At the hospital, Edward and Jennie Mayfair were standing over Ruth who was sleeping. She had been sedated and there was an oxygen mask attached to her nose through which she was breathing. She was pale and she suddenly appeared to be so much worse than when they last saw her.
Jennie was sniveling and Edward was frowning, but the trophy for most worried relative in the hospital room went to Collin who was pacing back and forth nervously. He was quiet so nobody knew what was on his mind but if they could pry it open, they would hear him blaming Phoebe for Ruth's illness.
The doctor that had called them walked into the room along with two interns that usually shadowed him. He was holding a patient chat with had Ruth's name and other details. He walked closer to the Mayfairs and addressed them in a serious voice.
