After testing all the Wood Release techniques that required the least amount of chakra, Uchiha Fugaku concluded that he was unable to perform any of them. His current concentration of the Wood Release Kekkei Genkai was insufficient for using these techniques.
Despite this setback, Fugaku remained optimistic.
"Although I couldn't master Wood Release, I achieved my original goal and more," he mused.
While it was unfortunate that he couldn't wield the miraculous Wood Release, his efforts to use White Zetsu's body had been successful in other ways. The procedure had not only prevented further blindness but was also healing the damage to his eyes. Within a month, his vision would be fully restored.
"I should still be able to perform the techniques that White Zetsu was capable of. Even though these techniques may not be powerful, they are quite practical," Fugaku thought. "Unfortunately, due to time constraints, I couldn't capture White Zetsu alive for further interrogation. If I encounter him again, I'll try to extract those techniques from him."
Given the urgency of the situation at that time, capturing and torturing White Zetsu would have been impractical. There was also the risk of encountering Nagato's clone, making it nearly impossible to capture White Zetsu without being detected.
The next morning, Fugaku glanced at the woman sleeping beside him, partially exposed, before quietly dressing and leaving the bedroom.
After breakfast, he went to the Guard Department.
"Team leader."
"Team leader."
He was greeted by members of the security department as he entered his office. A pile of documents awaited him on his desk, accumulated during his absence.
He shifted through them, making comments and decisions as needed.
A knock sounded at the door, and Uchiha Yakumo, the right-hand man to Fugaku's predecessor, entered. Yakumo had managed the department efficiently in Fugaku's absence.
"Captain, I have something important to report!" Yakumo announced with a serious expression.
Noting Yakumo's demeanor, Fugaku cast a soundproof barrier and set up a closed space to ensure privacy.
"Go ahead," Fugaku said.
"I've made progress on the investigation into the family traitor," Yakumo began. "I've discovered significant information."
"Have you identified the traitor?" Fugaku asked, anxious.
"Yes," Yakumo replied. "The person we've identified so far is Uchiha Chi. However, we cannot rule out the possibility of others."
Fugaku's eyes widened in surprise.
Uchiha Chi, a member of the Uchiha clan with a three-tomoe Sharingan and elite jōnin strength, was one of the few rational members of the clan, along with the Second Elder Uchiha Mamoru.
"Is this confirmed?" Fugaku asked, still in disbelief.
"I saw him with a spiritual scroll used by Anbu for communication. I witnessed it myself," Yakumo said, clearly angered.
"I never imagined he would be the traitor," Fugaku sighed.
Chi was one of the more rational members of the clan, so Fugaku had trusted him. Learning he was a traitor was a significant blow.
"According to my findings, Uchiha Chi's father was from a different clan, and his mother was Uchiha. After his father's death in battle, he returned to the Uchiha clan and adopted their surname. He likely became a mole after joining the Anbu and meeting the Third Hokage."
Fugaku was taken aback by this revelation. Chi's mixed heritage and subsequent integration into the Uchiha clan, combined with his interactions with the Third Hokage, explained his betrayal.
"Captain, what should we do about Uchiha Chi?" Yakumo asked.
"Such a traitor cannot remain," Fugaku said with steely resolve. "He must be dealt with."
Fugaku's tolerance for traitors was zero. While Uchiha Shisui and Uchiha Itachi were exceptions due to their unique circumstances, Fugaku could not afford to be lenient with Chi.
"To avoid implicating the Uchiha clan, we should make his death appear unrelated to us."
Yakumo considered this. "How about we eliminate him during a mission, making it look like he was killed by external enemies? This would ensure no connection to the Uchiha clan."
"That's a good plan," Fugaku agreed. "Monitor Chi's mission assignments closely. If he accepts a mission that takes him outside the village, inform me immediately. We need to continue investigating for any additional traitors."
Yakumo acknowledged the order with a respectful "Yes."
