Late at night.
Beep, beep...
The police cars quickly arrived at the scene, and everyone felt a sense of dread as they surveyed the mess on the ground.
The ambulance took the injured to the hospital, while two bodies lay nearby, covered by white sheets.
The area was cordoned off.
After all, this involved a human life, and the accident needed further investigation!
"Captain Ryan, there are no surveillance cameras nearby!"
"A passing driver was the one who called it in. The only piece of evidence we have is the van left by the victims, but we checked, and there's no dashcam in the vehicle."
"We'll need to contact our colleagues in the transportation department to track the vehicle's origin using the license plate."
Ryan's expression was serious. He squatted down to inspect the two bodies. One of them was a young man with glasses, still clutching a laptop at the time of his death.
The other was heavily tattooed, built like someone who had lived a rough life.
The most crucial part was:
Among the victims was a woman who had been tied up, and the entire construction site had been abandoned for a long time.
Putting all of these things together, Ryan could already guess that this group had kidnapped the woman and brought her to this desolate place.
However, they seemed to have stumbled upon a poorly constructed site, leading to its collapse and the deaths of those involved.
Just then.
A colleague suddenly blurted out in shock: "Holy crap!"
"You wouldn't believe it in a million years! Do you know who these guys are?"
"These three men are all wanted criminals!"
"Fugitives!"
"The guy with the laptop is a hacker who dropped out of school at 16. He made over $40,000 from creating game cheats and was later arrested, serving two years in prison!"
"He was involved in a jewelry heist a few years ago, where two people died—one was an innocent passerby, and the other was a jewelry store employee!"
"One of the accomplices had a shaved head. Back then, we didn't have enough evidence to catch him, but now it looks like the accomplice was the bald man who was just rushed to the ER!"
"And this tattooed guy? He's been involved in kidnappings, intimidation, and even served time for manslaughter."
Officer Taylor, standing nearby, smirked: "I'm not surprised. Just looking at these guys, you can tell they were up to no good. Looks like karma caught up with them."
"They picked a cursed spot, and the whole site came down on them!"
Another colleague, sounding spooked, added, "Wait, it gets weirder! These three might've been scumbags, but the woman they kidnapped? She's the wife of the doctor who died in a car crash recently!"
At that, everyone froze.
They all remembered the case, which had struck them as odd. No matter how they looked at it, it seemed like an accidental car accident.
But the strange part was that the victim's family had always insisted it was a deliberate murder.
There was certainly a motive.
However, with insufficient evidence, the case had stalled. And now, before they could even make any progress, the wife had been kidnapped?
Officer Taylor's mouth twitched: "You've got to be kidding!"
"These two, this couple... they must be cursed. Why do bad things keep happening to them?"
Captain Ryan frowned, staring at the collapsed construction site. Thinking about the three fugitives, he muttered, "Something's not adding up here. There are pieces of this puzzle we're missing."
"What about the computer?"
"Did the computer reveal anything?"
At that moment, the computer was completely crushed and couldn't be turned on at all.
...
Two hours later.
At the local police department, the internal memory was retrieved through technical processing.
You could now see the information on the criminal's smashed laptop.
"Oh my God!"
Technician David widened his eyes as he looked at the files inside and muttered, "There's information about the doctor case here!"
"Even data from the jewelry robbery a few years ago is in here!"
"Although most of the content has been deleted and wiped, there's an encrypted file containing everyone's criminal details."
The colleague next to him smirked and said, "That clearly shows there were no good intentions. He probably kept it as leverage to use against his accomplices when necessary."
David laughed and replied, "You can never fully trust someone. Who knows?"
"He probably intended to make a big score, then use this information to blackmail his partners and take everything for himself!"
Captain Ryan knocked on the door, holding a large stack of documents, his expression serious. "Guys, I think we've really hit a tough case this time."
"There's news from the hospital. Ms. Flint is still in a coma and in critical condition."
"The bald guy with the gold necklace is going to need an amputation!"
"And most importantly, he woke up and confessed. He said they were hired to kidnap her for a $10 million bounty on the Dark Net."
"The $10 million was to capture the person responsible for the doctor's fatal car accident!"
"The most ridiculous part is that they followed the Dark Net's clues, hoping to catch the real mastermind behind the murder. The real culprit was supposed to receive the bounty by mail, but instead, they found that it was a woman who picked up the package!"
"They assumed this woman was working with the real murderer or had some connection to him!"
"So, they kidnapped her!"
Hearing this, David's eyes widened. "Wait a minute. So, you're telling me the real murderer who killed the doctor was actually his wife? She and others planned the car accident?"
Captain Ryan took a deep breath. "It's possible, but I think there's more to this."
"Think about it."
"Does anyone on the Dark Net really use their real name and address?"
"And someone who could plan such a seamless accident, would they make such a basic mistake?"
Officer Taylor, standing nearby, suddenly shuddered. "I get it! The mastermind is actually playing them."
"He figured out that someone would try to use the Dark Net bounty system to track him down, especially through the mail."
"So, he set them up by putting the doctor's wife's name on the package as the recipient of the $200,000 reward!"
Ryan nodded, his expression darkening. His voice dropped as he said, "And this guy seems to be more dangerous than we thought."
"Don't you think this is all a little too coincidental?"
"After these criminals tried to track him down, they suddenly die in an accident?"
"There are countless places they could have gone, yet they end up at this specific construction site?"
"And the site didn't collapse in the early morning or late at night."
"It collapsed just after this group of people arrived!"
"Resulting in two deaths and one injury."
"And there were no cameras at the scene—it all looks like a freak accident!"
Ryan gritted his teeth, his voice trembling slightly. "Is it possible that this guy has been using 'accidents' to cover up his murders?"
After that statement, the entire room fell into dead silence.
The speculation was terrifying.
The thought that all of this... every detail, was premeditated, meticulously orchestrated by someone who managed to turn the impossible into something logical, weighed heavily on everyone in the room.
A single, chilling question lingered in the air... what kind of person could be capable of such a feat?... who?
