Chereads / The Rise of Technomancy / Chapter 2 - Exploring the Gate.

Chapter 2 - Exploring the Gate.

I wake up early in the morning to find a bunch of what seem to be zombies without heads. I should send recon drones to scout the areas around the mountain for me. I summon one hundred and command them to go out to four hundred miles and look for anything that can be used, like other mountains or ruins, that I could use as a base for my army. I look at the corpses, wondering where the hell the dead bodies came from; I didn't see any towns or graveyards while coming here. It's fascinating; it's like they came out of thin air. Maybe this world's rules differ from mine; I must look into this. As the info from my other self is incomplete as it belongs to him, I only know very tiny bits.

I summon a table and order one of my knight drones to bring a corpse over here for me to cut open. I want to see if anything is different from what I know from my world. Knowledge is power, and I plan to have all the power in this world. I need to start somewhere, and what better place than the body? I cut open the chest and found a blue gem where the heart should be. I feel a pure source of mana from it, like what I use to power my drones, as they can run for ten years once activated on their power source. This could make it easier to find a replacement power source in this world without making it. I will have to run some tests, but I am 90% sure it will work as is.

I finished the autopsy and found that the muscles were more robust and had the blue gem. So it looks like they're not that much different, but the real question is, were they human before they died, or were they made already dead? I did a couple more to see if they changed from each other, and other than some having more prominent blue gems, nothing else was different. At that time, a recon drone said they had found something.

I summon a squad of mechanized destroyers, four-legged, two-story tall drones with twin 155 mm canons that fire runic-enhanced shells. Four 20 mm canons mounted on their head are my "tanks" of the older times of my world. I summon hover trucks for my drone knights. As they mount the trucks, we follow the scout back to where we get to a giant gate with what seems to be a portal. I send in three drones as I take up a defensive posture around the gate, with two destroyers on each side and ten drone knights between them.

The scout drones returned after three minutes and showed me what they had recorded. It's a giant graveyard. With a city and castle in the middle, this should be interesting. I think I discovered where all the zombies are coming from; maybe this connects to a different world, as that is highly possible. Wormholes were a thing in my world, so perhaps it is something like that but more of a fixed wormhole or teleportation. Well, it looks safe to go into, as my drones felt no unstable pressures or toxic gases; I summon twice the amount of firepower I have now. And armed my Knights with rifles that fire runic-enhanced rounds for half of them; the other half got magic pulse rifles. I summon my battle armor and a pulse rifle, as I am more of a summoner than an attack mage.

I left the original destroyers outside to keep guard and ordered the scout drones to fly three miles out, watch for anything I should know about, and send the information back to the scout at the gate to run to me. The marching order is five knights as an advance party, followed by a destroyer, then ten knights, and two destroyers, then me, repeating until five knights bring up the rear. We slowly enter the gate; I cross over into this foreign land. It's like a horror film graveyard, the fog rolling on the ground. What's shocking is that the city has lights on, and I can hear music and cheering coming from it.

This tells me that some intelligent beings live here, not the average zombie. This could be fun. Let's see what kind of fight they can put up with my forces. I don't think I outnumber them, but I don't think they can hurt me or my forces, as the metal used to make them is extremely hard and light. It's about five miles from the city; they will see me in no time. Your fate is sealed if you can't see ten two-story walking objects. We slowly make our way before my knights begin to hear movement up ahead. It's a horde of Zombies; I let the fifteen knights and destroyer take care of it first. I want to see how many they can handle before needing help.

They handle the six hundred or so by themselves; this shows me that the zombies aren't brilliant, which tells me that something else lives in the city. And the zombies are just cannon fodder; I rearm the ones that are just done fighting, and we push forward. I am about a mile away from the city when I see a horde of at least 10,000 zombies around the city guarding it. I look at the wall and see men in armor with glowing red eyes. A woman stands there with armor on, looking at me and talking to a maid beside her.

I walk halfway between my forces and the zombies, summoning a table and some chairs. I wish to know what kind of being can live here. I wait to see if the lead will grace me with a meeting; after five minutes, the woman is on the wall. She jumps into the air and grows bat wings; she flies over to the table and lands about fifteen feet away. I removed my helm and showed my face to her. She was surprised to see me here, or maybe my kind. Whichever now it was, I would be lying if I said she wasn't gorgeous.

"My name is Adam LeBlue; I have taken up a foothold outside the gate. I wanted to know what was on the other side of the gate, as zombies have been giving me problems around my sanctum. I wanted to find out where they were coming from. Are you the ruler of this land? And can get them to stop coming to my side of the gate."

"My name is Samantha Bloodborne; I am the Queen of the vampires. I do not rule this Land, as stronger undead control the zombies; I am just a servant of hers, as are all the undead here. I can not control the zombies as they aren't my kind; you must travel deeper to meet the Lich Queen, as she controls this land. But I am worried she will think you are invading her land with your army if she sees your knights and metal giants."

"This isn't my army; the army I control is far vaster than this handful of guards I am using for this brisk walk. It would be much appreciated if you could point me toward the Lich Queen. As I must take care of this promptly, I was wondering if I could court you later today. When I return from my talks with the Lich Queen, I wish to get to know a woman like you, Samantha."

"I can not allow you to meet the Lich queen as she doesn't like to be disturbed; as for courting me, that can not happen as I have to kill you. But I am flattered that you find me attractive to wish to court me; once I kill you, I will bring you back to be one of my boy toys. As you are good-looking and have much courage to court me, I find that Attractive."

"So it's war, then. If I lose, you take me. So, if I win, I shall take you. Do you agree to these terms? I don't want to bring death to this realm if I don't gain anything from it. I wish to make this fight worth something, my dear Samantha."

She laughs and smiles at me, her face seductive. Her eyes are eerie but beautiful; I like how she looks. I shall make her part of my harem, as I wish to take her body as mine. She stands up and agrees to the terms of the war.

"I agree to your terms. Let the better general win, my dear Adam."

She turns away and flies back to the city walls as I make the table and chairs go away; I turn and walk over to my drone knights and pick up a half-moon frontline. With everything spaced out with four feet in between, I summon sentry drones behind them. And supply drones behind them, With 20 drone knights as a reserve. This should be all I need; I command the destroyers to use their airburst rounds before the H.E. rounds, as I want to thin out the numbers as quickly as possible. Getting overrun with zombies would be so cliche. They have 500 rounds of airburst and 500 rounds of H.E. for their 155 mm canons and 4,000 rounds of 20 mm airburst for each destroyer. This should take out most zombies as my drone knights finish the rest.

I take my place between the sentry drones and the supply drones, as they have to be ordered directly from each drone that needs to be resupplied and what they need. I am a leader, not a fighter, so it's better to take command than to stand on the front line. After all, if I fall, my army falls. That the only biggest weakness I have, my army is unstoppable. But me, not so much; they say one man can change the battle. It's not because he is vital; it's who he kills. If you kill the leader of an army, the odds are they will retreat or surrender. Very few armies fight once their king dies.

I command the destroyers to begin bombardment; the twenty 155 mm canons fire. It makes a deafening sound as they kick up dirt from the firing of them; the vampires watch in amazement as a 155 mm airburst rips into the zombies, killing 15 to 20 with each explosion. Samantha orders the zombies to attack. She becomes worried now as she didn't think this would be much of a fight now she was proven wrong.

The battle for my new city begins as I may as well claim this city as mine if I have to fight here. The zombies rush as they are still 600 meters away; I tell the destroyers to open up with everything they have. And get the drone knight to be on standby until they hit 300 meters and to have them open up with their fire.

By the time the zombies reach the 300-meter mark, only 2,500. Where left, I ordered the destroyers to fall back and resupply as the 80 drone knights began to open fire. Zombies run slower than humans, and by the time they reached 150 meters, I ordered the drone knights to fall back to the sentry line and resupply. Only 1,600 zombies are left, and still, the vampires didn't make their move. That hubris will cost you as you should have flanked me, Samantha. But you let me focus on the zombies, maybe its honor or do you think of me as not a threat dear.

At 100 meters, the Sentry drones begin to open up with their .50 cal dual machine guns. By the time they stopped firing, the zombie horde was no more; I ordered all resupply to be finished in the next 3 minutes.

At that moment, I feel a gust of mana spreading out from the city: Samantha, my dear. Are you finally moving? It's time for me to take my Vampire bride. The final leg of this war is about to start.
