"My dear, we noticed your car is dirty, so we'd like to clean it for you."
Liu Sisi smiled as she looked at Gu Jingshu. "She should be your secretary, right? I'll be taking care of your work and life from now on, so you won't need her anymore."
"What eyes did you use to think she's my secretary? Did you see her with your eyes wide open?" Gu Jingshu looked confused.
"So, what's your relationship with her? Aren't you two dating?" Liu Sisi asked, raising an eyebrow.
Lin Yi, overhearing the conversation, chuckled. "The front of your house is more convex than yours, and the back is taller than yours. Do you think I can still see you?" Lin Yi said playfully.
Gu Jingshu felt nervous. She couldn't believe how quickly feelings had developed. The good fortune had come so suddenly; it felt like a dream.
"Lin Yi, don't you love me? Have you forgotten our relationship? Even though she might be physically better than me, her technique surely can't match mine," Gu Jingshu said with a pout.
Lin Yi sighed. "How do you know your technique isn't up to par? But if there's nothing else, I should be going," he said lightly.
Liu Sisi and her friends were left speechless. They could only watch as Lin Yi and Gu Jingshu got into the Pagani and drove away.
Gu Jingshu gazed at the Pagani with awe. This supercar was worlds apart from a Mercedes-Benz, BMW, or Audi. Pagani was in a league of its own.
"Mr. Lin, I hope you don't misunderstand. What I said earlier was just to make her annoyed. I'm not an ordinary person," Gu Jingshu said, a bit anxious.
"I'm just a driver now. Your personal situation isn't too important to me," Lin Yi replied with a smile.
Gu Jingshu felt a bit disappointed but understood that they had just met and weren't close. It was unrealistic to have high expectations.
"I'm sorry for what happened. I shouldn't have threatened to complain to you," she added.
"It's fine; we're all responsible for this," Lin Yi said as he drove. "Where would you like to go?"
"To the Splendid Hotel. A classmate of mine is having a wedding there," Gu Jingshu replied.
"Okay, I know the place," Lin Yi said, nodding.
At the Jinxiu Hotel, a colorful balloon arch greeted guests.
"What's up with Jingshu? It's already noon, and the wedding is about to start. Why isn't she here yet?" asked a woman with dyed yellow hair.
"Jingshu has changed. She now has a rich boyfriend. Time is precious. How could she be so free?" replied a short-haired girl. "A few days ago, she said her boyfriend bought her a Mercedes. Maybe she's flying high now."
"Don't listen to her. I saw her recently, she was on a bus. So the rich boyfriend might just be for show," said another girl skeptically.
"No way. That girl is really dating someone rich. It doesn't hurt to believe," said the short-haired girl.
As a silver supercar, the Pagani Zonda, approached, everyone looked up.
"Is this your wedding?" asked the girl with yellow hair.
"Impossible. Yingying is one of our classmates, and her family is ordinary. How could she have a friend driving a supercar?" answered another girl.
Under the curious gazes, Lin Yi parked the Pagani at the hotel entrance. The gullwing doors opened, and Gu Jingshu elegantly stepped out of the car, drawing everyone's attention.
"Jing, Jing Shu, you really arrived in a supercar!" exclaimed one of her friends.
"She, she just happened to be free today and drove me here," Gu Jingshu tried to look nervous, hoping Lin Yi wouldn't complicate things further.
"Jingshu, you're really impressive. You've got a rich boyfriend, and he even drove you here in a car like this," said several women with admiration.
Gu Jingshu bowed and said to Lin Yi in the car, "Thank you, please drive safely."
"Sure," Lin Yi replied with a smile.
Lin Yi nodded and left after dropping off Gu Jingshu. He had previously used Gu Jingshu as a shield, and now he was helping her once more.
A short while later, Lin Yi's phone rang. It was a call from Wu Jinlan, the eldest sister of his landlord.
Wu Jinlan, a middle-aged woman in her forties, was known for playing mahjong and collecting rent. Lin Yi dreaded receiving calls from her, as they usually involved rent issues.
"Lin Yi, you're 18 days overdue on your rent. When will you pay?" Wu Jinlan's angry voice came through the phone.
"Don't worry, I'll transfer the money right now," Lin Yi replied, feeling more at ease this time.
Wu Jinlan seemed hurried. "Hurry up. I have other matters to attend to."
Lin Yi had no intention of staying in the rental house any longer. With owning the Peninsula Hotel now, why suffer in a rented place?
He went back to the rental house to pack his things, leaving behind the old community he had been a part of for nearly 30 years.
At Wu Jinlan's house, her daughter, Zhang Jingjing, was having lunch while watching the news.
"Mom, don't you know Lin Yi is overdue on his rent by more than ten days? Don't push him too hard," Zhang Jingjing said.
Wu Jinlan frowned. "If he decides to run away someday, the rent won't just disappear."
"Lin Yi isn't like that," Zhang Jingjing replied.
Wu Jinlan shook her head. "How do you know? I told you, you two wouldn't work out. I won't let you be with him."
Zhang Jingjing disagreed. "Lin Yi is not only handsome but also motivated. I think he's quite good."
Wu Jinlan remained unconvinced. "Handsome isn't everything. You should focus on your future. You'll be a civil servant. There are many better young men in public institutions than Lin Yi. So why bother with him?"
