Chapter 18 - THE MARK OF LEADERSHIP

New animal sounds echoed through the air, insinuating a different environment altogether. The place was still in the same world as Kit Mi Kai, but the timeline seemed more ancient, almost like a Stone Age. A caveman stood at the mouth of a cave, chipping away at its rough walls with a primitive tool, trying to engrave animals and other majestic sights he'd witnessed. The caveman, named Aruka, was focused, every strike of his tool filled with purpose.

"Uga uga ga uga!" another caveman grunted, walking up behind him. It was Bieru, his fellow tribesman, informing him that the leader had summoned them for the hunt.

Aruka turned, wiping sweat from his brow, and gave a nod. The two stepped out of the shaded cave into the bright, unforgiving sunlight. They squinted, using their hands to shield their eyes from the blinding light as they made their way to where their leader, Akaka, waited. He stood surrounded by the other twenty cavemen, all of them eager and ready.

"Augaga!" Aruka and Bieru announced their arrival, kneeling in respect. Akaka, the leader of the tribe, bore the sacred triangle mark on his palm—a symbol of his leadership. The other cavemen carried the circle mark, a mystical bond that made them incapable of disobeying Akaka's commands. It was the tribe's way of maintaining order, ensuring there would be no conflict or uprising for the mantle of power.

"Ark aruk uga uga," Akaka began, his deep voice commanding their attention. He explained the strategy for the day's hunt. Akaka would take Aruka and Bieru with him to take down the mammoth. The others would serve as a distraction, scaring the beast toward the three of them. "URA!" they all roared in agreement, their voices unified, even if deep down they feared the enormous creature they were about to face.

After the leader's speech, those cavemen who had wives stood in a line, waiting for their mates. The women approached, curvaceous and thick, holding bowls filled with blood. They dipped their fingers into the bowls and smeared the blood across their men's faces, from forehead to chin, a ritual blessing for good luck. The men groaned with satisfaction, hugging their women tightly, their hands grabbing at their thick asses as they said their goodbyes.

With the blessings received, the hunt began.

The plan went off perfectly. The cavemen chased the baby mammoth toward Akaka, Aruka, and Bieru. The three of them were far stronger than the rest of the tribe, having unlocked a hereditary skill called Hunger—a power that allowed them to grow stronger with every creature they consumed. As the baby mammoth thundered toward them, Aruka and Bieru barely had to lift a finger. Akaka leapt high into the air, his muscles coiled like springs, and pierced the mammoth's skull with a single blow from his spear. The creature collapsed instantly, its massive body hitting the ground with a loud thud.

"Bu aruru ruri, ruri ruri ruri!" The cavemen erupted into a wild celebration, chanting and dancing around the fallen beast. Aruka and Bieru looked at each other, their grins wide. They hadn't even needed to lift a hand—that's how strong Akaka was.

But the celebration was short-lived.

Suddenly, a roar tore through the air, louder and more terrifying than anything they had ever heard. "FFFFFRRRRRRR!" The sound made the ground tremble. They turned to see a much larger mammoth, its tusks glinting in the sun, and its eyes glowing red with fury. It was the baby's mother, and it had entered a state of rage. Every muscle in its body swelled, its size doubling as it charged toward the cavemen. Rage increased its stats by 100%, making it a nearly unstoppable force.

"RAAAAAAK!" Akaka barked an order for the others to retreat, knowing they would be no match for the enraged mother. "RU ATA RU APEPE!" he added, telling them to take the baby mammoth's carcass back to the village as they escaped. The cavemen raised their hands, sharing half of their strength with Akaka, who remained behind to confront the beast with Aruka and Bieru.

Akaka was fearless. He charged toward the mammoth mother, his muscles bulging as he prepared for battle. Without his spear, which was still lodged in the baby's skull, Akaka fought barehanded. He jumped again, aiming for the mammoth's head, but this time, as their bodies collided, a shockwave blasted through the air, sending Aruka and Bieru flying. The mammoth's thickened, glowing red skin made it nearly impervious to attacks.

The mammoth struck Akaka with its trunk, sending him crashing into the earth. Blood oozed from his wounds as the giant creature reared up on its hind legs, preparing to crush him. Akaka knew the end was near. He glanced toward Aruka and Bieru, both of whom were still trying to recover from the earlier impact.

"Go... back... to the caves," Akaka commanded with his dying breath. "Protect our people... it's up to you now..." The triangle on his palm began to dim as his life force ebbed away. Aruka and Bieru felt an intense pull in their hands, forcing them to leave despite their desire to stay and fight. They couldn't disobey the final command of their leader.

With a mighty "BOOOM," the mammoth's foot came down on Akaka, ending his life.

The cavemen carried the baby mammoth's body back to the village, but the sight of the now-dark triangle on their palms sent waves of sorrow through the tribe. Akaka was dead. His mate let out a mournful wail, loud enough to shake the mountains. She grabbed a spear and drove it through her chest, ending her life out of despair.

Back in the caves, Aruka and Bieru stood solemnly, their faces hardened by grief. They felt lost without their leader. But then, a strange glow emanated from their palms once more. A new leader had been chosen, but the mark didn't appear among the living cavemen. A light shone from the depths of the cave.

The two warriors, determined to find their new leader, grabbed their heavy wooden clubs and cautiously approached the source of the light. Inside the cave, they found a glowing portal, swirling with energy. It was something they had never seen before, but they sensed their new leader was on the other side. With no other choice, they stepped through.

Back in Kit Mi Kai's timeline, the triangle mark suddenly appeared on Haruto's hand.

"What the hell is this?" Haruto wondered aloud, staring at the strange glowing symbol.

A notification popped up in front of him, breaking the silence. "Hey, Haruto! Hope you're leveling up fast. It's me, Liana, the god who brought you to this world. So, I've linked you up with two cavemen—think of them as your new bodyguards. They'll do anything you command, and they have a skill called Hunger, kinda like your glutton skill. Oh, and check the back of your hand. That mark will let you store anything, even the cavemen, so you don't have to walk around with them all the time.this is to increase the chances of you saving us Now go save us, hero! Oh, and Nora sends her kisses she is my friend."

Haruto groaned. "Great... just what I needed...
