Chapter 229, Welcome to Those Looking for a Fat Gain

Inside the squad's resting room.

Two breaths rose and fell.

Slater's forehead was stuck with strands of hair, lying back on the desk, lightly biting a lock of her long hair, letting out a soft hum.

Wu Heng exhaled heavily, lying on her smooth body.

He leaned near her chest and whispered, "Stay here, I'll take care of you."

Slater, a little dazed, slowly regained her senses, looked down at the man lying on her, and gave a gentle smile.

She held his head close to her chest, gently stroking his hair, "It's not that simple, without status, where would we even belong?"

Her tone paused slightly, her voice even softer, "I have you in my heart, it's not like I can't see you."

"Why don't you stay a few more days!"

"I'm a steward here, if I leave for too long, it will cause...," Slater had just started speaking when her body arched slightly upward again, letting out a stifled moan.

Grabbing his hair forcefully, she said in slight annoyance, "You're still at it."

Wu Heng smiled, lifting his head without answering.

The sound of passing staff chatting came from outside, startling Slater into immediately covering her mouth.

Feeling a bit dizzy, she urged softly, "Hurry up, Yuli will be back soon."

"Then say something sweet."

"Say what? Lovey-dovey stuff? I can't say that." Slater turned her head to the side.

Wu Heng turned her back, looking at her as he said, "Call me Husband."

Slater whipped her head around, embarrassed and angry, "Are you crazy!"

"Hurry up, someone's going to come soon." Wu Heng urged.

Slater's mind was in chaos, but eventually, she tightened her arms around his neck, pulling him closer. Her red lips brushed against his ear as she softly said, "Husband, hurry up."

Wu Heng pressed a deep kiss down.

Slater's face flushed even redder, "That's not what I meant by hurry up!"

......

Half an hour later.

Yuli pushed open the door and came in, glancing at the open window, asking, "Where's my aunt?"

Wu Heng sat at the desk, translating a comic, and looked up, "She just went out, she'll be back soon."

"Didn't she say she was rushing to attend the banquet? Why did she leave?"

"From what she said, she's not going anymore. She's planning to check out some shops in the outer district later. Your aunt is thinking about opening a store in the city." Wu Heng said.

"Huh? What kind of store?"

"A branch of Golden Cat." Wu Heng closed the comic book, continuing, "Now that I'm the city lord, your aunt plans to open another Golden Cat in the city. You can come visit whenever you like."

Yuli's eyes lit up with excitement, "Really?"

Just then, footsteps sounded outside the door.

Slater walked back in after freshening up.

She glanced at Yuli and Wu Heng, her expression calm, "I'm not going to the banquet. Come with me to check out the shop location."

"Oh, okay!" Yuli immediately ran forward, grabbing her aunt's arm, "Auntie, you're really going to open a shop here? But aren't the people here supposed to be wild and unruly? Won't it cause trouble?"

Slater glanced at the orc staff passing by.

She nudged Yuli with her elbow, saying, "Don't talk nonsense."

"Oh... really opening a shop?"

"Yes."

......

The carriage passed through the inner city gates.

It stopped in the eastern outer district, in front of a central building.

"How about this place? It's the largest building in the two districts." Wu Heng jumped off the carriage and introduced the place.

In front of them was a circular building. Due to its height and unique shape, it stood out as a landmark in the entire outer city.

Its spherical roof was made of multi-colored glass, and sunlight shining on it made it glisten like a rainbow.

The entrance was a tall arched stone door, designed for the local orcs.

Both the door height and stone pillars were particularly massive.

Though it wasn't as grand as the Guilds or consortium buildings, it was one of the more distinctive and grand structures in the outer city.

Slater and Yuli both looked up.

They were clearly a bit surprised.

"A church?" Slater asked.

"A magic item store. It used to sell magic materials and tools. After the incident with the Warhammer Party, they lost interest in running the business, so they sold the deed to me." Wu Heng explained.

Opening a magic store isn't something just any power can do.

Usually, large merchant guilds set up chain shops in various cities.

The building in front of them had obviously taken considerable resources to construct.

That's why Slater initially thought it was a church.

Slater looked up again and then glanced at Wu Heng.

With that kind of investment, leaving him in charge of security and taking 40% herself didn't seem like too much.

The group stood at the entrance, looking up, when a few figures approached quickly from behind.

Leading the way was the middle-aged foreman who had renovated Wu Heng's house.

"Captain, what can I do for you?"

Before coming out, Wu Heng had asked the Guild staff to notify this foreman.

He had been satisfied with the previous renovations.

He planned to entrust him with this project as well.

Wu Heng introduced, "This is the steward of Blackstone Town. She plans to renovate this building. Listen to her needs, and if she's satisfied, you can handle it."

Hearing that the distinguished woman before him was a steward from another place.

The foreman became even more respectful.

He immediately said, "Good day, Steward. I was the one who renovated Captain Wu Heng's residence. Whatever you need, feel free to tell me."

Slater nodded, "Alright, let's go inside and take a look together."

"Sure."

The interior of the building was quite spacious as well.

The walls retained the original wallpaper and wainscoting, and the floor was made of colorful tiles.

In the outer city, having a building decorated like this.

Showed how much the original store had valued the place.

Compared to the Golden Cat in Blackstone Town, this place was much larger, and the architectural style was also quite luxurious.

It could fully meet Slater's needs.

They walked through each room with the foreman.

Slater gave soft instructions, while the foreman followed behind, jotting down all the requirements.

Occasionally, he offered his own suggestions.

After a brief exchange.

The group walked out of the building again.

Before boarding the carriage, Slater told the foreman, "I'll be in the city tomorrow morning. Submit the plan to me then. If I'm satisfied, you'll handle the construction. If the plan isn't sufficient, we'll discuss further."

The foreman immediately replied, "Understood, I'll have the plan ready by tomorrow morning."

"Good, thank you." Slater got onto the carriage.

Yuli and Wu Heng followed suit.

The carriage began moving slowly, heading away.

......

They had dinner at a nearby tavern.

The carriage returned to the Guild.

Slater declined Wu Heng's invitation to visit his house.

She and Yuli returned to the residence arranged by the Guild.

Wu Heng could only take his skeletons and head back to his place.

After the maids had dinner.

He practiced sword techniques with Fireblade for a while before returning to his room to rest.

......

The next day, in the Guild's rest room.

Wu Heng, Slater, and the foreman sat together discussing the renovation plan for the Golden Cat.

The foreman explained non-stop, a thin layer of sweat covering his forehead.

Slater was quite satisfied with the plan.

After the foreman finished, she added some of her own suggestions and requirements.

Wu Heng didn't have many demands, except for requesting the use of solar panels.

After all, if they wanted to use electric lighting indoors, the wiring and solar panels needed to be set up in advance.

The three of them talked for the entire morning.

The final plan was agreed upon.

Slater nodded, "That's settled. How long will the construction take?"

The foreman calculated in his mind, "About 15 days. I'll try to speed up the progress."

The building's structure didn't need altering.

It was mainly about adding furniture and repairing some damaged areas.

Slater looked at Wu Heng, saying, "Alright, give me a heads-up five days in advance. I'll bring people over by then."

"Got it."

After the discussion ended.

The foreman left, and Slater and Yuli prepared to leave Rentam City.

Their visit was mainly to retrieve a rare item and see Wu Heng.

The carriage was parked at the Guild entrance, and Wu Heng had various snacks and comics loaded inside.

Yuli's eyes sparkled, "Are all these for me?"

Wu Heng smiled, "The snacks are in the box, along with some new comics. Most importantly, I translated some common phrases for you, so if there's something you don't understand, you can check and figure it out."

"You're so sweet." Yuli said.

Ahem~!

Slater, standing beside them, coughed lightly, interrupting their conversation, saying, "The carriage is full of this stuff. You'll have to run back."

"I'll sit outside."

Slater glared at her before turning her gaze back to Wu Heng.

She said, "If anything comes up, write me."

"Okay!"

The two women boarded the carriage.

Yuli opened the window and waved goodbye to him.

The carriage slowly moved away into the distance.

......

After seeing them off.

Wu Heng returned directly to his place.

Just as he thought, Rentam City was no longer assigning tasks to his squad.

Not taking tasks was something he had always hoped for.

But now, he wasn't so sure if it was a good thing.

No one was home.

The three maids had gone out to handle their own affairs.

Wu Heng sat on the couch, enjoying the air conditioning for a while, then opened a portal and headed to the zombie world.

The factory area was still quiet.

There were no zombie corpses in the clearing.

He walked to the warehouse entrance, reopened the portal, and commanded his skeletons to start transporting wires and solar panels to prepare for the Golden Cat renovation.

The skeletons moved back and forth, transferring equipment from the warehouse to another world.

After everything was moved, Wu Heng checked to make sure nothing was missed.

He pulled out the key and closed the portal.

......

Li Yanhong's convoy had still not returned.

Wu Heng sat in the military truck left behind and turned on the vehicle's radio.

After a crackling sound of static.

The voices from various shelters came through.

"Do the gold and silver jewelry count as a crafting fee?"

"I'm far from the county. By the time I get there, will all the food be traded away for nothing?"

"The repair shop's set its sights on Captain Ma's armored vehicle, and the exchange terms are pretty high."

"What's the point of an armored vehicle? You think you can fire shots in the city? The zombie horde will greet your whole family in no time."

The radio was filled with chaotic discussions about trading materials with the repair shop.

After some noisy chatter.

A familiar voice came over the radio.

"Gold and silver jewelry are priced by the gram. There's plenty of food, and as long as you come this year, there's no way it'll run out. The armored vehicle is just an option, not a necessity. Also... any brothers looking to score big are always welcome."
