Chapter 10 - 10. Drax (10)

Time passed and quite contrary to what Alucard and the Elf Queen, Freya, had been wary about, no one came for their baby.

This was surprising but not unexpected.

The Heavenly Realm did not act under the laws of the Living World and while they could do whatever, Alucard and Freya knew to be on guard and also expectant.

They might not have reacted as quickly as the duo anticipated but that didn't completely rule out the possibility that they would still appear one day.

Drax had grown remarkably as a half-elf and half-dragon that he was, turning into a healthy and strong-looking boy.

Over the course of the two years that passed, Drax was pretty much passively learning about his world and the system he was blessed with.

His only major activities were to drink milk, poop and sleep without any extraordinary events happening in his life.

In addition to this, he picked up as much information as his circumstances would allow him to eavesdrop on.

Today was exactly two years since Freya and Alucard summoned him into this world but that was not all.

This was also the year when he was going to choose his name.

Per the elven tradition of the World of Xenithia, the elves choose their names, only naturally getting their family names from birth. In other words, Drax had only been a nameless descendant of the van Elenor noble family.

He knelt on the bed in his room, looking out through the window with a smile on his face as he watched the sun rising from the east.

Since hearing about this from Freya a few months back, Drax had been excited.

He didn't know why since the option of a name was already in his head.

Drax had already decided to retain his name back on Earth — Drax.

There was nothing he could do about the family name and so he was going to live his new life as Drax van Elenor.

The boy pushed his windows open, allowing the first cool breeze of the morning to blow over his face and brush his hair as he sniffed deeply.

Satisfied, he stayed there, allowing the soothing warmth of the morning sun to hit him.

'I wonder what name Mother would give me,' Drax thought as he reminded the second clause attached to the name choosing.

The first was that one could choose their first name.

The second is that one's parents would choose their last name; in Drax's case, Freya opted to do that since Alucard was not as interested in doing so as she was.

Alucard wanted the boy to also have a name that was tied to his draconic legacy but she was not as invested as to force it upon him.

After all, this particular naming culture belonged to the elves and not her race.

"A beautiful day indeed," Drax muttered.

By virtue of his consistent growth and natural expectations, Drax's only skill — [Universal Tongue] — had advanced and fully activated so that he could understand and fluently speak the language of this new world.

While he was basking in the beauty of nature outside of his room, he heard the sound of his door handle clicking.

Drax turned his head and looked at his door as it opened.

"Happy birthday, darling!"

As it was the year before, Freya had rushed in to be the first to wish him a happy birthday.

He had nothing against this. If anything, he loved it even.

He loved that Freya loved him and didn't mind openly showing it off.

"Mother," Drax muttered with a smile as Freya clapped her hands and danced slowly towards him while singing a birthday song for her son.

Drax's face flushed, and he giggled most sweetly while moving on his bed towards his mother.

Freya approached him and lifted him by his axillas, throwing him a tad into the air.

Freya was happy, and so was Drax, with both of them sharing a hearty laughter.

After about three to four throws, Freya stopped and carried Drax before planting several kisses on his face.

"Mo-Mother…!" Drax tried to protest but for every word he said, he got thousands of more kisses in return.

Drax cackled with delight and his eyes brightened up as Freya continued to paint his face with kisses like it was a canvas.

His tiny, warm giggles infected Freya even more as she also cooed with amusement.

"My sweet little darling is growing up so fast!"

Freya's eyes were wet as she looked at Drax.

"Are you… crying… Mother?"

Drax paused as soon as he noticed the tears that were gathering in her eyes.

Freya shook her head. "No, my darling. Mama is just happy."

She rubbed her forehead against his as she chuckled.

"Mama is just happy that her baby is growing into a strong and healthy boy."

Drax smiled and nodded.

"Are you ready to choose a name?" Freya asked.

Drax couldn't hide his excitement with this as he furiously shook his head in response.

"Hehehe! Someone is excited."

She softly pinched his cheek. "We will do that and then… we will have a big feast. You want a big feast for your birthday, right? Right, my darling?"

Drax nodded furiously again.

"That's good," she said. "I will take you there then."

The mother and son duo had a few more minutes of warm moments before leaving the room.

*********

Freya left the room, carrying Drax as she walked the hallway in the company of a few elf maids.

They followed the mother and son pair until they reached a certain part of the castle which seemed to lead underground.

The Elf Queen halted and turned to the maidens.

"You three can go back and help with the preparations. I can handle it from here."

Without any word, the three elf maids curtsied and heeded the words of their queen, leaving her and her son be.

Freya channelled a string of mana from the tip of her index finger into the keyhole on the ancient-looking door.

Immediately she did that, the old door dismantled like a puzzle, creating a path for them to walk.

Drax's mouth parted and his eyes grew extra wide when he witnessed this.

He looked down and saw a flight of stairs and then looked at his mother.

Freya smiled at him.

"Don't be afraid, my dear. You will also learn a bit of your elven heritage today."
