Weapon selection at the Cradle Academy was a very special event.
You might wonder how choosing a weapon could be so special, but this event truly was unique. Here, you might select the weapon you would use for life.
20 years ago when the two towers first appeared in the middle of a city, the world was thrown into a state of panic due to the damage caused by them appearing.
The principal after conquering both towers alone received not only its full ownership but an armory as well. This led to this Academy being established with the principal declaring that special weapons were needed for heroes of the future to succeed. Consequently, a variety of unique weapons were displayed in the Armory.
The weapons ranged from the highest S grade to at least D grade.
Even a D grade from this armory should not be underestimated. They were made with cutting-edge magical engineering, powerful enough for even a commoner to cut through rock.
However, you couldn't just choose what you wanted. Here, the weapons 'selected' their 'owners.'
"Let's begin the weapon selection now."
Surprisingly, the Cradle Academy gave the chosen weapon to the students for free.
"And as you all know, if you are expelled, you must return the weapon. Even if you don't graduate."
Evelyn spoke of weapons, but this place held more than just weapons.
There were many other items such as hammers that could be used for smithing or alchemy sets used to create potions.
However, people chosen by such items were few and far between. Although it was rare there was no need to worry about not having a weapon.
After all, the Cradle Academy provided D-grade weapons for such students, so it wasn't a big deal.
Upon arriving at the Armory, I saw all sorts of weapons planted in the ground, leaning against the walls, or floating in the air.
'Fascinating.'
It was amazing to see things I had only seen in games before.
"I will be the owner of the Khryselakatos that was said to have been used by Artemis!"
"Is this where the legendary Shadow Sword Raven and Crow of the Shadowlurker are? The quality of the mana here is on another level."
"Everyone is so ambitious. There's a reason why the seniors weren't chosen by these weapons."
Students excitedly searched through the Armory.
"I wonder what Rachel Bastion will get?"
"Me too, she was the one who was considered the best prospect before the first seat appeared so it has to be something amazing right?"
I heard countless voices.
Regardless, the weapon Kim Seo-hyun would choose was predetermined.
The Sword of Selection, Caliburn.
I looked around. Except for Rachel and a few others, most would end up with average A-grade weapons.
S-grade weapons were so picky that they had only allowed themselves to one person among all those who had entered the Cradle Academy.
Rachel and Selene, a vampire girl who was the last of her race, were exceptions.
'There might be one more.'
She didn't lag behind them in talent, but she was unaware of her own talent.
"My goodness! The Nova Chains chose an owner? Not me, but that nobody?"
"Who is that nobody? Weapons judge based on talent, don't they?"
"Wait a minute! Isn't that the Yggdrasil's Embrace? The bow made from the wood of the world tree itself!"
"Is that the Bloodmoon Catalyst that was used by the progenitor of vampires?"
"…That was here at Cradle Academy?"
Screams erupted everywhere. Selene took the Bloodmoon Catalyst, Alia took Yggdrasil's Embrace, and a random girl with flowing black hair took the Nova chains. Even without looking, it was obvious to me who it was.
"Oh, it's here again."
Muttering something odd.
Rachel's eyes sparkled as the golden blade flew toward her. She held it as though she was already familiar with it.
The Sword of Selection, Caliburn
"So, Rachel got that golden sword? What weapon is that?"
"It looks beautiful, could it be an S-Rank weapon as well?"
One by one, everyone began finding their weapons.
Suddenly, a powerful ripple filled my perception. I turned and saw a sword with a silver blade and golden engravings its guard was shaped like a pair of wings creating a different kind of ripple, landing in my hand.
"…Huh?"
I uttered in surprise.
Could this be the selection?
But I couldn't just ignore a weapon that had come into my hand without even appraising it.
'View(-).'

My mouth dropped, the grade was simply too high to refuse.
Fulminaria emitted waves of golden aura, as though announcing its presence.
"What's that? It looks like an extraordinary sword at first glance?"
"Is that really what a top student is like? It seems to be at least S-grade."
The students talked among themselves.
Evelyn inwardly agreed with the last comment.
The sword appeared unusual at first glance.
It emitted a larger presence than the both Nova chains and the Bloodmoon catalyst just moments before.
Yet, Evelyn had never heard of such a sword.
She had researched various kinds of weapons even before entering the academy as a teacher.
'I thought I knew all the weapons up to B-grade, let alone S-grade.'
Evelyn carefully observed Noah's expression. She remembered how calmly he had taken the valedictorian oath.
But now, Noah's eyes openly displayed surprise and joy.
Did he know about this sword?
'This is....'
Noah examined the sword.
Its blade was silver and shimmered with a soft luminescent flame.
Golden runes ran down the middle of the blade.
Its hilt was adorned with intricate carvings of flames and sparks, and its guard was shaped like a pair of wings.
Fuminaria
'It's the same sword that Reinhardt used.'
He hadn't expected to find this sword here.
'…No, it was stuck here, so I couldn't find it in the game.'
I probably obtained it due to the Luminous Flame but that would be impossible in the game without the new update.
It was a weapon obtainable only by custom characters, not playable characters.
I felt a strange discomfort but quickly dismissed it.
Above all, I was pleased it was a sword.
I smiled with satisfaction picking up the Fulminaria Sword, feeling a strange concentration of gazes.
'Should I imprint it as mine?'
High-grade weapons were very impressive in their own right. However, to use these weapons properly, one had to go through the process of owner imprinting.
I stood the sword blade up and touched my finger to the blade.
Drip.
"Eek."
A student next to me made a weird noise. I frowned for a moment and smeared the blood flowing from his finger onto the blade.
Then.
