the ground and her eyes closed.
