Chapter 214, The Necromancer Repels the Warhammer Party
Stacks of flyers filled with text were moved into the hotel.
Wu Heng pulled one out to take a look.
The ink on this one was darker than the ones Andviel had written, probably due to the type of ink used.
Overall, it was pretty good; the only thing missing was some illustrations.
Wu Heng had considered including images of himself killing Skull-Crusher but decided against it after some thought.
Being too flashy might not be a good thing.
Li Yanhong asked, "Does the print look okay? I checked, and the symbols seem pretty clear."
To the people of this world, the content on these pages would just look like a bunch of symbols.
They wouldn't understand it at all.
Wu Heng didn't bother explaining and simply replied, "Not bad."
"Hmm, if you need more later, I can have some more copied."
"No need, this should be enough," Wu Heng said.
In Rentam City, there weren't many literate people, so these flyers would mostly rely on word-of-mouth for distribution.
They would counter the rumors circulating in the Inner City.
After Qiangzi and the others finished moving the papers, they waved and left.
Li Yanhong carefully took out six potion bottles from her backpack, saying, "Alchemist One gave these to me, and I brought them directly."
[Strength Enhancement Potion]
(Description: Made from body parts of mutated creatures, this potion enhances and improves the body of living beings, with a small chance of awakening bloodline power.)
A potion made from a Level One corpse core.
Last time, while rescuing Wang Ke's grandmother, they were attacked by a herd of mutated bulls.
After killing them, they did get quite a few corpse cores.
Wu Heng hadn't returned for a while and had stockpiled some.
There were no new types of potions inside, so it seemed that the Level Two and Level Three corpse cores were still being researched.
Wu Heng took one bottle and handed it to Li Yanhong, storing the rest, "Here's one for you. Drink it now, so if anything goes wrong, I can help."
"Alright!"
Li Yanhong popped the cork and downed the potion in one go.
Under Wu Heng's watchful eye, Li Yanhong's body began to redden, with bulging veins showing on her wrists and neck.
But after just a second or two, all the abnormal phenomena disappeared.
Her skin remained its wheat-like color, but it became smoother and more delicate.
Li Yanhong did two high knee lifts in place and said in surprise, "I feel lighter, like I'm a few years younger."
"It seems to have worked."
"Yeah, it's amazing."
This was her second time taking a corpse core potion, but the effects were clearly more pronounced than the first time.
Her entire demeanor seemed to have changed.
After a while of adjusting, Li Yanhong calmed down from her excitement, leaned in to kiss him on the cheek, and said, "Thank you. When I become Wonder Woman, I'll make sure to protect you."
"Uh, I'll thank you in advance then, Wonder Woman."
After adjusting to the changes and feeling completely fine, Li Yanhong got back to business, "The modified bus is almost ready. I'm planning to bring a group of people here to scavenge for household supplies."
Previously, they had found a batch of buses at the transit station.
After bringing them all back, Li Yanhong had them fully modified.
Now that the modifications were complete, she planned to bring more people, some to continue transporting supplies and others to start scavenging for cups, plates, basins, and other household items that were still scattered around the residential areas.
Wu Heng nodded, agreeing with her plan.
With the Warhammer Party dealt with, order was slowly returning to the city, and his general store needed to reopen.
This world was like a resource-rich warehouse.
As long as he handled it properly, these common household items would be enough for him to make a profit, and it would be a long-term, guaranteed business.
After thinking for a moment, he added, "Find a safe spot nearby to establish a base here, so people can live securely."
"How about the transit station? The yard is big enough for parking, there's a wall for protection, and the office building is spacious enough to be turned into temporary housing," Li Yanhong suggested.
That place seemed like a good option.
"Let's go check it out now."
The two of them headed out with the skeleton squad, making their way to the transit station.
They killed the nearby zombies that had wandered over and reclaimed the area.
After walking around the yard, it really did seem like a suitable place for a base.
They had the skeletons set up a perimeter around the transit station.
Then they returned to the hotel and moved all the household supplies over.
The items inside would work perfectly as dormitory furnishings.
The skeletons lined up and worked until dusk, and Qiangzi and the others refilled the convoy with supplies.
After saying their goodbyes, the convoy quickly departed.
Wu Heng spent some time converting more corpses, then opened the portal and returned to his residence.
......
In the first-floor living room.
Two maids, dressed in casual clothes, sat on the couch practicing their writing.
Minnie was quite bright, but due to her upbringing, no one had taught her how to do this.
She was learning to recognize characters quickly, but writing was proving to be a struggle.
Holding the pen tightly, her fingers stiffened, and she broke out in a sweat.
"Ow, ow, my hand's cramping, it's cramping, it hurts so bad!"
Minnie clutched her hand, wailing.
"Why are you gripping the pen so hard? If you don't learn to write, you'll break the pen instead," Andviel remarked from the side.
"I...I just can't seem to do it right!"
They continued chatting.
Wu Heng came in with his skeletons, carrying the flyers.
"Master, should I start preparing dinner?" Minnie immediately asked.
Wu Heng glanced at her, "Yes, start preparing, and make sure to bring out Wen Mansa's share too."
"Okay!" Minnie threw the pen aside and dashed off to the kitchen.
Andviel took one look at the escaping bunny girl and followed her into the kitchen.
Soon, Wen Mansa also returned with her skeletons.
The four of them sat together, eating and discussing the situation outside.
After dinner, they chatted for a bit.
Minnie practiced her punches, then Andviel continued teaching her how to read and write.
Wen Mansa pulled Wu Heng into the bath with her.
......
In the bath.
Wu Heng held Wen Mansa in his arms, enjoying the moment.
Wen Mansa spoke softly, "Elno has sent people everywhere, spreading rumors against us. We've already captured more than 50 people by evening. If this keeps up, the two districts will fall into chaos."
Wu Heng gently stroked her curvaceous figure, feeling the exaggerated curves of her waist and hips.
He said, "I've prepared some flyers. Tomorrow, you should arrange for people to hand them out, preferably having literate folks read them out loud to the others."
"Flyers? What are those?" Wen Mansa turned her head to look at him.
"They describe how we killed the Warhammer Party, as well as the details of capturing wanted criminals before. Get more people to talk about it and maintain order in the city," Wu Heng explained.
"Alright, I'll arrange it tomorrow. Should we also send people to their districts?" Wen Mansa asked, tilting her head back.
Wu Heng thought for a moment, "Find a way to send some flyers over, but don't send anyone."
"Okay, I'll get on it first thing tomorrow," Wen Mansa nodded.
"Good."
......
The next morning.
Wen Mansa left with her skeletons, each of them carrying a stack of flyers.
There was a lot to do today.
Besides distributing the flyers, they needed literate people with good speaking skills to read them out in public places.
In the Spikes Gang, not many people were literate.
Literacy wasn't exactly a priority when selecting new gang members.
Finding a group of such people would require some effort.
A while later.
After getting his things ready, Wu Heng left his residence and headed for the Guild.
Several mercenary groups had already gathered today.
Standing in front of the Guild's notice board, he scanned the posted missions.
But the missions hadn't been updated in the past few days, so the mercenary groups just came and went, quickly leaving.
Steward 'Gomez' and Vice Steward 'Eskel' still hadn't shown up at the Guild.
The entire Guild was running on the self-discipline of its remaining members.
Wu Heng wasn't too concerned about their safety, but he needed the Steward to confirm the kill of the wanted criminals.
He had even rehearsed his lines, but they still hadn't shown up.
Heading to the squad's break room, he found his three team members already seated inside.
When Wu Heng entered, they all stood up to greet him.
After exchanging a few pleasantries.
The swordsman, Gaul Bory, spoke up, "Captain, I looked into it yesterday, but it seems there's no noble in the Inner City by the name of 'Momlo'."
Momlo was the name that the rogue 'Burke' had revealed through [Speak with Dead] before his death.
It was also the name of his behind-the-scenes handler.
Wu Heng had asked Wen Mansa to investigate the matter.
It seemed Gaul Bory had remembered the name and had been quietly looking into it as well.
"No such person?" Wu Heng raised an eyebrow.
Getting someone placed into the Guild should have meant this person had a certain level of influence in the city.
It shouldn't be that hard to find!
"It's possible they're using a fake name or a codename. I didn't find anything under that name," Gaul Bory said.
Wu Heng nodded and added, "If you have any leads, try looking into City Hall. Whoever got him in must have left some clues."
Gaul Bory wasn't someone he could trust completely.
But at least he was a member of the Guild.
His personality seemed to reflect a traditional knight's code, always following the rules of the Guild.
Letting him investigate wouldn't hurt; worst-case scenario, he wouldn't find anything, and there were no secrets he could leak.
"Understood!"
They sat and chatted for a while.
Wu Heng then said, "Let's go on patrol, and after that, head home."
......
Outer City, East District.
On a stone pedestal by the roadside.
A middle-aged man, dressed in gray linen with slightly curly hair, stood straight on top, shouting loudly, "An evil necromancer is using the lives of ordinary citizens as hostages to force the city lord to cede the East and North Districts. All the residents are being treated like livestock, subjected to vile magical experiments.
......We must unite, we must resist his rule..."
With each loud shout.
A growing crowd gathered below, murmuring amongst themselves about what the man was saying.
Just as the man's rhetoric was stirring up the crowd's emotions.
Someone came up from behind, holding a sheet of paper, shouting even louder, "Guild intelligence! It has the true story of how the Warhammer Party was defeated. Come take a look!"
