Chapter 17 - GATHERING

*At the same moment in Dawnchester*

-someone knocked at MEGANE's door for a long time, just as she was dressed in her pyjamas, her hair a mess, and was finally getting ready to open the door.

'What? Didn't anyone ever tell you that when you don't get an answer when you knock on the door, it's to tell you that this individual doesn't need to see you?' I'm sleepy. And I'm on holiday, damn it!

When she opened the door, she saw that it was in fact her colleague.

- Is that you, Jack? What are you doing here in the morning? Our unit is due to assemble at 3pm.

- Good morning MEGANE, I'm glad to see you're in good health.

- What's up? You've just come to wake me up from my morning slumber to say hello? Tell me quickly what you want and what you've come to do.

-I'm here because we still haven't seen Klaus.

-Klaus? He must be enjoying himself like everyone else in the group, and as far as he's concerned, he's probably out having fun with lots of women, otherwise I'll have to say good night and go back to my nap.

When Jack went to close the door, he stopped it with his leg.

MEGANE: Why do you insist? Or do you think I'm hiding Klaus in my house?

JACK: No, it's not that. It's not like him to just disappear without telling anyone.

- Did you at least ask the other members of the band?

- I asked the other members of the group this morning, and you were the last person I asked where Klaus was.

- And does the boss know about this?

-Yes, he knows.

-And how did he take it?

- He told me to ask the rest of the group, and if everyone doesn't know where he is, that means he's been kidnapped or...

- He's gone and made a big mistake and we're going to have to help him to get out of it.

- That's why you have to let us in, because the sun is burning us out here,' said a voice standing next to Jack.

- Eh? Who's there? She couldn't see anyone, because she'd half-opened the door. She couldn't see the other person hiding behind the door. When she opened the door fully, she saw...

- Abel? Are you here too?

- Not just him, but Jack woke us all up to go and talk to the chief,' Angèle replied.

- Oh, you're here too, Angèle? And why are you all in your overalls?

To get in.

As they enter her house, she tells them to make themselves at home.

-JACK: 'I didn't expect you to be so tidy, it's quite the opposite with your behaviour.'

-Shut up, Jack, or we'll throw you out, because that's where you belong, you scumbag!

(JACK leaves in search of respect, he's just had the shame of his life).

Megane: If not, I'll go upstairs for a bath and I'll get back to you.

Abel: OK, don't hang about.

*After 1 hour his friends decided to abandon him in his house because they had waited too long*.

Running towards his friends to catch up with them along the way.

-You bastards, what right do you have to abandon me after I've welcomed you into my home?' says Mégane in an enraged voice.

-ABEL: SORRY, but we've got a friend to find. Instead of waiting for you for over an hour, we decided to leave.

-HEIN? ARE YOU TALKING NOW, ABEL? HOW MANY TIMES HAVE I HELPED YOU TO DEFEND YOURSELF?

-It's nothing against you, but even Angèle didn't take too long to get ready when she'd just finished her treatment,' replied Abel.

Angèle: I told you to start by taking MEGANE, but you preferred to think that I'd be too unfit to be ready, so well done you.

-And if you think I've taken too long, just wait and see how late this old fart will make you.

-Who are you calling an old fart, kid?

- General JONES? How come you're here?' asked MEGANE in surprise.

- I'll deal with your insubordination later, but let's get a carriage and we can discuss it later.

JACK: A carriage we could all fit into would be extremely expensive and all that just with a conversation.

- Or would you prefer us to do it in a bar where we'd be more comfortable with a good atmosphere?

-His whole team: We're against the idea, chief!

-In any case, whether it's the first or the second option, it's MEGANE who's going to pay for her insubordination.

MEGANE: WHAT?

His friends: We support this idea, boss!

- The bastards!

They got into a carriage they had hired for transport.

Angèle: You can thank God for my convalescence, it's much too tight for me to breathe properly. But there were other carriages much bigger than this one.

-MEGANE: Shut up, did you want to do away with my finances or what?

-JACK: I'm regretting my weight training with my extra 90 kg, it's too tight for my height.

-Plus, it stinks inside. I'd better smoke to hide the smell. Don't you think? (asked Abel.)

- And I thought everyone had had time to get ready,' says Angèle.

-General Jones: the best way for a soldier to prepare is to have his weapon ready next to him so that he can use it at any time, especially when he goes to pick up his companion.

-The rest of his team and the driver: so he's the one who hasn't washed.

-JONES: So, to sum up: Klaus has disappeared and no one knows where he is?

-MEGANE: Yes, and there's no chance of him being captured by bandits, he's too careful for that.

-Jones: And starting with his extreme caution, what could have made the most cautious man in this kingdom forget to be cautious?

-Angele: Emotions, chief!

-JONES: And when does our dear Klaus lose it under emotion? Jack follows after Angel.

-JACK: Klaus often loses control when it comes to his homeland or the actions of ARIMA TENBATSU or DOROTHY.

-JONES: Well MY BOY! And what do you think a highly patriotic soldier would do back home? ABEL, you're on.

- He would visit his family and spend a lot of time with them. Then he'd go and see the landmarks that have marked his country. As he's an orphan, I think he'd rather visit the landmarks of his childhood. And as we're his only family, he went to the place where we first met.

-Exactly, leave Abel to the others; Megane to you.

-MEGANE: So he went to the place where the arcane tournament takes place. That's where he must be.

-JONES: Don't jump to conclusions. Suppose Dorothy had moved the tournament to some distant and dangerous place. That's what I learned when I arrived at the site of the arcane tournaments.

MEGANE: I don't understand chief, the high-risk places are the battlefields and it's absurd to take young people there and ask them to go and fight the draugrs.

-No, and when you have such a talented generation and you want to put them at greater risk for the sake of greatness, go ahead and do it all together, my children!

-ABEL, JACK, ANGELE, MEGANE : in a dungeon ??????

-Angèle : But that's absurd! Is she trying to get them killed? Let's go and follow Klaus to try and reason with Lady Dorothy and stop this before it's too late and the apprentices have reached the dungeon. Your title gives you the weight of it, General.

-JONES: That's true, but Klaus would have been back knocking on the door asking for me by now.

-ABEL: So it's already too late and they've realised that talking any further to Lady Dorothy would be pointless.

-JONES: And?

-ANGELE: And maybe the apprentices have already got in and there's nothing left to do but follow them.

-JACK: The tournament started yesterday, didn't it? Don't tell me this is the dungeon I'm thinking of? And why are we on the southern edge of the capital?

- You've got it, boy, and the apprentices and Klaus are in the dungeon of Anaraki, or as it's known, the lair of the silent scourge.

-JONES: And you know, this dungeon is reputed to be one of the most dangerous we've ever seen. So please don't risk your lives. There's no way I can get out of this dungeon alive. If someone wants to come down, then I won't take it amiss. Just tell the driver to stop.

Megan raised her hand and told the driver to stop.

The others agreed and respected her choice not to go to the dungeon.

-JACK: Don't worry, we'll be back in no less than a week Megane, go and get your strength back.

-MEGANE: What? Who told you I wanted to go back?

-ABEL: But the boss said straight away that anyone who was afraid of risking their life could tell the driver to stop.

- Ah, his monologue? I didn't hear any of that, I just told the driver to stop and comb my hair properly, it was a mess before I did the exploration in style. So I was suffocating inside. That's it, and for this situation, all I know is that it's more of a mission to find our comrades, but also to rescue the children and leave. This will show that all the children who agreed to enter this dungeon are better than me, who has several years' experience in the army.

-Good answer, MEGANE. You finished the routine well. You got 20/10 and I'm removing your penalty. I'm going to pay for the transport, and even the return journey (says the general shouting).

-Angèle: You should have taken a bigger coach than this one.

-JACK: Besides, it won't be as much fun without Mégane. Driver, speed up the car!

-Yes, sir.

The carriage continued to speed along.

* Thirty minutes after arriving at the dungeon and getting off the cart.

-Aha! It's great to be out in the fresh air,' said Abel as he stretched his limbs.

Angèle: Look, there's a blacksmith's camp and a tinker's for creating weapons just in front of this dungeon.

-JONES: OK, I see. Ask him if this is really where Klaus and the army apprentices came. I'm done with the driver. 'Otherwise, driver, we thank you for accompanying us so far.'

-Don't you want me to wait for you until you get out?

-No, I don't want to waste your time and money, and I'm not even sure I'm coming back.

But you're going anyway?

- Yeah, I've got a kid of my own and lots of other apprentices, so I've got no choice. Let's just say it's an occupational hazard. Well, goodbye friend.

- Goodbye and come back alive, I like Megan's sense of humour,' says the driver as they head back to the capital.

-JONES: Well, what else does it say, Angel?

-The handyman confirmed that this is the place where the apprentice kids entered yesterday. There were over 300 of them there and they saw someone enter last night at around 3am.

He must be talking about Klaus.

Looking at the big door of the dungeon, General JONES called JACK.

- Yes, Sir!

- Use your stone and impose your mark on us already.

- With no problem BOSS, Abel recited the following incantation, joining his two hands together: 'Hare's step, hawk's eye, you shall not escape my gaze, wolf's smell, hare's ear, wherever you go I shall be on your heels, cheetah's step, raven's flight, even in the air you shall be my prey, elephant's memory, I shall not forget my home and my men'. Then he touched all his team and then touched the ground before the dungeon. 'That's it, guys, we're good to go.'

- JONES: I think your weapons are ready?

-ANGELE: Yeah, I even brought Klaus's.

-Megan: God, what idiots.

'It's all right, let's go my children, follow me and let's be heroes again,' said the captain as he and his men dismounted.

*A few minutes later, someone lands in the dungeon.
