Chapter 9: A Drunken Moment
Jerry stumbled into the coffee shop, whiskey-fueled and reckless. He spotted Roxie in the corner, her eyes sparkling in the dim light.
Without thinking, Jerry staggered over to her table, his words slurring together. "Roxie...you're so beautiful...why do you always smile at me?"
Roxie's eyes widened in surprise, but she didn't pull away. Instead, she reached out and took Jerry's hand, her touch warm and gentle.
Jerry leaned in, his lips brushing against Roxie's in a soft, sloppy kiss. It was a moment of pure instinct, no thought or reason involved.
But as their lips touched, Jerry's senses began to return. He remembered where he was, who he was with, and what he was doing.
He pulled back, his eyes locking onto Roxie's, a mixture of shock and embarrassment on his face.
Roxie's cheeks flushed pink, but she smiled softly. "It's okay, Jerry. I've been waiting for you."
Jerry's mind reeled as he stumbled backward, his heart racing with confusion. What had he just done?
As he turned to leave, Roxie's voice whispered in his ear. "À bientôt, Jerry."
French for "see you soon." A promise, a hint of what was to come.
