Today has been nothing but misfortunes, except for the unexpected encounter with a stunningly beautiful woman.
It started with a phone call informing me I'd been fired. In my distress, I accidentally dropped my phone into a river - there went my cheap knockoff smartphone. Then, while trying to withdraw money for rent, a pickpocket stole my cash and the ATM swallowed my card. The $500 in that account was my lifeline for rent! To top it off, the bike I'd relied on for three years was confiscated by city management for being too old and "affecting the city's appearance."
With no prospect of dinner, I trudged back to my apartment complex in a daze.
Surprisingly, I noticed a BMW parked downstairs. Through the window, I could make out a young woman slumped over the steering wheel, her shoulders shaking slightly. I didn't want to intrude, so I continued on my way.
Desperate for food, I spotted some vegetables growing in a nearby community garden. I plucked a small leafy green, reasoning it would make a decent soup with the few grains of rice I had left.
My fifth-floor apartment is in a rather colorful building. To my left live some young women who often bring older men home, resulting in some questionable noises. To my right are college students with a full set of musical instruments they practice daily. Needless to say, my nights are often interrupted by a cacophony of sounds.
As I prepared my meager meal, I noticed news about the virtual reality game "Ethereal Surge" launching tomorrow. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford the required gaming headset.
Then came the mixed blessing - I rescued the drunk BMW girl from some thugs, but now found myself locked out of my own room! Her belongings, including an "Ethereal Surge" headset, were in the hallway. How did she have one already when they weren't supposed to be on sale until tomorrow?
Just then, her phone rang. The caller ID said "Sister." I answered, hoping her sister could come get her.
A sweet voice asked, "Emma, where are you? Why aren't you home yet?"
I explained the situation, but the sister immediately became suspicious and angry, accusing me of taking advantage of Emma.
Frustrated after my terrible day, I snapped back, "Listen here, you harpy! Let me explain what happened!"
But before I could continue, the phone died. Great, another thing gone wrong today...
