Chapter 50 - Gods Die Too

As Takumi stood gazing over the quiet horizon of Ardynia, a sudden, sharp pulse of cosmic energy surged through him—an alert, urgent and unmistakable, pulling him towards Battle World he was ready. He gathered his friends, those willing to join him on the journey, and with a flick he was there.

Takumi stood in the vast, desolate landscape of the Battle World, his mind racing. The air was thick with tension, the sky overhead a swirling mass of dark clouds and crackling lightning. Beside him stood Veronica, her eyes scanning the horizon, and Commander Ursar, the talking bear-bot who had somehow become both their ally and comic relief. Aqualis, the ever-serene mystical cat, padded silently at their feet, its glowing eyes betraying no emotion.

"Well, this place is… cheerful," Veronica muttered, gripping the grip of her revolver.

Takumi nodded, swallowing the knot of dread in his throat. "Cheerful or not, we're here to do a job. The gods called for backup, and it looks like we're the cavalry."

In the distance, the other gods began to appear one by one. Aurelia, the regal Goddess of Light and Justice, her golden armor gleaming in the storm's light. Titanus, the towering God of Strength and Earth, looking like a walking mountain. Nyx, the shadowy trickster, who grinned even in the face of a battle that would determine the fate of entire realms. Gaia, the gentle Goddess of Nature, and Ignis, the fiery God of Energy, both prepared for the fight of their lives.

They had gathered to fight an enemy that Takumi barely survived once before—hundreds of those monstrous beings, creatures of unimaginable power. This wasn't just a battle; this was a war.

"Takumi," Aurelia greeted him with a nod as she approached. "We're glad you came. This is going to be unlike anything we've faced before."

He forced a smile. "Wouldn't miss it for the world."

Before they could exchange more words, the ground beneath them trembled. The sky darkened even further, and a low, guttural roar echoed across the landscape. In the distance, they saw them—hundreds of those monstrous creatures, towering and powerful, marching forward like an unstoppable force of nature.

"Here we go," Takumi muttered, his hands glowing with energy as he prepared for the onslaught.

Veronica, gun drawn, stood at his side. "Stay close. We fight as one."

The creatures came faster than they expected, charging across the battlefield with terrifying speed. The gods sprang into action, their powers lighting up the sky as they clashed with the enemy. Aurelia led the charge, her sword blazing with radiant energy as she cut down foes with surgical precision. Titanus smashed through the ranks like an unstoppable juggernaut, each swing of his hammer shaking the earth beneath their feet. Nyx danced through the shadows, striking from unseen angles and leaving chaos in his wake.

Takumi fought alongside them, his energy blasts tearing through the enemy lines. He and Veronica moved as one, their attacks synchronized as they carved a path through the monstrous horde. Commander Ursar's advanced tech and Aqualis's mystical powers provided much-needed support, cutting down any creatures that got too close.

For a moment, it seemed like they had the upper hand. The gods were unstoppable, their powers weaving together in perfect harmony. But just as victory seemed within reach, something changed.

The monsters began to fall back, retreating as if they were being called away by some unseen force. The battlefield grew quiet, too quiet, and the air became heavy with an oppressive sense of dread.

Then, from the shadows, it appeared.

He was twice as big as the other monsters, his body crackling with dark energy, his eyes glowing with a malevolent light. His presence alone was enough to make the ground tremble. He was a force beyond anything Takumi had ever faced. His name was whispered among the gods: Nihlus, the Voidbringer.

Nihlus surveyed the battlefield with cold, calculating eyes. He didn't need to speak to make his power known. The gods around Takumi tensed, their confident postures faltering.

"Brace yourselves," Aurelia warned, her voice unsteady for the first time.

Nihlus moved with terrifying speed, closing the distance between himself and the gods in an instant. He didn't attack with wild abandon like the other creatures. No, Nihlus was precise—methodical. He struck Aurelia first, catching her off guard with a blast of dark energy that sent her flying. She hit the ground with a sickening thud, her golden armor cracking.

"Aurelia!" Takumi shouted, rushing toward her, but Nihlus was faster.

He cut through the gods with brutal efficiency. Titanus, the God of Strength, swung his hammer with all his might, but Nihlus caught it with a single hand and shattered it like it was made of glass. He slammed Titanus into the ground, the impact creating a massive crater.

"NO!" Nyx darted forward, his shadowy form flickering as he attempted to flank Nihlus, but the Voidbringer was ready. With a flick of his wrist, Nihlus unleashed a wave of dark energy that tore through Nyx, his body disintegrating into nothingness.

Gaia, trying to heal the wounded gods, barely had time to react before Nihlus was upon her. His massive hand closed around her throat, and with a single, crushing motion, her light faded.

The battlefield was a massacre. The gods, who once seemed so powerful, fell one by one. Aurelia, Titanus, and Gaia lay broken, their bodies lifeless on the battlefield. Only Ignis, Takumi, Veronica, and Ursar remained, but even their combined might felt like a candle flickering in a hurricane.

Nihlus turned his gaze toward Takumi, his glowing eyes filled with contempt. "You," he said, his voice like the grinding of stone. "You think yourself powerful. You are nothing."

Takumi barely had time to react before Nihlus was upon him. The Voidbringer's fist collided with Takumi's chest, sending him flying back. The impact was bone-shattering, and Takumi barely managed to regain his footing before Nihlus was on him again.

Takumi threw everything he had at Nihlus—blasts of energy, waves of power—but it was like throwing stones at a mountain. Nihlus absorbed the attacks, his expression unchanged. With a cruel smile, he reached out and grabbed Takumi by the throat, lifting him off the ground like a ragdoll.

"Your power is wasted on you," Nihlus growled. "Allow me to show you what true strength is."

Before Takumi could react, Nihlus began to siphon his power. The energy flowed out of Takumi like water, his strength draining away as Nihlus absorbed it. Pain like nothing he'd ever experienced before coursed through him, his vision blurring as his body weakened.

Nihlus laughed, a deep, guttural sound that sent chills down Takumi's spine. "You are nothing without your power, godling."

With a final, brutal motion, Nihlus pulled his fist back and punched Takumi with such force that the ground beneath them shattered. The blow sent Takumi flying—no, not flying—hurtling through the sky. He rocketed out of the Battle World, through the fabric of space itself, his body tearing through dimensions like paper.

Takumi crashed into Ardynia with unimaginable force, the impact so great that it ripped the planet apart. The ground crumbled, cities shattered, and everything—the people, his friends, the world, the very essence of the place—was obliterated in an instant.

As Takumi floated in the black void of space, surrounded by nothing but the silence of destruction, his body broken, his power drained, he realized the gravity of what had just happened. He had been defeated. And an entire world was gone because of it.

There was nothing left. Just him, floating in the empty abyss, powerless, on the brink of death, Takumi had failed.
