I ran as far as I could. My legs were trembling once I reached the outskirts of the capital. I spent an hour trying to find my way there. The amount of people was something I wasn't used to anymore. I wandered around aimlessly. I didn't bring food nor money. 'What am I doing?'
I went from being a happy girl, finally living a peaceful life with loving parents. Until yesterday. Everything changed so quickly. I didn't pack or plan anything. Not like I could. I was too overwhelmed by the fear. I wasn't rationally thinking. I didn't have time to think about what happened, It was already starting to get dark outside. This part of the capital didn't look too welcoming either.
I stopped in front of a shabby looking building. It caught my eyes since it was the biggest one around here. [Inn & Bar]. A small sign hanging next the door said. This will do.
The door creaked as I opened it.
"HAhaHAha-hick, Hahaha" The sound of drunk laughter and the pungent smell of alcohol were easily noticeable. I went to the counter, trying my best to look older, Im still 16 years old.
"Hello, can I have your cheapest room for the night?"
The man looked me up and down. He smirked. 'Is he laughing at me??' I glared at him.t
"Sure, but miss do you even have any money?" The man's eyes looked more sinister. I took off the flower pin I had on my hair. I didn't have many precious things since I wasn't the richest girl growing up. I only had the hairpin and my necklace that had any value. The second was a gift that my parents worked their ass off to gift me on my birthday. It was the most precious thing I received.
I placed the hairpin on the counter. "Is this enough?" He looked at it and looked back at me. Lifted his hand pointing at my chest, my necklace. I should've hidden it. The silver with the amethyst gem in the middle attracted a lot of attention. It was beautiful. I'm not ready to hand it over since its value to me was worth more than the price. "if you don't have money, that necklace will do. You can keep your hairpin." This is probably worth more than a week in the best room in the inn.
'If it's a price I have to pay to survive tonight..' I put my hands behind my neck and sighed.
Suddenly, a man behind me placed gold on the table. "This one's on me" He said in a low pitch. The clerk had a visibly pissed expression when he handed the key. I turned to see the guy that had paid for my room. He was pretty. He had deep black hair and red eyes that resembled ruby's. He wore a long cloak with the hood put in halfway, it looked like he was trying to hide his identity. Speechless, he opened his mouth.
"A thank you would be nice"
I snapped out, I wondered if I should trust him. He seemed a bit arrogant but he just did a huge favour.
"Thank you, you didn't have to do that"
He laughed, "You looked so pitiful when he asked you for the necklace I had to help you. Anyways I did it because I wanted to talk to you as well." As he said that he motioned to the tables.
I hesitated, his first remark pissed me off but I felt bad since he paid for my hotel room. 'If it's just to talk I guess it will be okay.' I nodded and sat on the chair. I looked around, there were no women here. At that point I started to feel uncomfortable. The man looked at me. "What's your name?"
Should I give him a fake name? To be honest it wouldn't change a thing if it was a real or a fake name. "Lyna".
"Cute name…" He paused "Do you know anything about magic?"
It was a strange question, I had never experienced it first hand. I just read it in Beautiful Lady. Magic was described simply, Mages could use magic. Regular people couldn't. To be king you needed to have Mana. In this world it was mostly considered spiritual energy. The mages were close to god and prophecies. I nodded.
Looking at his piercing red eyes I tried to minimize my answers.
"No, not a lot. I lived all my life in the country side. There are no mages there." My voice sounded almost robotic.
I took his silence to ask
"Who are you?" He looked shocked from my straightforwardness.
"I'm someone that will help you a lot , you'll see." He smiled. "You look lost lyna, where are your parents?"
Oh, right. I've been thinking nonstop about what happened that just now I realize that since our interaction I stopped
