Chapter 4 - Crying

After successfully escaping from prison, Rami moved to a spot a little further away from the prison gate. He settled in a place where he could see whether the warrior would emerge or not. His decision to leave the city depended on this, so he waited for a quarter of an hour, his eyes watching the situation intently.

Eventually, he noticed someone moving at a speed difficult for the ordinary eye to track. From the clothes he glimpsed, he was certain that this person was the warrior. He sighed with relief, feeling a bit of comfort. He returned to his sister's friend's house to retrieve her from there.

Upon reaching the house, Rami greeted his sister safely. While she drifted into a peaceful sleep, Rami remained awake, tormented by anxiety. He thought about the first killing he had committed and feared sleeping for dread of nightmares. He also pondered all the possible outcomes and consequences if he made any mistake. He worried about being discovered and captured.

He then considered whether to use the serum now or wait until later. Ultimately, he decided to wait until the next day because he wasn't sure how quickly the injection would take effect or if it had any noticeable side effects. He also feared that his sudden disappearance might make him a suspect in the robbery, leading to a security chase.

While his sister slept peacefully, Rami remained on high alert, in case he was discovered and security came to arrest him.

He planned to delay any further steps until the situation in the city calmed down, intending to stay there for a few more days. He hoped that things would pass peacefully and that he could avoid any unwanted attention.

The next morning, he went to the security center as usual. Upon arrival, he was shocked by the scene: screams filled the air, panic gripped everyone, and smoke billowed from the building due to a massive fire. Despite the chaos, the center itself was relatively far from the flames.

Rami entered the building, trying to appear unaware of what was happening. He went straight to one of the police officers he knew. He deliberately feigned ignorance and innocently asked, "What's happening here? Why all this smoke and screaming?"

The officer recognized Rami and replied, "A big fire broke out in the building. There was a sudden explosion, and there's also been an escape. The captain is very upset, so we're working to control the situation and find the escaped prisoner. The fire has been put out, and now people are dealing with its aftermath."

Rami felt anxious. He feared that one of the prisoners might have spotted him during the fight, but he tried to push those worries aside. He only hoped that the warrior who saved him had escaped because being captured meant a high chance of exposing his identity, another reason why he couldn't stay in this city.

Afterward, he wandered around for some time, observing the events and keeping track of the situation. He didn't do any cleaning today due to the circumstances, and he didn't care if he got fired since he was going to leave the city anyway.

After half an hour of wandering and confirming that the only problem was the security director who seemed about to explode with anger, he left the place and began preparing to leave the city, but first, he needed some money.

An hour later...

I went to a reputable person who deals in buying and selling. I sold the house for 7 gold coins, which is a good price for such a house, and I also asked for a one-month grace period. I don't know how Leila will react.

On my way back, I passed by Edmund's house to see a scene that made me break out in a cold sweat. I saw security officers surrounding the place and dragging Edmund, who was crying like a child, along with his parents. When I looked at them, I thought, "It seems they are doomed to die. Even if they're found innocent, they'll die because they're involved in a noble's case. In a noble's case, even if you're innocent, you'll be killed if there's any suspicion of your involvement."

I didn't feel any pity for Edmund. He was the one who killed the original owner of this body and constantly bullied him. This aggressive behavior made me feel no sympathy for him.

The hatred I felt toward those who harmed the original body came from a deep understanding that this body is part of me. If what I believe is true, then the body I'm living in now is my own, and after I regained the memories of my past life, the memories of that life overshadowed those of this body. My memories span nineteen years, unlike this body, which only has nine years, which is why Leila is deeply considered my true sister.

I ignored this matter for now and focused on how quickly Edmund was captured. Then I whispered to myself, "Damn, I was right not to vomit there." If I had done so, I might have been arrested along with Edmund. It seems they have specialists in tracking and can detect any unusual or unexpected behavior.

Then I remembered Leila and ran quickly to the house in case they had discovered me as well.

When I arrived home, I found the area quiet and sighed in relief. This meant the security forces hadn't discovered him yet. When he entered the house, he heard a familiar crying sound coming from one of the rooms. Anger filled him, but he tried to control himself and entered the room to find his little sister crying heavily.

He approached her gently, hugged her, and asked softly, "What's making you cry, little one?"

After some time, his sister began to explain the reason for her tears clearly. She said, "The girls in the neighborhood told me that Mom is stupid because she refused the noble's offer to sleep with him. They said she could have gotten a lot of money and maybe even become his servant, and that she doesn't love us. If she did, she would have accepted the offer. Is that true, brother?"

When he heard that, he exploded with anger. He couldn't bear any insult related to his mother, so he lost his temper and shouted, "What are you saying? You should know how hard our mother worked for us. How can some annoying girls convince you otherwise?"

Then he realized that he had completely lost his temper, turned to his sister, who was crying again, and she said in a trembling voice, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I won't say it again. Please, don't leave me like Mom."

Hearing these words, his heart softened. He felt that his sister was suffering from loneliness and fear, so he tried to comfort her. He said gently, "I'm sorry, sister. Your brother lost his temper a bit. You'll forgive me, won't you?" He said this as he gently patted her head. When she heard his words, she slowly nodded.

He smiled, feeling relieved to see his sister calming down, and said, "You're a good sister." Then he continued seriously, "Don't compare our mother to those girls. Those girls are just worthless whores, while your mother maintained her honor and dignity with all her might. She didn't allow the nobles to touch her dignity, and all of that was to protect our honor. If our mother had accepted the noble's offer, I would have held this against her in my heart and might never forgive her. Take what happened with your mother as a lesson for yourself. And as long as I'm with you, I won't let you be forced into making a choice like our mother."

She listened to his words and nodded seriously, then stopped crying. He felt satisfied seeing his sister calm down and realized that his words about not forgiving were not only expressing his opinion but also the feelings of the original owner of the body. That person had grieved deeply for his mother's death, but he would never have blamed her for her choices.
