Chapter 22 - Chapter 21

[Andre's POV]

"Hello puppy, how are ya!?" The loudspeaker from the enemy SynthMech resonated in the area.

"Damn, he sure is noisy! How can I turn my loudspeaker on?" Andre was navigating the control panel in front of him. "I am sure that there's no need to respond."

"Not responding to me, eh?" the enemy SynthMech pilot said from the loudspeaker of his unit. "Very well. I will skip the formalities and proceed with the main event!"

With the enemy unit brandishing its weapon, Andre anticipated an attack that was coming.

"Damn, this is not good!" Andre thought and equipped his SynthMech unit with the power baton.

The enemy unit dashed toward's Andre's and tried to slash it by the throat. Andre's quick reflexes made his unit dodge the attack, leaping away from the enemy.

"Impressive!" the enemy inside his SynthMech unit said. "However, I believe you are a rookie based on your movements. Let me show you how to dance!"

The enemy SynthMech dashed towards Andre and circled to his back. The swift movement of his enemy surprised Andre, who was trying to process in his mind what had just happened. A swift kick landed on Andre's SynthMech unit.

"Urgh!!!" Andre groaned, experiencing the shock from the enemy's attack.

Andre's unit barely landed on its feet and turned, blocking the enemy's attack on time. His unit threw a punch in response, but the enemy dodged it.

"Impressive!" the enemy remarked and leaped away. "For a beginner, you are not bad. I am not losing to someone like you, though!"

"This guy!" Andre expressed annoyance towards the enemy.

"Let me play with you!" the enemy said on his loudspeaker and circled at Andre.

[Dorothy Dawn's POV]

The sniper fire silenced, but Dorothy and the extraction team remained pinned on the same location. A bullet hit one member of the extraction team between his eyes, killing him. The captain was getting impatient, but he couldn't do anything at the moment.

"What now, ma'am? Where's the SynthMech unit you have bragged about earlier?"

Dorothy was silent, looking at the location of Andre's SynthMech. "We have a capable pilot. I swear he will come to our aid."

"Are you sure, ma'am? If not, we will have to force our way out!" The captain said to Dorothy.

The captain looked at his teammates, and one of them nodded. "You know what to do, sarge!" The captain said to him and approached Dorothy. "Ma'am, we can't wait any further. We have to move. We'll have to drag you even if you don't want to."

"What do you mean by that? Captain?" Dorothy asked.

"Covering fire!" the mercenary carrying a light machine gun said.

As the machine gunner sprayed bursts of fire towards where they believed the location of the enemy snipers were. Bullets whizzed towards him.

"That's the signal, move!" The captain said and everyone in the team followed one by one.

They moved five blocks away. As the extraction team stopped inside another abandoned building. They rest a bit and Dorothy was catching her breath.

"This is Andre, I mean Vanguard. I apologize for the delay! I got into a fight." Andre's voice suddenly resonated in the room where Dorothy and the extraction team were hiding.

"This is Dorothy Dawn. How are you doing so far?" Dorothy asked Andre.

"Not good. I am currently fighting an enemy SynthMech suit of an unknown model. It is giving me a hard time." Andre replied.

Dorothy downloaded the files from Andre's data into her smart phone. After the download, she saw the unit and then she replied. "It's an FD2-Stalker, a fast yet weak SynthMech model from the Union of Newfoundland."

"Thanks for the head's up, ma'am! However, I can't catch it with my unit. I feel like I am moving too slow." Andre replied.

"You don't have to. I believe you have weapons there that could cause him harm. Use it wisely!" Dorothy advised him.

"Roger, ma'am!" Andre replied.

"That's your pilot?" The captain asked Dorothy.

"Yes, it is. He will come to our aid and…" the captain interjected Dorothy, saying, "Sorry, ma'am, I am not confident of him nor the way he sounds. Are you sure he's a seasoned SynthMech pilot?"

"We'll have to place our faith in him, captain." Dorothy confidently said, taking her eyes from her smart phone. "We will just have to place our faith on him."

"Very well, ma'am. If you say so." The captain sighed and then called one of his men. "Corporal, I need you to scout ahead. I will remain here with the captain. The sergeant will assist you."

The corporal nodded and headed with the sergeant. The captain looked at Dorothy. Before he could speak, he and Dorothy heard a loud explosion from the outside. Something powerful caused the sound.

"What could that be?" The captain asked.

Dorothy smiled and replied, "Our trump card has won!"
