Chapter 37 - Newfound Strength

He found a bunch of orangutans guarding a star-shaped fruit with some glowing light and some bananas. The boy remembered how proactive each animal was about their food. He remembered the fight between the two apes with great vigour and compared them with the orangutans who seemed much weaker in comparison. As he thought of a one-hit KO he dealt with the crocodile and how he easily chased the foxes and the boars, his lust for battle won over and he wanted to try fighting them. He went near the orangutan to fight and snatch the fruits.

"Awoo woo woo"

Seeing another creature approaching their territory and their food, they produced threatening gestures and sounds to indicate him to leave. But seeing him ignoring them, the orangutans started circling the boy.

Bam

One orangutan directly went near the boy wanting to beat him but the boy sent him flying with his fist causing other orangutans to scatter.

Even though he was stronger, he was not as agile as the orangutans.

Whenever he went near other orangutans, they easily avoided him.

The more he tried to catch one of them, the more frustrated he became.

He realized that they could jump much higher than him, their grip strength was higher than his and they could use just a few fingers to hold onto a branch and easily use other limbs to maneuver among the trees.

After finding that the boy had great strength, these orangutans did not face him head-on. Instead, they distanced themselves from him and started throwing projectiles made up of stones and tree branches at him.

Since he was one person facing against a group of orangutans, he could not completely dodge their projectile attacks causing several injuries to accumulate on his body.

After observing that the strong projectiles only made so few small wounds on his body, the boy dodged some of them allowing a few to hit him as he started getting more and more closer to the fruits which was his first objective in fighting them.

Seeing this, the orangutans became more furious and started harassing him with leaves, seeds, etc anything they could find in their vicinity to not allow him to get those fruits.

Seeing a large barrage of attacks, he could not afford to ignore than and he had to evade as opening multiple wounds in his body would definitely weaken him.

He had to jump several times from one tree to another, hide between rocks, and continuously move to reduce the injuries from the projectiles.

He could not do anything to them while they were harassing him from time to time disturbing him from getting the glowing starfruit or the bananas.

After a long battle of running here and there, the boy finally got his hands on a bunch of bananas and a few star-shaped fruits in exchange for some injuries with blood flowing from them.

He quickly decided to escape to stop facing the harassment from these orangutans.

Though they were much more agile than him, they did not chase after him.

He went and rested on a rock in a safer area and thought of his previous battle.

He could not win against these orangutans despite being stronger than them which gave him a bad taste.

He quickly finished the bananas to replenish his stamina and observed the star fruits which were glowing with subtle light.

He found that this fruit was very different from other ones but he could not ascertain what was different in them causing a subtle glow around them. The only other fruit with the glow that he had seen was the fruit the two vigorous apes were fighting for.

He eventually ate the starfruits which were tasty as well as more nutritious and energy-providing which he enjoyed thoroughly.

The strange thing he observed was that some of the muscles in his hands and legs were feeling hot and sore after eating the fruits.

He did not expect them to be caused by the fruits, but he thought of the orangutan's projectiles as the culprit for this soreness.

He carefully spent a few days healing the injuries he received from that battle.

After the soreness subsided, he was amazed to find that the strength of his hands and feet was strengthened.

He thought carefully about this increase in strength. The only unique thing he did was that he ate the glowing fruits.

He realized the powerful hands and legs of the orangutan which allowed them to jump and maneuver with the strong hand grip was due to this fruit.

He also remembered how these glowing fruits were all guarded by strong animals like that ape.

He slowly started adapting to the ways of the forest, fighting different animals, eating different varieties of fruits, and sleeping on trees.

He even learned to make a hat made up of leaves to protect from the rain as well as making caves from observing the orangutans.

He also found several strong animals which were guarding a glowing fruit each.

He fought with many different animals like wolves, wild boars, foxes, and monkeys in the nearby territory.

He realized he could beat most of the animals except some strange ones and the one guarding the glowing fruits. which caused him to be arrogant and filled with battle lust.

He even tried fighting some of the strong animals guarding the glowing fruits in his hot-headedness but that only brought him several life-threatening injuries.

He had to employ all his skills and tricks just to escape from these strong animals.

He had to hide for several days from other animals to heal those wounds.

Those meaningless battles where he got himself severely injured also taught him many things.

Throughout the battles, he always tried to hone his perception to observe more and more about these animals to figure out their weakness to exploit them.

These repeated battles between life and death allowed him to gain the ability to roughly gauge the strength and weakness of the enemy.

With this, he also learned about various ways to escape the pursuits of these animals.

One time, he had unknowingly ventured far into the vicinity of a powerful animal, a tiger.

He did not realize he was targeted by the tiger until the tiger made his charge.

With the instinct he had gained from several battles, he barely escaped the grasp of the tiger claws albeit his waist was grazed by the claws causing a laceration.

He tried the jumping and maneuvering techniques he had learned from the orangutan with his strengthened arms and legs which allowed him to evade the attacks from the powerful tiger.

He went far from the tiger and observed him from a tall tree.

He realized that the tiger did not want to chase after its prey.

He decided to tail and observe the tiger. He followed him the whole day. He saw how several weak animals like deer could easily escape the grasp of the tiger and how the tiger could finally capture a weak rabbit as his prey.

He realized that the tiger had strong strength and sharp claws and fangs. But it was struggling to hunt its prey. The tiger always silently hunted his target hiding until the tiger could get near it and burst forth with a strong momentum. If the tiger caught the prey or injured it in his initial charge, it could get its food. But if the animal survived the initial dash full of momentum and strength, they could easily escape with their superior stamina.

He understood that the weakness of the tiger was that it was dependent upon pre-digested meat and blood that it got from other animals. Since it did not have a more complex and sophisticated digestive system like other weaker animals, it could not store energy in its body for a longer time meaning it had low stamina.

But the greatest weapon of the tiger was that it could bring forth great strength and momentum in a short time which can barely be resisted by other animals.

Watching the tiger closely for some time caused him to feel pity for this tiger.

This tiger mostly fed on other animals and rarely ever ate fruits to ease its digestion so the tiger had not realized about the glowing fruits and their strength-enhancing effects.

He felt that with the strength of this tiger, it could easily beat some animals that guard those glowing fruits and get even stronger but here it was struggling just to find some food.

Then, he started moving further away from the known territories, challenging every animal that he found and winning most of them.

After a certain distance, the animals were getting stronger and stranger many of whom were aggressive.

Once he ventured into a thick part of the forest where the ground was filled with high grass and trees were taller with branches wide enough to hide.

He heard a rustling sound and noticed a squirrel was quivering with blood flowing from its back which seemed to have been hit by something.

He looked around but could not identify the attacker.

He chose to hide and wait for some time but no animal came to collect the body of that squirrel meaning the hunt was not for food.

He felt this part of the forest was more weird and dangerous.

Seeing no other animal despite waiting for an hour, he ran deeper into this forest instead of retreating. This was the typical example of the saying "Newborn calves are not afraid of tigers".

Swish

As he moved swiftly deeper into this new area, he felt something hit the place where he just moved from. This increased his vigilance and he hid in the shade of a tree and observed all around him to find the source or the cause of the sound but he could not find any.

He again heard the sound of something being released so he immediately moved to the side.

But the strange thing was that the projectile was aimed exactly at the side where he moved. The projectile hit his arm causing blood to immediately flow.

He took the projectile out of his arm finding that it was a strange stone with sharp edges.

After getting hit by the projectile, he started moving in random different patterns to avoid getting hit by them.

Swish Swish

He felt many projectiles aimed at him coming from different directions and realized he was not dealing with a single enemy but multiple ones. The bad news was that the projectiles were coming in different batches meaning the enemies were using the projectiles one after the other.

He was hit by several different projectiles in various parts of his body which immediately opened up several wounds in his body.

He immediately thought of escaping so he started moving towards the area with more cover like trees and big stones where he used his agility and maneuvering techniques to escape to unknown areas.

Though his body was full of injuries, he finally escaped from those strange creatures that he couldn't manage to see with his eyes.

These animals, attacking from afar, seemed to lack great strength and were unwilling to leave their territory, so they did not pursue him.
