Chapter 36 - The Fool

(Third Person POV)

"H-How dare you?!" Alicent shouted as she slapped Aegon across the face, "How dare you do this?! Do you have any idea how badly wounded your own brother is because of you?!"

Aegon stood there, not reacting to the blow he had just received, his face pale as he merely looked down. He did not say anything, knowing that any response might solicit more ire from his Mother.

Alicent was usually never like this, angry and physical with her children. She had always tried her best to raise them with as much love as she possibly could, preventing any sort of mistreatment. But when it came to them getting hurt, would it be anyone, she sometimes lost control.

Alicent panted as she looked at her son, who did not respond at all, "You say nothing?" She asked, "Do you not know that this is not a game, Aegon? You are playing with your brother's life, your blood!"

Aegon looked at her, his cheek finally showing the red mark from the slap, "I am sorry, Mother..." He said softly

Alicent looked over to Aemond, who lay on the bed, covered in bandages. His face had just been tended by the Grand-Maester and his leg was already wrapped up. The boy prince had fallen asleep, due to the tonic given to him by Orwyle. Despite the severe injuries he suffered, his life was not at risk.

King Viserys stood next to the Grand Maester, who was finishing up the treatment, his face serious. He did not say a word, merely looked at the sight of his son, lying down and covered in bandages.

On the other side of the bed, Helaena stood, looking at Aemond with worry. Next to her, the youngest prince, Daeron, stood. He, too, had a really worried look on his face.

He looked at Helaena, "Is Aemond going to be alright, sister?"

"I hope so..." Helaena said softly

Alicent sighed and looked at Orwyle, "He will be well, right?" She said, "Grand Maester...."

Orwyle straightened up and held the medical tools in his hands, "Yes, he will." He told the Queen, "His eye is lost, however.....Prince Baelon did right in cauterizing the wounds....it prevented any rot and in the long run, any serious effects....there will be a scar...on the eye and on the leg."

Viserys took a deep breath, "Thank you, Orwyle." He said as the Maester bowed slightly and walked away

Daeron looked at his father, "Where is Baelon?"

Viserys did not take his eyes off Aemond, "Taking his anger out, I hope." He said simply, "And doing what I told him to do."

Alicent looked at the King, "Do you seriously think he will do that?"

Viserys slowly nodded, "I told him he is not to return until it is resolved...." He said seriously, "And that is exactly what he is going to be doing right now...resolving it."

Aegon looked at Viserys, "F-Father..." He started, "I am sorry...."

Viserys walked over to his son, "Baelon is one thing." He said, "But I will not have another son acting a fool. Do I make myself clear, Aegon? The difference between you and your brother is clear. Aemond is a boy, Aegon. Do you understand what I am saying? A. Boy."

Aegon looked down, "I know...." He said, "I..."

"Enough." Viserys said, "You are barred from flying until you make it right."

Aegon looked at him again, "H-How do I do that?"

"Figure that one out yourself, son." Viserys patted his shoulder

The King then walked past him and out of the room, leaving the rest of the Family by themselves.

Helaena looked at Aegon but didn't say a word. Aegon had a really guilty look on his face, completely regretting what he had done.

Alicent sighed and looked up, "Gods, thank you for sparing my boy..." she said softly

Aegon turned around slowly and walked out of the room quietly.

Daeron saw this and frowned, "Will Aegon be okay?"

"He will." Helaena said, "He needed this. A reminder that his actions have consequences."

"But Baelon can be worse." Daeron said softly

"Baelon thinks of the consequences, my sweetling." Alicent told him, "But so long as nobody else is hurt, he cares not about them. You know that."

************

"How is the boy?" Daemon asked Viserys as the King sat down on the chair inside his chambers

"His eye is lost...." Viserys said before letting out an exhale, "But other than that, he will be fine. He needs rest."

Daemon nodded, "He is a Targaryen." He said, "Strong. He got that from his father."

Viserys scoffed, "Stop trying to cheer me up, brother." He said, "This is my fault. I raised my sons to think it is okay to perform such buffoonery."

"Well....Baelon is the same...or worse..." Daemon said

"But you and I both know that Baelon is more than capable of handling himself." Viserys said, "Outside of riding Balerion, he is one of the best fighters in the Realm."

"Aye, that is true." Daemon said as he crossed his arms, "But your other boys....meh, not so much."

"Aemond and Daeron show interest in swordplay." Viserys said, "Aegon does not. He is too relaxed...I wonder if it's too late....."

"This could be a teaching moment." Daemon chuckled, "To show that fool that not everything is a game. Baelon, as free-spirited as he is, can get serious when needed...."

"For now, I thank the gods for not taking my son from me." Viserys said, "I just hope my other son does the right thing."

As he said this, the doors opened and Baelon walked in, wearing his armor and holding his helm in one hand and a sack on the other, a large stain on the bottom of it. The Prince had a serious look on his face as he stopped in the middle of the room, looking at his father and uncle.

Daemon raised an eyebrow, "Huh..." He said

Viserys stood up and looked at Baelon, "You..." He said, "You know that you should not have ret-"

"It's resolved." Baelon cut him off, "Our problem is over."

Daemon smirked slightly, "And that means.....?" He started

"Skagos is aflame," Baelon said as he lifted the sack, "Well, the majority of it. I allowed them to evacuate to a safe portion of it. The Leader known as The White-Mane surrendered after a quick fight. I was surprised he survived the first onslaught.....but as punishment for his idiocy...."

Baelon flipped the sack, dropping something on the ground from it.

Viserys and Daemon both saw that it was a severed arm, which was curled up in the sack.

The Rogue Prince scoffed, "Well well...." He said, "That.."

"His son, the one I killed in the North, groped my sister." Baelon said, "I found it appropriate to give the appropriate punishment to his Father. He claimed that beheading was a harsh one.....so, well, you know...it's too late but who's going to complain? Not the Skagosi, most of them are dead."

"I.." Viserys said, "I did not think you had it in you."

"Well, father, sometimes I believe you don't think at all." Baelon gave him a slight smirk,

"But you surprise me as well."
