Chereads / Vampires and Demons / Chapter 4 - Grandma

Chapter 4 - Grandma

Liam was astonished as the demon drew closer to his grandmother, although it acted like there was a hidden force it was pushing against, it was strong.

It's roar was loud.

Liam was too scared to even move but he had to.

As he got to his feet, albeit shakily.

He discovered that there was nothing he could do, everywhere was dark and the only light in the room, originated from his grandmother's eyes.

Although Liam couldn't see the demon clearly, he could guess how monstrous it was from the sound of its roar.

Just then the shaking of the house started to die down and the roar of the monster started getting distant.

But Liam couldn't believe what he saw next.

Just as the monster's figure was blurring out it made one last struggle and swipped it's claws at the old woman who still had white light permitting from her eyes.

To Liam's horror the claw tore at her heart, down straight towards her belly.

Then the demon finally disappeared.

As the demon disappeared the room's darkness suddenly receded and light shone through.

His grandma fell limply on the ground as she lost consciousness.

Liam stood frozen, he was shocked.

He couldn't shout or scream, he was just stunned.

After some few seconds of processing what just happened, Liam rushed towards her with fear in his eyes and his heart beating widely.

If there was anyone Liam wanted to see die the least, then it was his grandmother.

Due to his parents busy schedule and work, they hardly spent time with him.

So he grew up with his grandmother from as young as he could remember. She took care of him in the absence of his parents and it wouldn't be an exaggeration to call her his closest relative.

So seeing the horror of what seemed to be her death playing right in front of him, Liam felt his soul leaving his body.

"No, no, no, grandma!" Liam threw his bag as he knelt down in front of the old woman.

Despite her wrinkled skin and old looks, one could easily tell that the woman was a great beauty when she was young.

Her eyes were close and her breathing was faint but her body was soaked with her own blood.

"Hold on grandma." Liam said with his voice breaking.

He quickly fetched for his phone which was in his pockets.

With anxiety and shaky hands, Liam quickly dialed 911, a woman picked at the other end of the phone, Liam quickly explained in a rushed voice that he needed help.

He thought about calling his parents but, most times they were very far from home, so there was little they could do to help at this moment.

The house was far from the city, he actually wondered if they could make it in time.

Liam stared at his grandma, he could feel her breathing getting slow and her face turning pale, the wound was deep, too deep that Liam felt like she couldn't make it.

Just as Liam was in worry, his grandma's eyes slowly opened shocking Liam.

Seeing Liam was well and healthy, she smiled.

"Grandma, please hold on, don't die" Liam said with tears welling up in his eyes.

"How many times have I told you not to cry you boy" His grandma's voice sounded weakly in his ears.

"Grandma I...."

"Shhhhh I was going to die either ways" she then strained her neck to look around, then she smiled weakly, "It should last a while"

Liam didn't understand what she meant by that.

"But this scene is too much for you to live with Liam, so forgive me" Then suddenly her eyes released the same white light as she muttered something, something Liam could still remember very clearly.

Oblīviscere quod vīdistī

Sophia had said the same thing when she wanted to erase their memories.

The light dimmed as His grandma fell limply on his arms.

Her breathing stopped.

She was dead.

Liam felt like his heart was shattering.

He couldn't bear it, he burst into tears.

He cried silently as his eyes reddened.

The sound of sirens grew louder as they neared the building.

Dressed in uniforms, they barged into the house.

Seeing Liam holding his grandmom in his hands crying, they knew.

They knew she was dead.

They stood in the distance allowing the boy to mourn.

*****************

It's been five hours since Liam held his grandma in his hands, he finally let go allowing her to be put in the ambulance.

He didn't know how to break the news to his parents but he knew he had to.

He picked up his phone and dialed his Dad's number

Meanwhile in a palace like room, an old man sat down on a throne.

A paper flew towards the man magically out of thin air.

The man caught the paper and slowly opened it to see it's contents.

As he read his face slowly changed, his emotionless face showed sorrow.

Just then a girl walked into the palace with graceful steps, she looked astonishingly beautiful.

She walked towards the old man and bowed slowly as she called out softly "Master"

If Liam was here, he'd be shocked because he knew the girl, she was Sophia, the girl that nearly wiped his memory.

"What brings you here little girl?" The old man asked.

"Something strange seemed to be going on in campus" Sophia began.

The man's expression turned incredulous.

"What is this something you can't deal with, that you have to disturb this old man for?"

"Well, I can deal with half of the matter, but as I said the part that is strange is something I have to let you know"

"Hmmm, strange? What's that?"

"Is it possible for someone to suddenly become a werewolf without any prior bite?"

"Claws can cause that, when it penetrates deeply, although rare claws do cause that"

"No, even without claw marks"

"Hmmm, I don't think I have heard of that before"

"Well that's the strange thing I thought might be worthy of your attention"
