The convoy continued to push eastward as they left Clifford behind, the road winding through a mix of open farmland and dense, shadowy forests. The unease from the discovery of the Demon King's effigy still hung heavy in the air, but George and the others knew there was no time to dwell on it. They had to keep moving, had to stay focused on the task at hand.
They followed Fletchers Level Road until it met with Amherst Highway, heading northbound. The convoy was moving steadily, but George couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. The shadows between the trees felt too thick, too still.
"We're getting close to Tye River Bridge," Raven said from her spot in the front passenger seat. She had the map spread across her lap, her finger tracing their route. "If we cross the river, we'll be back on track for the northeastern route."
