I open my eyes, finding myself back in the navy blue painted room, the room across Mitsuki's bedroom. Mitsuki hasn't left my side.
"I've been wondering, but how do you see or hear my side? Is it like a video screen or like real life perspective?" I ask Mitsuki.
"It's a real life perspective in my point of view being in the same room as you. It's almost like a virtual reality projection of your perspective. Does that make sense?" he says.
"Mhm, so it's like you're a ghost?"
"I guess so. I'm not dead though."
"I'm guessing everything has to do with brainwave frequencies."
"I assume so and theorize so."
"So how do we unlock the event?"
"Well, that's for us to go to sleep in-game and find out in the morning. We need to save our progress and sleep for the event to begin."
"I'm following your lead. So how do I sleep in-game?"
"You just close your eyes and stay laying down and wait for me to do the same. Because we are a duo, we'll have to save progress together. I've never had a starmate before but I've observed gameplays and other players do this."
"So you've played the game with other people before?"
"A little bit, but not all the time. I joined some people who were farming for items."
"Okay, then let's sleep."
He nods and walks to his bedroom and pauses to say, "I'll leave my bedroom open just in case something happens."
"Would something happen while we sleep?"
"You do realize this game is not like a normal simulator right? There can be monsters in the game too. It's an RPG."
"Oh, I thought it was just one of those peaceful world building simulators."
"This is an adaptive world simulator with fantasy and sci-fi mixed within it."
"Well, thank you for leaving your door open. You'll come save me if monsters come out right? I'm weak. I don't have any powers or stuff to protect me."
"I know. You told me it's your first time playing the game. I've got your back, don't worry."
"Thank you." I sighed in relief.
"I still don't understand what you mean by me being stuck with you since I can still interact with our real life world."
"I suppose you're technically not stuck. It's that I'm stuck with this game world and your point of view in the real life world. So it's more like you are my mediator with the real world. In the end, it's still me who is stuck, but you're stuck with me in a sense. OR rather, I'm stuck with you."
"That's a total invasion of privacy. The developers need to fix that."
"Not sure if they can fix this. The game uses highly advanced A.I. technology to adapt and update. Our issue is a little unique."
"Can't I just write an email or mail to the developers?"
"I'm not sure how they'll respond, but it might work."
"So enough of that. Let's sleep and start the event. We can write the mails another time."
I shuffle in bed trying to get comfortable in the bed as Mitsuki walks back into his room.
"Hey, you'll be here when I wake up right?" I speak a little loudly so he could hear me.
"I should be, yes. Why?"
"I kind of feel a little scared for some reason."
I hear him sigh. HIs footsteps grow a little louder and closer.
"Do you want me to sleep in the same room as you?"
"Yes, please. I know it sounds weird that I'm scared when nothing has happened yet, but I just can't shake this uneasy feeling. It's like I know what's going to happen but I actually don't know what it is."
"What do you mean?"
"Have you..ever had dreams of the future?"
"No."
"I do. They're like visions of days in the future, but they span into one dream or a few dreams. And normally, I have nightmares. I've been scared that one of these nightmares will come true."
"Well, I can't say I believe in you, but sometimes dreams are only dreams. Not every dream you dreamt came true has it?"
"You're right. A lot of my dreams didn't come true in real life. I'm just a little worried because I've never had a ghost like friend before or that you feel what I feel. I feel worried as though I might hurt you some how in some way if I'm not careful."
"Because I can feel your senses?"
I nod.
"I'm not too sure what will happen in the future, but you should try to live like you normally do. I'll let you know if something bothers me, okay?"
"Okay.."
"Ready to sleep now?"
"I still feel uneasy, but it's nice knowing I have someone nearby."
"I'm glad I can help in some way. Now let's sleep."
"Before we sleep, can you promise you'll be there when I wake up?"
"I promise."
I smile softly and fall asleep.
-A New Day-
Birds chirped in the distance as I slowly woke up.
The sunlight blinded me for a while. I rub my eyes then stare at the bedroom in shock.
Where was I?
My head was a little groggy as I sat up. The room grew about ten times larger and the walls were painted with baby blue flowers on a white background.
"Mi-Mitsuki? Where are you?!"
I panicked and slipped out of the bed.
"Mitsuki?"
"Gah!"
I tripped over something and looked at my feet.
It was a little boy with short black hair and blue eyes, wearing a gold cross around his neck.
I wonder if this is the event.
I whisper," Mitsuki? Is this part of the event?"
"Hm..?" the little boy yawns and stares across the room.
His eyes widen as I follow his gaze into the shimmering reflection of the huge mirror across us. I still had my short, wavy, black hair, and brown eyes but I was smaller now.
He starts to pat all over his body and face.
"Is this me? Wait, is that you Hina?"
I nod. We had been shrunk into the bodies of our child selves.
"Okay, this was more than I anticipated."
I nod more.
