Sharp pains swept through Mirai's body. He writhed around covered in bandages. His body was burning up and his sweat was blood. The wounds he sustained were too great for him to handle. A little boy sat by him with fear in his eyes that this innocent man would die. "You'll be alright mister" quivered the child. He was witnessing death in real time and it was not a pleasant experience.
"Leave him alone, Sonyeon" called Hyung at the boy. He went over and patted the boy on the head and said "He'll get through it". The boy looked at Mirai and walked away. Sonyeon went to a corner in the room and started drawing with his crayons on a piece of paper. Hyung looked at him with a smile on his face and went back to cooking.
"Hey" called Mirai weakly. He could barely speak after what the avian monsters had did to him. His throat was nearly ripped out. His skin was bruised to an extent that even the smallest movement could cause severe bleeding. His right arm was broken and his head bled like an open faucet. "What do you want?" "Water....Please" pleaded Mirai from his sick mat.
Hyung walked over with a half empty bottle of water and put it in Mirai's mouth. Drinking it felt like he was been burned alive. Hyung took it away from his mouth and sat next to him. "Now that you're nearly dead, I guess I could bother you with some chit-chat" he said as he looked at Mirai. Mirai grimaced in disgust "What makes you think I'd want to hear another man ramble about himself?" Hyung smiled at him "I'm not as bad as you think. C'mon, we're both bored to death. What do you want to know about?"
Mirai stared into space. The voice in his head spoke to him. It commanded him.
"I want to know more...… More about him. ...Tell me more.....MORE!!!!"
The voice screeched in his head over and over. It echoed the instruction in his ears. Mirai felt like he was in a trance. His lips opened without his consent and his voice came out weakly
"Tell me about you"
The high-rise buildings overshadowed the night sky. Bright lights covered the sky. A single star could not be seen in the sky. The heavens were laid bare before the earth. It was midnight. Few cars could be seen driving past the roads that connected the city together. The author and the reader take a walk down the street under the bright street lights. They stop at a cake shop and look at the delicious pastries displayed for the public eye to consume. "Whoa" the reader exclaims. "These look delicious" he says smiling at the author. The author looks at the excited reader and says "Look back". The reader, surprised by the sudden shift in mood, looks back and sees a massive skyscraper whose tip touched the heavens. The reader was taken aback by the largeness of the building and exclaimed, completely blown away. "It's beautiful. Stupendous even" he said. "Not that dumbass. Look deeper" the author said, annoyed at the kind of readers he had. The reader finally catches a glimpse of what the author wants him to see.
"I do not stand for that!" howled a man wearing a business suit. The meeting was in full swing and extremely heated. Minister Marnowac sat at the north end of the long table watching the chaos unfold. Distinguished men fought themselves over their share of the national budget. Barks and howls flew from side to side. "Minister! I thought we agreed on an equal thirty percent slash for all of us! Now you're telling us you are taking sixty percent! I will not accept that tyranny" barked another man from the Minister's side. "The Minister deserves it! He wiped out an entire population and you say he doesn't need it?!" another riled. "Wasn't it with our help he did that?!!" the other shot back.
Accusations jumped around but Marnowac was unfazed. He stood and said "Men, I have spoken and that is it". His authority brought down his words like a hammer on the nail. The men could not say a word. "I believe we have nothing left to discuss. See you on a later date then". He walked out and as he closed the door, shudders were sent down the spine of the men there. "He's so scary" was their collective thought.
Marnowac walked through the gold plated hallway of his office high-rise. "Being minister really had some perks" he thought.
Marnowac had been the head of government of Louhia for the past century. He had personally seen through the growth of the country from its inception to its position as the world's government. The population of Louhia was the largest in the world with over four billion citizens. Its GDP was in its trillions and it was regarded as the head of the new world. Now, with the eradication of Back Louhia, his achievements were finally complete.
He entered his office and saw a man sitting, waiting for him. "Sorry for making you wait Ubica" he apologized in a business-like manner. The shrouded man called Ubica removed his hood to reveal his rough hair and sharp eyes. "No, no Sir. It's only been a minute". "I see you've helped yourself to a glass of the good stuff" gestured Marnowac at the glass of sparkling alcohol in front of Ubica. Sitting down, he looked at him. "How's the work going?" he asked. "It's going well" Ubica answered. "First things first, how are the numbers?"
"Well, we did manage to summon more monsters and we're about to bring Fenrir to the world but we have one problem" "What is it?" Ubica sighed and replied "If we do that, we'll unleash the system on this world" Marnowac looked at him dead in the eye and said with a straight face "And so?" Ubica opened his mouth in disbelief "Sir! That could bring the end of humanity as we know it!". "I've sacrificed countless things for this nation. I will not allow a little system to stop me. You must do as I say". Ubica sighed again and nodded yes to the minister. "What else did you do?" Marnowac asked. "We've located the Fire Devil. Our force is on the way" Ubica replied.
On hearing this, Marnowac smiled devilishly. His heart was elated. It was finally time to fulfill his goal."Good. Make sure you bring his head to me" he said, trying his best to hold back his joy. "Yes sir" Ubica answered and lifted up his head. "Alright, you're dismissed. Report to me in two weeks. Now go!" Marnowac ordered.
The man suddenly disappeared and Marnowac leaned back on his chair and looked at the lights in the room. He chuckled. He laughed. He laughed more.
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!"
His delirious shouts of excitement and laughter filled the room. Tears of joy streamed from his eyes. "YES!! I'LL STAND AT THE TOP!!!! THE TOP OF HUMANITY!!!!"
The reader was left standing aghast. The author slowly walks away saying "Fireworks upon fireworks"
Hyung lays back and looks up. Mirai stares at him in anticipation. He takes a deep breath and speaks "My name is Hyung Danmyeong and I am..."
