The question was simple. Alex could feel the words right there at the tip of his tongue but felt they were insufficient. Not good enough. He thought of the right words that could express himself better, but no other words came to his mind.
Sara looked at him and felt her heart constrict the longer he took to reply. Was he unable to answer that question? Was it too sudden to ask? Her thoughts wandered, blaming and repremading herself for asking that, completely unaware of the reason for his silence.
He said he loved her but she hadn't said that to him. She was even unsure if she loved him, yet. Though, she could not deny the growing attraction and affection. She had fallen for him, but she couldn't bring herself to say she loved him. But he had expressed that without an ounce of care, or fear, completely trusting her and baring himself before her. She was too ungrateful and greedy to say that.
