Chereads / Melting Her Cold Heart / Chapter 4 - Because it's you

Chapter 4 - Because it's you

Days went by with Sara continuing her normal routine, going to work, and returning home. Besides the change in her temperament, which became cold and distant, it was as if nothing had happened. Until today, her colleagues were all fussing about the new president who would be taking over Legend Corp. Although she had no interest in him or knowing him personally, she listened to some of their gossip.

After all, he would be her boss soon.

"I heard he is quite handsome and even better looking than celebrities."

'The more good looking a man is, the more of a scum he is,' Sara thought when she heard that he was a handsome young man. Her thoughts trailed off when another spoke.

"Really? I heard he is very strict. I do hope that he won't overwork us."

'At least he seems to take his work seriously,' Sara thought, nodding her head to that.

"Yeah, I heard that he is very cold too."

"I heard that too. Rumors also say that he hates women, too. Among all the people close to him, there isn't a single woman amongst them," another woman chimed.

"So he is noy just cold but also mean?" A frail voice said as if struck by cold.

"So there is no chance of anyone here becoming Mrs Legend?" A woman who claims to be the most beautiful woman in the company said with a sigh. She flipped her blonde hair and then blew on her nails as if just flipping her hair ruined her perfectly manicured nails.

Sara sighed and decided to ignore the gossip in the office. She had to give credit to them, being employees of the PR department, they were well informed. In other words , they were doing their job right. But none of that concerned her. As long as the new president didn't do anything unprofessional, she wouldn't have any problem with him.

Just like that, Sara ignored everything and everyone else and focused on her work, giving short responses to those who bothered to approach her. But just before lunch, something she never expected happened.

The manager of the PR department, Jocelyn Davis, walked in. She didn't look happy but also tried to hide her frown, which failed miserably.

"Sara Ambrose," she stopped in front of Sara's desk, placing a palm on it and leaning forward in a provocative manner.

"Yes, Manager Davis," Sara still maintained her composure. She hadn't done anything wrong, so there was no reason for the woman in front of her to be mad because of her.

"I don't know what dirty tricks you played, but know that I've got my eyes on you," Jocelyn uttered, pointing two fingers at her own eyes before pointing them at Sara.

Those words managed to garner the attention of everyone else. Even those who wanted to ignore the manager's presence and keep working couldn't help but look too.

"May I know what I did wrong?" Sara asked, her tone still placid and her gaze indifferent.

"Just because you got the face, you think you are something special?" Jocelyn uttered, but Sara only tilted her head to the left and raised a brow. "Hmph. The president is in need of a new secretary, and out of everyone within Legend Corp, he picks you," she glared at Sara and gasps could be heard from everyone around them. "Go and meet him now before you provoke him to anger. After all, you never know what could be true about the rumors."

"Pardon?" Sara was taken aback, and so was everyone else who heard those words. Sara tuned out all of the other words that left Jocelyn's lips as soon as she heard that the president wanted her as his secretary.

"Stop the presence. You are not as innocent as you look. You must have done something to have gotten you there," Jocelyn said and walked away, flipping her hair while doing so.

Everyone also started murmuring, wondering how it was possible. The president needed a secretary, and for the first time, he chose a woman for the position. We're the rumors, just rumors, or was there something different this time?

They also couldn't help throwing nassty glances at Sara, who still sat with confusion on her face. Anyone else would celebrate at the news, but she wasn't anyone. She became a PR employee to avoid men, and now she would be trapped with one man every minute of the day. Sighing, Sara rose to her feet and made her way to the president's office. She would like to reject the offer, but she doubted she would be given a choice.

Getting there, she knocked and waited for permission before going in.

"You wanted to see me, President?" She uttered, looking at the man who seemed rather busy with the file on the desk in front of him. He hadn't even looked up at her yet, but she could tell that he was indeed good-looking. The fan girls back at the PR department weren't exaggerating.

But she was also right. The more good-looking a man is, the more of a scum he was. Sara inwardly shook her head and pushed the thought to the back of her mind. He wasn't courting her. She is here for work and nothing more.

Looking at him once again, she felt something was missing. The cold and aloof demeanor they spoke about was missing in this man seated in front of her. He looked rather approachable.

"Yes," he replied, raising his head to look at her for the first time since she walked in. Sara's breath caught in her throat upon seeing his face. He was handsome and much more than she thought. Her heart couldn't skip a beat. "Come, have a seat." His deep voice sent ripples through her body once again, and she nearly shuddered.

'Even his voice is charming,' Sara's thoughts shocked her. She couldn't believe she was thinking about a man's voice. Seeing him raise a brow, she realized that she was still standing in the same spot.

"Is something the matter, Miss Ambrose?" He inquired.

Sara took a deep breath and shook her head lightly, "No Sir. There is nothing wrong," she replied and took her steps towards the seat he had pointed out to her. "But I'd like to ask you a few questions if you don't mind, Sir?"

The man raised a brow. This was unexpected.

"You have questions?" He asked.

"Yes sir."

"Go on then, let me hear them," he said with an amused expression.

Sara closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and exhaled slowly. Opening her eyes, she asked. "Why me?" He raised a brow, and she elaborated. "You could have picked anyone. Manager Davis would have been more than willing to be your secretary, but rather than her, you chose me. I know there are others who would love this, too. So, why me?"

"Why you?" He reiterated, tapping a finger on his temple, and then he smiled. "That's quite simple. I chose you, because it's you I want. Because you are you, Sara."
