"Then you shouldn't speak ill of Layla either. She did nothing wrong. It was my uncle who sent her a marriage proposal without anyone's knowledge," Roderick said, his jaw clenched in frustration.

Sylvia's sharp eyes narrowed as she retorted, "Well, that's on you. If you hadn't cheated on Layla, she never would have married Lucius. You couldn't control your own desires, and now you're trying to stake a claim on your ex? It's pathetic." She crossed her arms, her tone dripping with disdain. "I don't want to work with you. I'd rather handle things alone than deal with you as a partner."

"Good. I don't want to partner with you either. You aren't any better than me. I know how you tried to defame my uncle for your brother's death," Roderick snapped, his voice laced with bitterness.

He hastily stuffed the bills into the checkbook. Without another word, the two turned on their heels and stormed off in opposite directions.
