CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR
She carefully put the pendant around her neck, admiring it for a moment before heading to lock her door.
After a quick glance over her shoulder, she returned to her room.
Once inside, she slipped the pendant off, placing it back in its velvet box, making sure it was well hidden.
"Better safe than sorry," she muttered under her breath, tucking it away where no one would think to look.

Cherry jolted awake, mid-dream, where her mother was about to feed her croquetas.
She blinked, realizing she had been licking the headboard of her bed.
"Seriously?" she groaned, rubbing the sleep from her eyes and wiping the drool off her face.
"Can I get any more ridiculous?"
Living in that fancy house meant gourmet food every day, but all she could think about was her favorite hometown dishes, and croquetas were at the top of the list.
