I followed him, there was no need for chains, his presence alone was enough to deter me from running. We were deep underground, the high inquisitor walked the mountain of insurmountable stairs like it was a nice morning stroll. Passing the precipice of this Everest of countless steps we enter a gate room with two guards standing watch. Both bow there heads bashing their chests in perfect synchronization. The salute stunned me, it ripped me from my mortal troubles, and took me back to when I was a boy playing soldier.
I was smacked back to reality when one of the guards so valiantly standing guard a second ago wacked me on the shoulder.
"Sixth division, eh? Is it as bad as they say?" He asked well escorting me through the halls. I don't know when but the high inquisitor disappeared.
"I don't know what you mean?"
"Oh come on, don't play coy." He chuckled. "Rumor has, you're all freaks, best of the best sure, but freaky killers who would be better off in a cell." I didn't respond so he continued. "I suppose that's why they sent you men to handle the Castryans. Best send monsters to hunt monsters. I'm shocked the Federation keeps your division around. No offense, you seem like a nice lad. Don't let me a member of the templar, get you down, you guys do the shit well i'm left yankin in the corner. I never understood why they kept some of their best men just sitting around, though I'm sure it's just for those old wankers upstairs to feel nice and safe. Not saying I'm good enough to join the Sixth, but I did graduate top of my class in officer school. Man speaking of such do you know Louce." He stops staring me dead in the eyes with an expecting glare.
I trip over my tongue. Should I know Louce, is not knowing Louce proof I am not part of the Sixth?
"I don't know him." I stuck to my guns.
"Weird, I thought you guys would be a tight knit group with how few you are. Anyway Louce was my pal back then, you could say we were rivals."
I couldn't help but think, "does this guy ever shut up?"
"It was a race, neck to neck, he was more physically gifted, I was just slightly better than him in terms of brains... So yeah if you see him," He gave a professional smile, "please tell him I said hi."
We found ourselves in front of a massive iron gate. For the size of the castle the guard count was small. I only noticed 40, but no matter where we went I always felt watched.
