In the midst of a chaotic city, where people were squeezed by various crises and wars, Izzan Min-hoo sat in the corner of a cramped room in a cheap inn. The neon lights from outside seeped through the cracked window, casting a gloomy glow on his face. Job application papers were scattered on the floor, most of them already rejected. Despair gnawed at his heart, leaving deep scars behind.
"Why is this happening to me?" Izzan muttered to himself, resting his head in his hands. The noise of the crowd outside was loud, yet he felt isolated amidst the hustle and bustle.
He glanced at a job brochure lying on the table. "International Volunteer Work," it read, offering an enticing salary. Beneath the text was a small note: "Join for new experiences and extraordinary career opportunities!"
Izzan, who had run out of options and money, felt compelled to give this chance a try. Although hesitant, he decided to call the number listed. The voice on the other end of the line sounded professional and reassuring.
"Welcome, Izzan. We are very pleased that you have decided to join our program. We are confident you will find this opportunity very valuable," said the voice. "We will send you further details and the address where you need to report."
With a heavy heart, Izzan followed the instructions. The next day, he arrived at a large building that looked more like a medical facility than an office. A man in a suit greeted him at the entrance.
"Welcome, Izzan. My name is Alex, and I'll be handling everything for you. Let's start with some paperwork and a quick health check-up," said the man with a friendly smile.
Izzan followed Alex to the registration room, where he was asked to fill out forms and undergo a series of medical tests. Everything felt normal, though slightly intense. Izzan began to feel that something was off when one of the tests required a far more thorough examination than usual.
"This is just a standard procedure," Alex reassured him. "All program participants have to go through this check-up."
After the examination, Alex showed Izzan to a room that resembled a dormitory. "This will be your living space during the program. You can rest here before we begin," he said.
Izzan felt a little more at ease, though still skeptical. He lay down on the bed, his thoughts swirling. That night, just as he began to drift off, he suddenly felt nauseous and dizzy. A small needle pierced his arm, and before he could react, his whole body went limp.
Darkness enveloped him.
When Izzan woke up, he wasn't in the dorm he had been in the night before. Instead, he lay on an operating table in a sterile white room. The cold metal surrounding him and the bright lights overhead made him feel like he was in a horror movie. Strange voices echoed around him.
"Ah, he's finally awake," said a man in a white coat, wearing a protective mask over his face. "We'll start the procedure shortly."
"Procedure? What's happening?" Izzan tried to speak, but his voice came out weak and broken. Panic began to set in as he noticed unfamiliar medical equipment around him.
"Don't worry," said a woman beside him in a calm tone. "This is part of the program you signed up for. We're going to implant a neuron device that will enhance your abilities."
"A neuron device?" Izzan tried to grasp what she was saying. "What is all this? What's going to happen to me?"
"This device will allow you to complete missions with high efficiency," the man explained. "However, you must follow our instructions. There are some risks involved with this procedure, but we assure you, you are in safe hands."
Izzan felt deep uncertainty and fear. For the next few minutes, he felt pressure and strange sensations as the neuron device was implanted into his head. The continuous "beep... beep..." sound haunted him, growing louder as if it was a threat waiting to explode if he couldn't control his emotions.
Once the procedure was complete, Izzan was taken to a dark room. The feeling of oppression and confusion worsened as he realized how trapped he was in this situation. The "beep... beep..." sound felt even closer, echoing in his head, as if ready to detonate at any moment.
He had no idea what would happen next, but one thing was certain: his life had changed forever, and he had to be ready to face whatever was coming.
With chaotic thoughts and overwhelming uncertainty, Izzan realized that his first mission was just around the corner, and his life now depended on the device that had just been implanted in his brain.
All he could do was wait and hope that his fate in this new world would provide answers to all the uncertainties troubling his mind.
