"Don't even think about telling him or revealing what you know, or I'll make everything worse for both of you. You won't be able to recover from it."
Cory's message, sent from an unknown number since I had long blocked him, sent a chill through me. This was more serious than I'd anticipated, and I felt the weight of isolation press down hard.
"Mrs. Danvers, Mr. Danvers is waiting for you in the car," Samuel said, bringing me back to reality. I quickly wiped my tears and turned to him with a composed smile.
"Yes, let's get going," I replied, walking past him while he rushed to collect the bags I had almost forgotten I was holding.
