Chapter 5 - Thoughts of Him

Two days had passed since Katherine's work at Lefty's Mart came to an end. She'd resigned immediately her shift had ended with the excuse that she had found a better job.

The boss had been reluctant to let her go but he couldn't keep her against her will so he let her go, wishing her the best in her new job.

As she lay in her bed, she suddenly remembered the figure who'd rescued her from a mission failure. Just minutes from the end of the mission, he'd come around to complete the mission's requirement and then vanished without a trace.

"He looked handsome too," Katherine murmured as she remembered how tall and good-looking he was. She still remembered it all like it was a few minutes ago.

"Who looks handsome?" Zeke asked with a frown. He stood in front of the large mirror close to the bed as he adjusted his red tie to fit perfectly on top of his black three-piece suit. Katherine had completely forgotten he was in the room until he spoke.

She raised her head and her brown eyes rested on his frame. Zeke wasn't ugly either. His brown hair was combed backward and oiled well so it didn't get rough. His black eyes looked like they could suck the soul out of whoever gazed into them. His height and build also made him look like a basketball player.

Zeke was well above average in terms of looks in general. Regardless, Zeke paled in comparison to him.

"You of course! Who else could be handsome besides you?" Katherine chuckled as she watched her husband get ready to leave for work.

It was a weekday after all and work hour was an hour away. Being the Human Resources Manager of Augustus Plants, Zeke almost never left home late. He always left an hour before work resumed.

Zeke grinned and moved closer, as though he wanted to plant a kiss on Katherine's head. "You're right." He said as he planted a knock on her head. "You should praise me more."

"Ouch!" Caught off guard, she exclaimed in mild pain, holding her head with a frown.

"I'm off to work. I don't want to be late. Also, make sure you prepare something nice for dinner." Zeke walked out of the room before Katherine even finished comprehending his words.

Tch! Annoying bastard!' She thought, watching him walk out without a single care for her. Katherine had been proud of his punctuality in her previous life which made her love him even more but now that she was back five years into the past with knowledge of the future, she knew why he always left early. She also knew he almost never arrived at work early. She knew a lot of things but she said none.

Just in time to take her mind off what had just happened, the system sent a notification.

Ding!

{Daily Bonus Acquired: $300}

She smiled as she noticed the amount received. Any money received was well worth it. She needed all she could get before she would begin her plans after all.

"Status." Being the only figure in the room, Katherine uttered a command to the system and a panel immediately popped up as she'd expected.

Looking at the panel, she smiled when she was her balance. She was $50 away from making her first $100,000 from the system and it had only taken her three weeks since she returned to the past.

Her last mission had granted her with a six times multiplier. After meeting the system's requirements of $3,500 for the mission, she'd received $21,000 from the mission's completion.

"Oh well, I better hit the gym today and make the balance a round figure," Katherine said to herself with a smile of accomplishment. It wasn't a small feat after all.

She got out of bed, completely forgetting the knock she'd received from Zeke a few minutes ago. Hitting the gym guaranteed her a balance of $100,000.

She got into the shower, washed up, and quickly returned with a towel wrapped around her chest. She opened her wardrobe and changed into clothes suitable for the gym.

Just as she walked toward the door, the doorknob twisted and someone walked in.

"Oh, you're still around," Stacie said with a forced smile. "I had no idea you'd be home. I came to see my brother, Zeke."

Katherine frowned upon hearing the word "Brother" from Stacie. She quickly corrected her expression and shook her head. "My husband left a couple of minutes ago. If you leave fast enough, you'll probably catch up to him."

Stacie however, didn't listen to Katherine's words. She stared at Katherine and asked. "Why didn't you go to work today? You were supposed to have left over an hour ago.

With a shrug, Katherine replied. "I quit."

As if expecting Stacie to ask another question, she continued. "The pay wasn't good and so, I met the owner and asked for a raise but he refused so I quit."

Stacie was at a loss for words. Nothing came to her mouth to say. Neither did any sentence form in her head. She simply stared at Katherine who walked back into the room to pick up her phone and headset.

"I see you won't be catching up to him. Anyway, I'm off to the gym. I'll be back in two or three hours." Katherine walked out of the room, leaving Stacie standing outside.

She placed the headset over her ears and began racing slowly toward the gym a few blocks away.

As she exited the family estate, racing toward the gym, she spotted a figure running as well. As he ran past her, he reminded her of the man she'd seen at Lefty's Mart.

Everywhere she went, she was reminded of him. However, what troubled her the most from their previous encounter was the fact that the figure really did feel familiar. She was very certain that it was their first time meeting but she felt like she'd seen him a hundred times over.

"If fate wills it, we'll probably meet again. For now, let's focus on hitting the gym and making that money." There was a smile on her face. A smile that mirrored the hundred thousand dollars she was soon to have.
