After finishing their supper, Lucius and Layla took a quiet stroll in the garden.
"Let's go back. I'll hold you until you fall asleep," he murmured, reaching out to her with open arms, a faint, reassuring smile softening his usual seriousness.
Layla gave him a grateful nod. "I've already packed your bag," she whispered, as they returned indoors. Once inside the bedroom, she climbed into bed, settling beneath the blanket. He closed the main lights, leaving only the bedside lamp casting a warm glow over them, and then slid into bed beside her.
With a tenderness that made her heart ache, he wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close. She rested her head against his chest, feeling the steady rhythm of his heartbeat.
"I'm worried about how you'll manage without me," Lucius murmured, his voice laced with concern. His fingers gently combed through her hair, a soothing gesture that steadied them both. "It's a difficult time for you."
