They were endless. It didn't matter how many men I took down, a new opponent came from somewhere to take the empty places.
They said it would have been a quick and easy job, after which I could finally leave. They didn't tell me that Italian mafia was involved. At this rate, it is only a matter of time before police arrives... Damnit!
"COME HERE, ALEXSEY!" Yelled one of the Italians, shortly before getting stabbed by a Russian. How the hell does he know me? It was a bloody mess, and I was right in the center of it. I took a knife from one of my aggressors and slit his throat, but my fists were beginning to hurt and it was harder and harder to keep up with all those waves of opponents.
It was then that I saw her. During one of the few moments while I could catch my breath, I glanced at the street on the other side and saw Nina. Our eyes met for a split second, hers filled with horror.
I dropped the bloody knife, terrified; why on earth was she there? All could have happened to her but good things there, the least she could get was a knife stab.
In that moment, I had already done the worst mistake of the day. There were countless horrible men in that mess, but one in particular stood out for his ruthless violence: it was Vlad, and he was sneaking right behind Nina with a baseball bat in his hands. As he got closer, he was staring right at me with a murderous gleam in his eyes, his gaze was piercing my very soul.
He raised his bat up above a clueless Nina, and my heart stopped. I tried to ran towards her, to call her name, but it was all in vain. The bat hit her head with a tremendous strength, and the dull sound it made silenced everything else around. Her body fell to the ground, but I couldn't hear it. The world around me had gone completely silent, even my voice wouldn't come out.
"Did you know her, Alexsey?" Vlad asked me, a victorious grin across his face... No, it wasn't victory that was lighting him up: it was a hideous sadism, a feeling of satisfaction in watching the color drain from my face.
"You knew damn well that once you're in, there's no way out! What were you expecting, to leave with your woman?" Vlad asked, pointing at Nina's body with his bat. "Well, I guess you have to change your plans and book a graveyard; she worked perfectly as bait to lower your guard!" At those words, someone from behind shot me in my right shoulder. My right shoulder? Really? And to think I made it clear that I'm lefty...
"You, instead, knew damn well you could shoot me only once," I hissed in response, throwing my knife at the gunman and killing him, "and you should have made him aim at my head." After that, my mind went blank, and all I can remember are blood and screams.
