Chapter 1 - Prologue

The bio-mechanical department of Satsuma Heavy Industries at their headquarters in Bangkusay, Sierra Teresa in Cornalia, received new deliveries, including new SynthMech models, with a special emphasis on an undisclosed unit.

The sirens sounded when the undead were released from their confinement. The horde filled the huge and empty testing field at the size of two football fields. They looked harmless as they meandered across the field.

The Cotolmist, a drug containing parasites that hijacks the victim's nervous system. It turns the person into an undead after forty-eight hours. Without controllers, they are harmless, but if there is one nearby it would make them turn feral.

The undead cannot feed and rely on their remaining fat reserves. If they use up their bodily fats, they would end up dropping like flies. However, the danger of their saliva, which holds venom ten times stronger than cyanide, cannot be ignored.

The undead once feral also mob on sources of sound. They attack anything within the vicinity. Since their sight is not functional, they cannot identify what their target were.Using the horde is a risky move in the battlefield. Most of the times, they were used as fodder in the meat grinder. Serving as screening force by the attackers against enemy defenses. They could also be used in desperation to overwhelm the opposition as well.

However, at their wake. The undead are dangerous as they damage ecosystem and other lifeforms from their venom and diseases. The League of Nations condemned their use against nations or any legitimate army.

Meanwhile, at the observation room in the Headquarters of Satsuma Industries in Bangkusay, Cornalia. Scientists and technicians were busy with their tasks. They were focused on their computers and equipment, observing their research and experiments. The white wall reflected the bright light. The director was located in the middlemost seat.

He stood up before his panel and turned off his computer. When someone knocked on the door from the outside, he was expecting someone. It was Kyle Gardner, a test pilot.

"You just arrived in time, Kyle!" The director said and continued, "I am here to observe your first assignment."

Townes escorted Kyle to the window. Looking below, Kyle's eyes widened when he saw the horde of undead from below. Counting on their numbers, they were a hundred of them. He thought of it as a punishment for his bad behavior and sweat form his forehead ran through his cheeks.

Light punishment may be justifiable for a slight misconduct. However, making him a bait for the undead was uncalled for. He thought and flinched at what he saw. Looking at his reaction, Townes laughed being able to predict what Kyle had thought.

"I heard you were a bad boy, Kyle!" Townes chuckled and continued, "You don't have to worry about the undead. That's not your purpose here."

Kyle sighed in relief and asked, "What is it? Does it have to involve dealing with the undead?"

"Yes!" Townes replied seriously.

Kyle's hands shook, and fear was evident on his face. Seeing his test pilot in fear, Townes calmed him down and said, "You don't have to worry. We have tools for you to deal with them!"

Townes called a technician, who nodded at his signal. He rushed towards where the director, Townes, was standing. "Take him to the testing room!"

After the order, the technician escorted Kyle. As Kyle looked around, he was surprised to come across the schematics and illustrations on the computer. He saw the image of the new prototype on the screen.

Looking at it, he was impressed by how the new prototype looked like. It looked sleek, impressive and slimmer compared to its predecessors. Kyle wondered if he got the chance and what it takes to operate the unit.

"That's the Type-02 "Hayabusa". One of the top of the line SynthMech suits made by our own Satsuma Heavy Industries!" The technician said.

The impressed Kyle couldn't move his lips and stared at the company's new creation. The weapon that would cause fear and chaos in his enemies. With that suit, he knew he would be unstoppable knowing his abilities. Thinking of the undead horde from before, they will only be fodders to him combined with Hayabusa's capabilities.

"I know what you are thinking, Kyle! We still need to run some test before you can test the "Hayabusa"". The technician advised him.

"I know!" Kyle replied with excitement in his tone, eager to test the new SynthMech.

"Good! Let's head to the testing room. We will run all the checks we need." The technician said, and the two went to the testing room.

After passing all the tests. The technician took Kyle to the storage facility where the Type-02 Hayabusa was stored. The SynthMech was placed inside a huge glass panel. Several wires were attached to it and gadgets were observing its stability. The suit looked like an enormous muscle suit.

"So this is the Hayabusa?" Kyle asked.

"Yes, Kyle!" the technician replied and handed Kyle an electronic pad.

"What is this?" Kyle asked.

"It's a waiver. You need to sign it before testing the unit." The technician replied and handed him an e-pen.

In signing the waiver, Kyle knew that the company will not take responsibility for any accidents or incidents testing the new SynthMech. However, Kyle's excitement overtook him and immediately signed the e-waiver.

"Good! I believe we are all set now, Mr. Kyle Gardner!" the technician said.

Kyle proceeded to the room where the testable unit of the Hayabusa was stored. It was in a hangar and was ready to be used. It was in a kneeling position. Looking at it, Kyle was surprised how big the unit was.

It was about ten feet tall, dwarfing Kyle, who was at six feet. The dimensions of the Hayabusa exceeded his expectations. Looking bigger compared to what he imagined it to be.

Kyle's confidence turned to nervousness as his sweat turned cold. His hands were shaking, showing his reluctance. As he climbed to the suit from the ladder, his heartbeat spiked.

The technician, noticing this, asked, "Are you alright, Kyle?"

"Y-yeah, I guess… so…" Kyle replied, hearing the technician from his ear pods.

"Our sensors say you are in emotional distress. Are you feeling nervous or do you wish to back out?" The technician asked.

"No, I am good!" Kyle replied.

"Better be!" the technician said.

After their conversation, Kyle entered at the hole in the suit's chest. The chest cavity closed after he entered. The suit realigned itself and stood up, taking a humanoid form. After the head transformed into its final form, the eyes looked like that of a cyclops.

The black skin, made of a new unknown material, covered the fleshy parts of the suit. It was fifty times harder than steel but as flexible as a human skin.

"To protect the suit, we will encase the vital parts with armor!" The lead technician said.

The armor plating was installed to the Type-02 Hayabusa. It was lighter compared to its class, but was fifty percent more durable.

"Good, I believe you are ready!" Townes said from his panel from the observation room.

Kyle fulfilling his dream to operate the latest SynthMech was on high spirits. His nervousness earlier faded. As his body got accustomed to the suit, the final adjustments were made.

"I believe you were installed with a neuro chip, correct? With its use, you can operate the suit without using manual operations." The technician briefed Kyle and adjusted the form of the chest cavity, making the suit look tighter compared to earlier. "You'll get used to it, Kyle!"

"I know, I ain't claustrophobic!" Kyle replied.

"Your test begins now!" Townes said from the observation room to Kyle and released the Hayabusa in the testing field continued, "Show the capabilities of the blade of Satsuma Heavy Industries!"
