"Terrans, you have received as your home world one of the most beautiful jewels of the universe : the planet you call Earth. But instead of protecting and worshiping it as a precious treasure, you've worked its destruction.
"Because you have misbehaved, we came from very far to teach you better ways…"
This was the message sent by the Exolibs in response to the query formulated by Gaia Inc. on behalf of the entire humanity. The same Gaia Inc. pretended they understood the answer and were able to translate it back in English with their newest AI.
"We have received the plaintive, desperate call of your planet. This is why we came. Your planet is deeply suffering. We can feel its pain. Its atmosphere is polluted. The waters are poisoned. The climate itself is unstable and on the verge of exploding into an unstoppable inferno.
"You are creatures endowed with a certain form of intelligence. And yet, you have chosen to use your intelligence not in favor of the Earth, but against it. Thinking about nothing else than your petty interest, you have shamelessly taken the resources of your planet without allowing it to rest. Treading upon lower forms of life, you have destroyed the environment and poisoned it. Greed has been your guide, not wiseness. You have not been thinking about the future, about ways to develop societies based on the natural devotion you should demonstrate towards your planet, or better said, towards the planet that owns all of you.
"But we, the "Exolibs" as you call us, will not allow one of the most splendid jewels of the universe be tarnished by your misbehavior.
"Until now, we have targeted and destroyed some of the bad places you've built. These constructions, made to exploit the natural resources, hurt deeply your planet. Of course we could destroy all of them. We could destroy all of you.
"But this is not how we like to proceed.
"We want you to learn. You may still be a primitive and impulsive race, but we believe in your capacity to understand. We hope you have the capacity to improve.
"If not, if you are unwilling to come to terms with the necessity of saving your planet, then we'll do what we'll have to do. We'll erase you completely.
"At first, we were almost surprised to find that you have no central authority who rules over you. Some government that reigns sovereign upon you all and that we could contact.
"As a barbaric people, you live without unity. No central government is able to dictate a unique and good law for all of you to observe.
"Your world is divided between many political entities. Each of them is competing against all others. Each of your tribes lives according to its own views, guided by its own self-interested goals. How can you hope to reach a balanced attitude towards your planet when every separate country competes for its resources against other countries, with no central authority to impose on them the right attitude?
"Of course, as every advanced civilization, we have reached unity a long time ago. We have a central government who rules our entire species. A high committee decides for us what's good or bad and directs our entire civilization. It is the brain that commands to the entire body of our society.
"This is the only rational way to function for an advanced civilization.
"And this will be your first task. You have to reach unity. Elect a central government that will rule all of your nations.
"When this is done, we'll have a privileged partner for our discussions, to whom we'll send the instructions.
"This world government of yours will be in charge of the salvation of the Earth.
"Achieve this, or else, be ready to disappear.
"But be conscient nonetheless that we're not doing this out of malicious intentions. We're not the biggest threat to you. You are the biggest threat to yourselves."
The same night, just after the worldwide broadcast of the Exolibs' answer, Elias Nordheim appeared once again on every screen of the world.
"Dear citizens of the Earth…" he began as usually.
"You have heard the message of the Exolibs to mankind. They've finally made clear what they're expecting from us.
"Until now, it was but speculation. Now we know with certainty what is at stake.
"You've heard it; there is no alternative. We have to change our ways.
"The Exolibs are a much more advanced civilization than ours. They have collected wisdom throughout the centuries, and they are willing to share it with us. How could we turn down such an offer?
"We have to listen carefully. They are right. It is time for humanity to grow out of the obscure periods of its irrational beginning.
"We have to become rational, enlighten creatures, more respectful of each other, and above all, more respectful of our planet, our dear mother, the Earth.
"Enough division among us! Enough competition!
"From now on, we have to work together to ensure our future. For us, for the next generations.
"But for all this, we need a central power that could organize our way of living. You heard the Exolibs; they've been very clear about that.
"United Nations are not enough anymore. The UN have failed to reconcile and rule the entire humanity. The world needs something else, something more effective.
"But my dear citizens of the world, worry not.
"Tonight I have come to announce you that we have agreed upon the best solution: the creation of the first world global government : the Government of Gaia.
"All the great countries of the Earth have already agreed to place themselves under the authority of the Government of Gaia. For all the reluctant countries, we will give them time. Until they finally figure out it's their best interest to submit to Gaia. The Exolibs have been very clear.
"I will myself accept the great honor, and the great responsibility, of becoming the first leader of the Government of Gaia. This, of course, as a temporarily solution, until regular elections are planned.
"During the next days, one of the first measures taken by the Government of Gaia, will be to shut down several oil plants located all over the world. Electrical power plants will also have their production slowed down. This will result in a decrease of the total available power. Some of you might experience some blackouts during the next days. But, fear not. This is what it takes to save the Earth. We all must learn to live according to the new circumstances.
"My dear citizens, I shall come back to you soon to give your more insight about what's coming next.
"Long live the Earth! Long live Gaia!"
