Author's note: I know some of you didn't enjoy the previous chapter, but it was written specifically to show you that there is another world within theirs, though it will not be further explored. Also, it gives insight into what's happening in their home.
Pov Evelyn,
I will always remember that feeling, and I hope I'll never be confronted with something like it again. I felt as though I had experienced several scenes of my own death, each one different from the last.
How can one live with something so terrifying in their shadow?
"Are you okay? You seem a little lost in thought."
"I was thinking about my thesis competition and how remarkable the winner was."
It is better not to worry about such trivial matters.
We are enjoying some very fine tea at this moment in a Muggle café.
"This tea is delicious! How did you manage to find a place that serves tea like this?"
"I've been here a few times. Unlike most sorcerers, I enjoy wandering around the Muggle world to discover new things and see the differences between us and them."
I turned my head and noticed a Muggle strolling by, seemingly unnoticed, despite his extravagant outfit.
"He could at least make an effort to be discreet in the Muggle world."
Marie was annoyed that the sorcerer thought he knew how to blend in.
"They have magic, and so they believe they're superior to Muggles. Because of this, they think about Muggles without realizing that Muggles are more dangerous than they were a few centuries ago."
Grindelwald understood this and wanted to get rid of them when, in fact, the simple solution was to continue researching magic and not settle for what we already have.
After that, we went for a walk in a park. It was nice to see the lush nature.
"It's sad that humans destroy nature."
"That's the price of their technological advancement. Unfortunately, you can't have everything, and knowing that they don't care about nature makes it even sadder. If they keep going, they'll have the magical races in opposition. The centaurs are already unhappy with how they're treated; if we destroy their habitat, it will lead to war against them."
I know that many sorcerers use their power or political influence to prevent a war with magical creatures, but the Muggles make no effort. If this continues, the war could begin in about ten years.
"I have a question, Marie. Why are you in love with me?"
"It's very simple—you're just too cute."
I'm not sure that's a real reason.
"And you're very kind. Despite your knowledge being far above others, you never brag; you help everyone, no matter their level of study."
I mostly do it to pass the time at school and to gain access to the restricted section in the library.
"And finally, you're my first true friend who isn't friends with me just for their own gain. You know, my parents are very wealthy, and we hold a high social status. So, the parents of children my age wanted their kids to get close to me to earn favor with my family. Over time, I stopped trusting anyone and started hiding my emotions to keep them from discovering my weaknesses. But with you, it's different; you never approached me for selfish reasons. When you found out my parents were socially powerful, you were happy for me because it meant I could access magical knowledge without worrying about money. You envy me, but you don't resent me—and that's why I love you with all my heart."
Knowing her, I know she doesn't tell me everything. But after the experience with the thesis competition, I've decided not to push further and to wait for her to share the whole truth with me in the future, if she chooses to.
"I must confess that at first, you seemed so cool, and then, after falling in love with me, you became clingy, loud, and took every opportunity to show your feelings for me."
He started to lower his head, accepting that I had rejected his feelings.
"HOWEVER, you're always by my side, and you always listen to me without tiring, even if I start changing the topic to something completely unrelated."
Due to my scattered thinking, it's hard for me to organize my ideas and avoid jumping from one subject to another without warning.
"And also, whenever I see you talking to someone else, I feel a darkness forming in my heart. I realized I was jealous and didn't want anyone else to get close enough to ask you out. I tried to ignore these feelings to avoid any mistakes, but in the end, you managed to win my heart. That's why I wanted to say these three words to you today: I love you."
As I finished speaking, Mary stole a kiss from my lips.
