When David got to the gate of the compound, this time the guards nodded their head to welcome David in, they did not hesitate to open the gate.
David felt welcomed at the compound and it felt good for him. Immediately he walked through the compound gate and he saw Herald, who was walking towards the gate.
"Come on, follow me." Herald said to David as he got to him, and without wasting anytime Herald want back towards the compound building.
David was annoyed because every time his uncle would just tell him to follow him without saying anything else, he was feed up with it.
"Wait!" David yelled out for his uncle to stop. "Why I'm following you, I just got here." He continued.
Herald turned back slowly and looked at him, he was not a surprise that he was hearing that from David, he was actually expecting it because of everything that have happened but he was not going get into it now.
"Leonard asked for you." Herald said with a straight face and walked away into the building.
David did not know what to say, he just stand there. He stood there for a while before he decided to go in.
He went slowly, he was wondering what new assignment Leonard had for him. Before he knew it, he was in front of the office, he took a deep breathe then entered the office.
Herald was already there standing with two other men and was Leonard sitting down.
They were all waiting for him as he walked towards them.
"You are fond of coming late aren't you?" Leonard said to David.
"I'm sorry about that." David said.
"Well now you are here, let's get started. We found out recently that the police got hold of some crucial evidence about us that can get us in big trouble and the last thing we want now is the police to be on our tail."
"What do you want to be done about it?" Herald asked.
"Well I need someone, two people actually to infiltrate the police department, get the evidence they have and make it disappear." Leonard answered.
Herald did not like where this was going because he knew that Leonard would tell him and David to go do the job so he wanted to say something about it but before he could, Leonard beat him to it.
"And I want you Herald and your kid to do the job."
"Wait, why does he have to come with me to do the job?" Herald argued. "I mean, he is still getting the hang of everything here and this job will be difficult, he is not ready." He continued.
David was not sure why herald did not want him to come with him and he begged to differ on what his uncle said about him not being ready.
David's annoyance kept growing because it was as if his uncle did not trust him on anything.
"You are right, the job is going to be difficult and that is why two people have to go, maybe one person go and get the evidence while the other stay on the lookout." Leonard said.
"But…,"Herald tried to say something.
"That it's, my decision is final." Leonard stopped Herald. "You two go tonight and make sure it is done before tomorrow." He continued.
Herald knew he could not change Leonard's mind so he just had to go on with it.
"Consider the job done." Herald said.
"Now that's more like it, if you need anything to assist you with the job, you know where to go."
When Leonard was done talking, Herald walked out of the room and David just stood there for a while before he left the room.
When David got out, he saw Herald standing right in front the door waiting for him.
"Look, this job is not going to be as easy as last time so why don't you just stay home while I do this on my own." Herald said to David.
David became furious because he assumed that his uncle thought that he would not be able handle the job.
"No." David spoke up. "I am joining you, Leonard gave the order and that is how it will be, I'm not going home."
Herald was surprised with the attitude but he did not know what to do, it would have been a lot easier if David would just listen to what he said.
"Hmmm, why are stubborn about this David?" Herald asked.
"Why don't you trust me, why don't you think I can't handle it?" David answered with a question.
"All I'm doing is to protect you and nothing else." Herald answered.
"Well I'm already here aren't I, so I should try to protect myself, you won't be with me forever." David said.
Herald was speechless, he did not know what to say or what to do, but then David walked away.
David was annoyed so he went out of the building to cool off. Herald did not want to go after him because he felt that David needed some space and a calm mind for tonight.
David was outside thinking and looking around, then someone came to him, it was one of the men that call him the other day. The man saw that David was not looking bright so he went to him and asked.
"What is the problem kid?"
David looked up to see the man, he did not feel like talking but he knew it would be rude not to answer.
"Nothing really." He replied.
"Come on kid, we are all family here, you can tell me." The man said.
"Well it's just my uncle. It's as if he doesn't believe in me and what I am capable of doing."
"Honestly kid I don't blame him." The man said.
"What do you mean?" David asked.
"He is just trying to protect you, everything we do here is really dangerous and you are still a kid." He explained. David knew that the man made sense but he struggled to accept that. "Look, just give it some time and show him that you can take care of yourself."
"Okay, I understand thanks." David said.
"No problem, oh yeah, about the job you and your uncle have tonight, honestly it's hard one but since you are going with your uncle, I am sure it will go well." The man said as he walked away.
David felt much better after talking to the man but he still felt uncertain, he decided to go out of the compound to have a little walk around the streets.
