The houses were nothing like the ex-hunter had known. Massive buildings that had sheltered thinking beings for eons had been replaced by low but monstrously wide trees. It was in these that the beast folk lived.
Passing by one such structure, the former hunter glanced at it. The tree, or rather the house, was huge, given that it is a plant, but terribly disproportionate. He could see the spacious but modestly furnished and sympathetic interior through the ajar door, one of the few artificial things.
