Chapter 5 - The Profile

The next day, we gathered in the school library, laptops open, ready to start writing. Emily distributed assignments:

- Debate team feature: Alex

- Mental health in sports: Emily

- Mr. Johnson's profile: Me

I began researching Mr. Johnson's background, searching for interesting anecdotes. Alex and Emily worked diligently beside me.

As I scrolled through old school newspapers, I stumbled upon an article: "Johnson Leads Lincoln High to State Championship." Intrigued, I read on.

"Ms. Thompson mentioned his rich history," I whispered to Alex. "Looks like he was a sports legend here."

Alex raised an eyebrow. "Good find. I'll interview him tomorrow."

Emily looked up from her laptop. "I've got some great quotes from the debate team captain."

Our collaboration was seamless, ideas flowing effortlessly.

The library's quiet atmosphere helped us focus. We worked tirelessly, fueled by determination and teamwork.

As the sun set outside, casting a warm glow through the library windows, we took a break.

"Want to grab snacks from the cafeteria?" Emily asked.

Alex nodded. "I could use a coffee."

I smiled. "Let's take a walk."

As we strolled through the emptying hallways, our conversation turned to Mr. Johnson.

"What do you think he'll be like?" Emily wondered.

Alex grinned. "Witty, according to Ms. Thompson."

I chuckled. "I'm prepared for his wit."

We entered the cafeteria, filled with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and baked goods.

"Coffee and muffins, the perfect fuel," Emily said, laughing.

As we sat down, Alex asked, "Do you think Mr. Johnson will open up about his past?"

I pondered. "Maybe. If we ask the right questions."

Emily nodded. "We'll need to be sensitive."

Our discussion continued, weaving between school gossip and story ideas.

After snacks, we returned to the library, refreshed and focused.

Alex dived into her debate team article, Emily explored mental health in sports, and I delved deeper into Mr. Johnson's profile.

The hours flew by, words flowing onto our pages.

As the library closed, we exchanged updates.

"I've got a solid draft," Alex said.

"Me too," Emily replied.

I smiled. "Just need to finalize my interview questions."

Our teamwork was paying off.

As I walked home, I couldn't shake off the excitement. Our project was taking shape.

The next day, Alex and I met in the school's conference room to interview Mr. Johnson.

"Remember, be prepared for his wit," Alex whispered, smiling.

I nodded, fidgeting with my notebook.

Mr. Johnson entered, his presence commanding attention.

"Ah, my star reporters!" He beamed.

Alex and I exchanged nervous glances.

"Mr. Johnson, thanks for taking the time," Alex began.

He leaned back, hands clasped. "Fire away."

We took turns asking questions, delving into his past.

"What inspired you to become a teacher?" I asked.

Mr. Johnson's eyes sparkled. "My own teacher, Mrs. Thompson's mother."

Alex raised an eyebrow. "Small world."

Mr. Johnson chuckled. "Indeed."

As the interview progressed, we uncovered hidden gems:

his love for jazz, his passion for debate, and his journey to Lincoln High.

"Last question," Alex said. "What advice would you give students?"

Mr. Johnson leaned forward, his voice filled with conviction.

"Take risks, explore your passions, and never lose curiosity."

We left the conference room, inspired.

"That was amazing," Alex exclaimed.

I grinned. "We got some great quotes."

Back in the library, Emily awaited our return.

"How was the interview?" she asked.

Alex summarized, and Emily listened intently.

"I've got some ideas for the layout," Emily said.

As we worked, our synergy grew
