Kaleb hadn't given much thought to his body as the day wore on. He looked down, and his gaze lingered on his hands, but instead of the pain, there was only a steady almost intoxicating rush of energy. He balled his hands into a fist and relaxed them repeatedly as if testing the reality of his strength. His muscles responded faster almost before he could complete his thoughts, like an engine tuned to the perfect pitch, ready to roar at his command.
'...Is this…. Real?'
He recalled the spar with Cassie, the memory sharpened, vivid with the strain of that moment. Somehow, within the time it took for him to awaken and now, his body seemed to be recovering with a speed far beyond the capabilities of a normal human. It dawned on him with a sudden clarity that something fundamental within him was changing, and fast.
Maybe this could even explain the changes in his appearance.
