Vincent
The stupid bitch was pissing me off with her stupid laugh and her perfume which smelled like cheap designer crap the longer I was sitting at the same table as her.
She was my boss and I couldn't refuse her invitation to dinner anymore since I was working at the investigation agency I was currently employed as a detective.
The old one retired and this new took his place. I hated the woman from the first time I met her when she started to dig into things she shouldn't have. I couldn't let her suspect me to be the one who is responsible for the recent murders since the cases are still unsolved, taking too long for me to find the victims or any evidence about it.
Sara Brooks. That's her name.
She thinks she can flirt with her way out of paying me the salary I got and then blame the case on me if something goes wrong. I wish I would strangle the bitch.
I never hurt women or children. That's my motto but this one gets under my skin.
To get under her good graces, I will indulge her an hour or so before I leave this place. The thoughts of my girl calmed me down a bit.
Fuck, I want to taste her again.
The smile on my lips are noticeable but Sara thinks I'm just happy to be with her.
Fuck, I hate her.
Sipping my drink in annoyance, her voice grazes over my skin like fire ants crawling under my clothes. The suit suddenly felt tight.
"So Vincent,- she starts but I interrupt her.
"Mr. De la Roche."
Sara laughs like it's funny," Okay, Mr. De la Roche. You don't have to be so formal with me. I know we haven't worked together that long but since you're on my team, we should be on first name basis. It makes me feel old," she smirks, flattering her fake eyelashes at me.
'You're old' , I want to say and suppress the urge to chuckle at that.
For a 52years old with plastic surgery, some people would say she looks young but her nasty personality is what makes her feel older.
"Mrs. Brooks, I appreciate the offer but we will have to stick with our last names. It's better to be professional and this is work dinner to remind you," I say calmly but the words stung my tongue a little. It was a low blow but I needed to be harsh to make sure she knew that I won't budge from my decision. She doesn't seem to care though.
I could sense the annoyance bubbling inside her when she tries to hide it, she probably doesn't know the word no.
"Fine. Whatever suits you. So about the case of the last missing person. Charles Parker. You still don't have a clue where he might be?"
Yeah, deep under ground in my cemetery.
"No but I'm still handling the case, finding leads. There were some victims of his still alive after sexual assaults but two of them are hospitalized with a head trauma. I would have to ask their families what they know," I say smoothly.
She has no fucking idea that she is sitting with the killer. She wouldn't be smiling at me otherwise.
My watch pings and I see Arianna's tracker move which was installed in her phone. I couldn't listen to the audio since I was on a business dinner but the red dot moved dangerously close to the restaurant where we sat.
If she sees me with my boss, she will misunderstand.
The case took longer than I expected and going back to the city because of my book, I needed to convince them to give me more time. Deadline was coming and I was already a month late.
I start to think that I just need to quit so I can be with my girl full time. No one will get between us anymore.
The waiter comes with the food for Sara and I don't even listen to her when I see Arianna's location just right by the restaurant.
I knew her daily schedule but lately she never comes to this place alone.
Why are you here, baby?
I hope that I don't need to kill another of her clients if she is just having a work meeting to sell her art.
"Are you listening, Mr. De la Roche?" Sara asks, her full mouth full of food.
Yuck, even in formal settings, she eats like a pig.
"Yes, go on," I say and keep checking for the tracker but then I hear them before I see them.
My beautiful girl comes inside the restaurant and my eyes immediately finds her friend. Once I see it's just her best friend Nicole, I relax a bit, glad that she's not with a man.
The waiter is saying something to her when her eyes briefly glance behind him towards our table. Pretending not to see her is hard when she looks so edible in her cute outfit of cheerleader skirt and a crop top with the name 'Good girl'.
Hiding a smirk, I take another sip of my drink but my heart stops once I see her expression. She looks angry. Hurt.
Shit.
Of course I'm the cause.
Her eyes almost kills the woman in front of me. She looks jealous.
Even if I want to smile, her tears are too intense, too painful to witness and I don't dare look directly into her eyes.
What have I done?
She turns around, trying to leave but Nicole convinces her to stay when waiter escorts them to the booth on the other side of this dining hall but I still have eyes on them through the gap between their table and the wall.
Arianna looks so upset that I can't control myself anymore. Taking the small earpiece from my jacket, I slip it inside my ear when Sara is not looking.
I press the audio button to allow me to hear her through her phone and that's when I hear her words.
"Don't bother. I will not not allow him ruin my life anymore. He was a mistake."
The glass in my hand shatters before I notice my hand squeezing it so hard until the blood is dripping from my knuckles when I hit the table with my other fist.
Sara looks at me like I'm crazy but I don't fucking care anymore.
My girl's words are still ringing in my ears when restaurant staff and other customers freeze from fear and surprise. I didn't pay attention. I wasn't planning on making a scene anyway.
I wanted to avoid it and ignore Arianna's presence until I'm done with this stupid dinner so I can go to her place later on but I guess I will do it now.
My glare pins my girl in place when she realizes that I'm watching and see her throat move slightly when she swallows, the action making my body react.
I'm a mistake?
I fucking knew she is upset that I'm having dinner with someone else after I left her for three days but doesn't she know that I love her too much to betray her trust? That's she's the only one for me?
I will make her regret those words once I get her under me again and fuck the shit out of her doubts about my loyalty to her. Don't she understand that no one else would ever replace her in my heart?
There's blood on my hand but I ignore the pain when I send her a text on the phone, my fingers trembling with anger.
Baby, you're in trouble.
Her eyes widen in surprise but then she does something I don't expect her to do.
She flips me off and takes Nicole by the hand and rushes out of the restaurant.
Leaving me. And not responding to my message like I told her to do everytime if I ever contact her.
My body is stiff with rage but also guilt when I watch the girls disappear through the door.
Almost knocking the chair down, I stand up angrily ready to chase them out but I stop when I realize Sara is waiting patiently for me in front of her seat.
"What are you doing? You're bleeding," She says while standing.
I can't respond to her since I'm staring at the door that Arianna ran through. I need to catch up with them before they reach their car. My feet are moving on their own accord as I walk toward the exit, leaving dumbfounded Sara behind.
Since she is already annoyed with me, it will be nothing if she will hate me after I left her pay on her own. Couldn't care less. On my mind was only Arianna.
Wiping the blood from my hand with the tissue I snatched from the waiter, my teeth gnashed tightly.
I will show you mistake, love.
I will fucking show you.
