Chapter 1 - Prologue

*Gulp*

"What… What the hell happened here.." The officer's mouth went dry, as bile rose in his throat.

His trembling eyes looked at the dark red blood, seeping through and dying the floor and walls. The faint metallic smell of the blood permeating through the room

"... There isn't a single wound on their body " A feminine voice reached the officer's ear as his coworker observed the bodies.

Five bodies scattered throughout the room with blood leaking from their eyes and nose painted a disturbing portrait of death.

"What is the book doing there? "

The officer looked towards where the female officer gestured. The blood from all the bodies flowed towards the book, drenching its ancient pages red.

'Should I see what it is? ..' The female officer moved towards the book to pick it up.

"Clara!"

Clara shook a little surprised as she heard her name called stopping just a few inches from the book.

Another officer who had gone in to see if there were any survivors returned and called her with a pale look on his face.

"I-I-I found something, come with me"

She shook herself with a dazed expression and followed the officer to the other room.

*Blink*

"Am I hallucinating?" Clara's expression dropped as she looked at five books which were held mid air by chains before her.

She pinched herself, then continued to enter the dark room. Five books were held eerily hovering above the ground, each facing a different direction

The officer who had come to call her tried to unravel the chains which were holding the book above the pedestal.

The officer failing to unravel the chains with his hands did not matter as her attention was elsewhere. The middle pedestal was empty, a contrast with the others which had a book on them.

The chains which were supposed to hold the book, dangling helplessly to the side making its purpose void,

'Th- the books.. The one in the other room.." Clara's eyes widened as she recalled a similar-looking ominous book in the other room. She walked back to the door separating the rooms.

*Drop*

*Drop*

'Huh?' Clara turned back as she heard the sound of a liquid dripping to the floor. She followed the sound to its source.

*gasp *

The blood was dripping from the middle pedestal which had previously been vacant. She hurriedly looked back at the other room,

'It-It's still there… How?' The book was in the same position it had been in.

She turned back to look at the middle pedestal- There was nothing there.

"What the Hek-!" Seven shadowy hands shot out, constricting her throat and cutting off her words mid-sentence.

'Am I going to die here?…' Her eyes rolled back to her skull as she felt the slow loss of consciousness.

*Gasp*

A strangled scream pierced the quiet room, Clara shook awoke, gasping for air, her heart pounding.

*Ring*

*Ring*

The phone next to her bed was ringing. Massaging the slight headache she felt Clara picked up the mobile.

8: 00 AM ; 7 July 2007

"Hello?" Clara mumbled in a little drowsy voice still having a little aftermath from the recent nightmare.

" Officer Clara? I am sorry for calling a little earlier than usual but it seems that the department has found something related to the closed case"

"What? What closed case?" Clara mumbled with uncertainty as she didn't know which case he was referring to.

"The one which closed without any findings, The six books, Clara do you remember?"

"What about it?" Clara recalled the repeating nightmare she just had about that case.

"Two more people have been found in a dead state. "The quiet voice on the phone mumbled a bit incomprehensibly

"How?" Clara's dread deepened as she recalled the unease she had felt during the investigation.

"The only remaining member of the family, the elder son, has been found dead in the same way along with a woman "

"Oh.."

"The department wants to seize all the books and hand them over to the research division."

Clara frowned and scrunched up her eyebrows as she thought of something unpleasant.

"Why are you telling me this? I no longer lead the case, it has been closed for two years."

"They want all the information related to the case to be handed over and the case registration to be removed, so you need to do it, Clara." The voice softened, knowing the burden of digging through old files.

*Sigh*

"Fine, fine. I'll do it." Clara was reluctant and a bit annoyed to start the work earlier than normal, but it wasn't anything unusual.

"Thanks. Please do it at your earliest." With those parting words, the call ended, Leaving behind an annoyed Clara.

"What's the deal those damn books?"
