Chapter 10 - Chapter10: The promised date

Takayama Shinzui stood atop a skyscraper overlooking the sprawling cityscape of Tokyo. The neon lights below shimmered like a sea of stars, but his gaze was distant, contemplative. To the pantheon of gods and goddesses, he had ascended to godhood—a perception he allowed them to hold. In truth, his power far exceeded theirs from the very beginning. Yet, he chose to feign ignorance, continuing his role as the quiet observer.

Emerging from the realm of conceptual emptiness, Shinzui and the divine beings returned to the mortal world. The gods decided to resume their human lives, ostensibly to watch over Shinzui. Little did they know, they were the ones under observation.

In a secluded garden adorned with cherry blossoms, kazuki, the Foundational God, gathered the deities. "Let us continue living among humans for the time being," he suggested, his eyes reflecting wisdom beyond ages.

Youichi, the God of the Unknowable Plane, furrowed his brow. "Why persist in this charade now that our goal is achieved? Shinzui has surpassed even you in strength. Should we not focus on refining him further, teaching him the etiquette of the gods?"

Kazuki smiled subtly. "Precisely why I wish to remain among humans. I desire to understand Shinzui more intimately."

Youichi's expression softened into a quiet acceptance. "Is that so? Then we have little choice but to accompany you for now."

The assembly murmured in agreement. One by one, they departed, leaving Shinzui alone with Reika Akiyama, the Goddess of the Fantasy Plane. Her emerald eyes met his, a hint of mischief dancing within them.

"Shinzui," Reika began hesitantly, "would you be interested in... going on a date with me tomorrow?"

He regarded her calmly. "I find myself free now that things have settled."

A radiant smile spread across her face. "Wonderful! Let's plan for tomorrow. I'll come to your manor at 10:00 a.m. sharp. I'm looking forward to it."

Shinzui offered a slight nod, a rare, gentle smile touching his lips. "As am I."

As they parted ways, Shinzui walked through the quiet streets back to his manor. The moon cast a silvery glow over the traditional Japanese architecture. Entering his home, he reflected on the day's events. "The gods and their games," he mused. "Amusing, indeed. Yet, the time will come when my true nature must be unveiled—but that is a concern for another day."

He retired to his room, the minimalist decor exuding tranquility. Lying down, he closed his eyes, embracing the stillness of the night.

The morning sun filtered through the shoji screens, casting soft patterns on the wooden floor. Shinzui awoke to the gentle warmth, glancing at the clock—9:30 a.m. With practiced efficiency, he bathed and dressed, choosing attire that was both formal and casual: a crisp white shirt, a deep green blazer, and tailored black and white trousers. By 9:50 a.m., he was ready.

At precisely 10:00 a.m., a delicate knock resonated through the manor. Shinzui approached the door, his demeanor composed yet curious. As he opened it, his eyes momentarily widened.

Reika stood before him, a vision of ethereal beauty. She wore a flowing blue gown that complemented her silver hair, which cascaded gracefully over her shoulders. White leggings accentuated her slender form, and her eyes sparkled like jewels.

"Are you ready for our date?" she asked softly, a hint of anticipation in her voice.

Shinzui regained his composure. "Yes, let's go. I've been waiting for this—or perhaps we've both been waiting."

She tilted her head slightly, a playful smile tugging at her lips. "Oh? Is that what it seems like?"

He offered his arm, and she accepted it gracefully. Together, they stepped out into the world—a deity and an enigma, embarking on a journey through the tapestry of human experience.

The streets of Tokyo buzzed with life. Vendors called out from market stalls, children laughed as they chased one another, and the aroma of street food wafted through the air. Reika glanced at Shinzui. "It's fascinating, isn't it? The vibrancy of mortal life."

He nodded thoughtfully. "Experiencing it firsthand is different from merely observing. There's a depth to human emotions that's intriguing."

She looked at him keenly. "That's why I wanted to spend this time with you. To explore these sensations together."

They wandered through art galleries filled with modern and traditional works, strolled along the Sumida River where cherry blossoms danced on the breeze, and visited quaint cafés tucked away in hidden alleyways.

As the day progressed, Reika felt a warmth growing between them—a connection that transcended words. "Shinzui," she began hesitantly, "there's something different about you. Something... profound."

He met her gaze, his eyes reflecting the infinite depths of the cosmos. "There are many things that even the gods do not perceive."

She smiled softly. "Perhaps that's what draws me to you."

The sun began to set, painting the sky with hues of gold and crimson. They found themselves atop a hill overlooking the city, the lights flickering to life below.

Reika sighed contentedly. "Today has been... wonderful."

"Indeed," Shinzui agreed. "An illuminating experience."

She turned to face him fully. "I hope we can do this again. There's so much more to explore."

He inclined his head. "I would like that."

As night enveloped the city, the two deities stood side by side, gazing out at the world they both sought to understand—each carrying secrets, each searching for meaning in the delicate dance of existence.
