Chapter 2 - Chpater 2: Julia Starcrest

Julia and Summer grew up as childhood friends in the same close-knit community, their families well-off (mortals) and deeply connected.

As the years passed, their bond evolved from friendship into something much deeper—a love that seemed unbreakable. They were inseparable, sharing countless tender moments and unforgettable nights together, memories that could fill volumes of storybooks.

But everything changed when Julia turned 16 and awakened her Base Evolution Gene. She was gifted with the rare and coveted Mechanical Archangel Gene, a discovery that captured the attention of people far and wide. This extraordinary gift led to her immediate recruitment into a prestigious international Gene Academy, a place where the most elite evolutionary talents were trained.

Meanwhile, Summer was left behind in their small community, attending a regular college. Frustration consumed him as he failed to awaken any Evolution Gene of his own. His dream of becoming a Geno Explorer—traveling across the vast galaxy and beyond—seemed increasingly out of reach. People around him often reminded him that his bloodline lacked the talent necessary for such a gift, and it felt like the universe had denied him his greatest desire.

Despite the growing distance between them, Julia and Summer fought to keep their relationship alive. Julia, now part of the elite evolutionary class, remained insistent that their love could withstand the challenges. But time, as it often does, began to erode the connection they once shared. The demands of their separate lives slowly pushed them apart, like two boats drifting in a stormy sea.

Their once-unbreakable bond was tested by the very dreams that had once united them, and the love that had been their anchor now struggled against the tide of change—now was about to be broken.

"Wh-why?" Summer's voice trembled as he backed away from Julia, his heart racing erratically. The news had hit him like a hammer, leaving him shaken to his core. "Is it because I couldn't awaken as an Evolver, just like you?" His words were heavy with the weight of his insecurities, the realization that he might lose her shattering his heart.

Julia's eyes welled up with tears as she saw the pain in Summer's eyes. She couldn't hold back her own emotions any longer, and the tears began to flow freely down her cheeks. "I am s-sorry, Summer," she choked out, her voice trembling with guilt and sorrow. "Forgive me. It's just… it's getting really hard for me. The thought of seeing you grow old and die while I remain in my youth—it's a horrific thought. I can't bear it. I thought it might be better for us to break up now, before it gets even harder."

She wiped her tears with trembling hands, trying to compose herself as she turned away from him. Her heart was breaking, but she knew she had to walk away. "And please, don't chase after an impossible dream," she said, her voice soft but firm. "Focus on your studies. Your dad and mom are worried about you. They just want what's best for you."

With that, Julia walked towards the car where her friends waited, their expressions a mix of amusement and disdain as they watched Summer. They regarded him as if he were nothing more than an ant, something insignificant they could crush without a second thought.

As Julia's car began to pull away, Summer, still in a state of shock, scrambled desperately, crawling on the ground.

"Wait, Julia! Don't go! I can do it! Please, just give me more time!" he screamed, his voice cracking with desperation.

But his cries were swallowed by the noise of the car's engine, and Julia, now inside, couldn't hear him. She sat in the backseat, sobbing uncontrollably, lost in a swirl of bittersweet memories, unable to face the harsh reality of their parting.

As Summer's actions grew more frantic, a tall boy with a lean build, Azaroth Malakar, watched with a sneer of disdain. Without warning, he stepped forward and delivered a sharp kick to Summer's face, knocking him down with ease.

"Ouch!"

Blood mixed with tears as it trickled from Summer's nose, his cry of pain echoing through the empty space. In his powerless state, there was nothing he could do to defend himself against an Evolver like Azaroth.

"Dullblade," Azaroth sneered, looking down at Summer with contempt. "It's better you forget about her. She's mine now." His voice dripped with arrogance as he taunted Summer.

"Remember my name is Azaroth Malakar. Not that it matters anyway. We're leaving this planet far behind. You and I will never see each other again, worm."

With a cruel laugh, Azaroth turned his back on the defeated Summer and climbed into the car where Julia was seated, her tear-streaked face turned away, unaware of what had just transpired outside.

As the car drove off, leaving Summer lying on the ground in a mixture of pain and despair, the weight of reality settled heavily on him. His dreams felt shattered, and the girl he loved was now out of reach, pulled into a world he could only watch from a distance.

From a distance, an old man with gray hair observed the scene, his expression one of quiet contemplation. "Who says men don't cry? They're all fools," he muttered, seemingly speaking to no one but himself. His eyes remained on Summer, who lay defeated on the ground, the weight of heartbreak and humiliation pressing down on him.

Suddenly, the old man's communicator wristwatch buzzed, signaling an incoming call. He glanced down and pressed the device, causing a holographic image to appear before him. The image showed a gentle and refined man, dressed in an immaculate office suit, his face lined with concern.

"Sir," the old man greeted with a respectful nod.

"How is my boy's condition, Edmond?" the man inquired, his tone filled with fatherly worry.

"Young Sir knows the news already. Young Ma'am Julia came and delivered it herself. His condition... it's not good, Sir," Edmond responded, his voice tinged with empathy. As he spoke, he activated the device to project a live feed of Summer, still lying on the ground, bruised and broken.

The man on the other side of the call sighed heavily as he watched his son. His heart ached at the sight of Summer's pain, but he maintained his composure. "Bring him back home," he instructed. "His mother is worried."

With those words, the connection ended, leaving Edmond to carry out the order. He looked at Summer one last time before moving to retrieve the young man, knowing the road ahead for him would be difficult, but hoping that, with time and care, he would find the strength to rise again.
