The air inside the bunker was suffocating, the echoes of gunfire still ringing in the cramped hallways. George, Raven, Lucy, and Jackie were pressed against a wall, catching their breath after the vicious battle with the mutant hordes. Blood dripped from George's arm where one of the creatures had grazed him with its claws, but it wasn't deep. His mind raced as he checked his team, making sure they were all still alive. Just as he was about to speak, the sound of an approaching engine roared in the distance.
"They're here," Jackie muttered, peeking around the corner.
A convoy of vehicles came into view through the narrow bunker entrance. Marcy was driving the lead truck, her face hard with determination. Behind her were several armed men and women, guns at the ready. John McAllen, standing tall in the back of the pickup, was the first to jump out as they reached the bunker entrance. He waved his hand for everyone to hold position.
